The online is the grind. It has nothing else to offer. Its whats left of RDR2 when you remove the camp, random encounters and NPC greetings (sure was easy to strip the game of anything interesting huh...).

Either you are playing online because you get pleasure out of grinding the right to use the stuff you already played with in single player (with the endgame of ???) or you don't like the online so you skip the "gameplay" with gold bar purchases but then what the fuck are you doing, moron?

People are playing it because it is beta and maybe they are having fun. I am sure they will flesh things out when they iron out the initial kinks. GTAV was much the same way initially, and it blossomed into the behemoth it is today. Now I am not saying this will be the same level, but if they pour in the content as well, then it will be something for those who like this setting. I rarely play online in any game anymore, yet I have a blast with a group of friends with the randomness of other people. Some funny ass shit happens where we all crack up.

I am still working my way through the single player story, so this will be on a back-burner and sporadic plays when I just want to mess around with smarter than an NPC enemy/friend.

I didn't rush thru single player so online has been a treat, seeing all the areas, meeting the various characters and learning the motivations of each before the events of story mode was my plan all along. I've no complaints in regard to the economy there's so much free shit laying around, mainly consumables and special ammo too. I jusr focus on the essentials when buying anything for now.

Yep I think i'm done with the Online game until they come up with a pvp opt-out system. Tired of being ganked in this game, unless you're in a posse you're just going to get griefed. Not fun.

I logged in since the update to get my gold bars and stuff, and they just populated the game with all the random NPCs that are in single player. No longer does it have that slightly empty feel now, nice!

I'm burned out. Game needs more content and to at least let me filter what kind of PvP I queue for. I don't have it in me to grind for the final passive because none of the people I know want to do the final mission grind and grinding Saint Denis cops is very, very dull. I can probably do it if they just let us pick what kind of PvP we join and just PvP all the time. I love Hostile Takeover.

I just had a blast posseing up with friends, going fishing n’ hunting, and ending up in funny shenanigans with other players. By the time I realized, I already have enough money and gold to buy whatever I want. This game doesn’t feel like a grind at all when you and your friends just immersed and semi-roleplay into the context of the world.

Sorry for bumping, but the ultimate edition worth it for online gaming?

Also, will there be a reset when leaving beta?

Is there a way to join the battle royal mode? I always get stuck in death matches and I honestly can't aim for shit in RDR2 in general - so I get smoked.

Atleast with bows, tomohawks and knives I stand a chance but I seem to have to sit through tons of matches getting my ass kicked for the tiny chance I might get to play a round of make it count

Red Dead Online Beta Update

Play New Gun Rush Mode Now, Plus More to Come

5Z2z0Za.jpg

A big thank you to everyone who has taken part in the Red Dead Online Beta over the holidays, and especially to those who have taken the time to provide us with their feedback. Please keep it coming - Red Dead Online will stay in beta for a few more months yet as we have many more new gameplay features to add across the board as well as further changes to improve, stabilize and refine the overall experience.

Today’s update to the Red Dead Online Beta introduces Gun Rush, where you’ll put your survival instincts to the test, gathering weapons and ammunition while the play area shrinks in this new mode for up to 32 players. Available to play now in Free-for-all and Team variations, where the last one standing wins.

More updates are coming soon including new Races and Showdown Modes and new clothing and emotes, as well as some additional changes based on player feedback including:
  • Daily Challenges: Tackle new challenges each day covering every aspect of the game, from sharpshooting to evading the law.
  • Law and Bounty Upgrades: Some changes are coming to the way the Law and Bounty systems work in Red Dead Online to reduce the enticements for griefing. Soon, players will get a bounty for committing crimes and will be incentivized to pay them off within an allotted time. Wait too long and bounty hunters from each of the states will track the player forcing them to either pay up or escape.
  • Parley Changes: We’re making the Parley system easier to trigger so that you can avoid aggressive players more quickly. In addition, it will be easier to trigger Feuds, Posse Feuds and Leader Feuds to take on attacking players in structured competition.
  • Proximity-Based Player Blips: Player location blips will soon appear only over short distances, reducing the range at which you are visible to others, decreasing the likelihood of being targeted by another player across large areas. Down the line, we’re also looking to introduce the ability to identify players who grief and kill indiscriminately with a progressively darkening blip that becomes more visible and at a longer range, so everyone in a session can identify potentially dangerous opponents at a glance and from a safe distance.
More to Come
We are working on lots of new content that we will be releasing this year. Just a few of the updates in the works are:
  • All-new missions to build on your Story in A Land Of Opportunities – from previously established characters like Horley and Jessica LeClerk, and some new ones as well.
  • A range of Dynamic Events throughout the world
  • Lots of new competitive modes including new Showdown Modes and Races
  • Plus new weapons and clothing, and lots more that we’re not quite ready to announce just yet…
Xbox One players can also now access the Red Chestnut Arabian Horse, Alligator Skin Ranch Cutter Saddle and the High Roller Double-Action Revolver in the Red Dead Online Beta.

i think the evans repeater was in rdr? It was good, i still liked the henry repeater better tho in that game. I wonder if R* will make it buffer or leave it up to preference.

Red Dead Online Beta Update Out Now

Today, the Red Dead Online Beta gets its first big batch of updates including new gameplay, weapons and clothing, additional balancing and a slew of community-requested improvements thanks to responses to our player feedback page. The update is live in-game now - see below for details.

uAy1M9U.png

Earn Gold Nuggets and XP for completing Daily Challenges, a new series of wide-ranging objectives covering everything from skinning animals to finding treasure, winning feuds and more. Pull up the Player Menu to see your 7 Daily Challenges that will rotate each day, each challenge earns Gold Nuggets and XP and completing all 7 earns you a bonus.

Starting next week, compete with rival teams and Posses in the new Free Roam Event Fool’s Gold, where players fight to wear a protective suit of Golden Armor. Take down the current wearer to earn the armor and points, then turn the tables and rack up kills against the opposition.

And looking ahead, new game modes will arrive in the Red Dead Online Beta each week. Put your highwayman skills to the test with Target Races as you race other players on horseback to take down targets with speed and accuracy. Proficiency with a bow and arrow will give you an edge, take advantage of weapon and horse stamina pickups where you can, use your limited bullets wisely to remove targets or attack your competition.

Take on friends and rivals in new Fishing Challenges. Opt in to a challenge to receive the appropriate equipment and bait, head to the water’s edge and start reeling in the big ones. For added ease, use Eagle Eye to pick a spot full of fish. Remember, you’re trying to catch the highest total weight of fish to win – which could be achieved by hooking several smaller fish or angling for one large catch - so keep everything you reel in.

Also coming soon: three new Showdown Modes where players and teams compete to capture and deliver bags, steal loot from each other and survive. Stay tuned for more details around Up in Smoke, Spoils of War and Plunder. With the addition of these new modes also comes the Featured Series blip - visit the Featured Series sign post or select the option from the Quick Join menu to play the latest modes.

The Rare Shotgun is a beautifully engraved, faded brass version of the powerful, double-barreled longarm and is available today. Coming soon, be sure to get your hands on the Evans Repeater - a high grade, high capacity rifle that is devastating at medium and long range. Both weapons will be available via the Wheeler, Rawson & Co. Catalogue and from local Gunsmiths.

Treat yourself to a range of new Outfits, Boots, Coats, Gloves, Hats, Vests and more. In addition to all the clothing that will be available for purchase at your leisure, keep an eye on the shops and the Catalogue for Limited Time items that will come and go each week.

Express yourself with a new set of emotes including new reactions, greets and taunts. Like all Emotes, you can tap once for the standard emote and double tap for a more exaggerated expression. You can find new Emotes in the Wheeler & Rawson Catalogue then add them to your Emote Wheel through the Emote Wheel Management menu.

Updated Player Radar and Visibility: We’ve reduced the visibility of players blips over longer distances, so now your location won’t display to other players unless you are nearby – minimizing the likelihood of being targeted across the map by more aggressive competitors. This includes limiting voice chat to near proximity rather than players from across the map. Overly aggressive players will be highlighted from the map with a progressively darkening dot. If your style of play becomes more hostile, your map position (including your Posse members) will become darker and visible from further away.

Easier Parley and Feuds: Turn quarrels with other players into timed mini-deathmatches with easier to trigger Feuds, which can be initiated against a rival and their Posse after one kill. Alternately, instigate a temporary truce quicker after one kill with similar updates to the Parley system.

Enhanced Law and Bounty System: If you stir up enough trouble to earn a high bounty, you’ll increase the chance that a cadre of NPC Bounty Hunters will be out to get you. The higher the bounty gets, the more persistent your pursuers will become… so watch out!

Please keep the feedback coming as these new features arrive each week. In addition to new content, stay tuned for new weekly bonuses such as this week’s care package to help you tackle Daily Challenges and your other ongoing adventures across the five states. Head into the Red Dead Online Beta any time before Tuesday March 5th to receive a complimentary delivery of goods at your Camp’s Lockbox or at the Post Office consisting of:
  • 2x Potent Snake Oil
  • 2x Potent Bitters
  • 2x Potent Miracle Tonic
  • 2x Horse Reviver
  • 2x Potent Horse Stimulant
  • 8x Poison Arrows
  • 10x Explosive Slug

Starting today, PlayStation 4 players will have early access to the Jawbone Knife, a unique melee weapon with a handle artfully carved from the remains of a slain animal’s jaw, as well as a range of new clothing options and three new emotes. In the coming weeks, PlayStation 4 players will get the Special Series that launches them directly into the latest early access mode starting with Open Target Races where you compete in an open space to take out the most targets on horseback.

Stay tuned each week for new content, bonuses, limited time clothing and more coming in and out of the Red Dead Online Beta and keep an eye out for more updates as we continue improving and growing the world of Red Dead Online.

I'm finding the campaign on the dull side for sure, not that far in only on the tail end of Chapter 2. Tech wise its pretty nice, just not as fun as the first one so far, not sure why.

Maybe give the MP a go in a few weeks, doesn't look that fun in the videos.

WOOOOOOOOO this is what we've been needing for some time. Honestly I think I'm most excited about the poker tables.

I spent an unhealthy amount of time in story mode boozing up and frequenting every poker table.

Poker In Red Dead Online Is Not Available Everywhere Due To Regional Laws

Red Dead Online’s latest update was filled with some fan requested features and items, like ponchos and new missions. But the activity that most fans were excited to try out was poker. Unfortunately, depending on where you live you might not be able to play poker in Red Dead Online.

This past week, Rockstar removed the beta tag off Red Dead Online and in the process launched a massive update which fixed numerous bugs, added new content and rebalanced certain abilities and weapons. Overall, the update was celebrated in the community as a positive step forward for the game. But some players jumping into the virtual Wild West, found themselves unable to play poker.

At first, some thought it might be a bug or maybe they didn’t go to the right place. But after contacting Rockstar support they found out the real reason they were being blocked from playing cards was due to regional laws and restrictions.

On the Red Dead Online subreddit, a fan shared the message they received from Rockstar support after asking about poker and their inability to access it. This is the message that the user received.

Thank you for contacting Rockstar Support.
We certainly understand your concern regarding not being able to play poker. We appreciate your interest in using this feature in the game.
We are sorry to let you know that the availability of Poker in Red Dead Online is dependent on regional laws and regulations and may not be available to all players. In short, poker won’t be available in countries where online gambling is restricted or illegal. We apologize if this had caused any inconvenience.
For any new updates, we recommend staying tuned to @RockstarGames on Twitter and Rockstargames.com/newswire.
Your understanding is much appreciated, and please do not hesitate to reach out in the future if you are having technical issues with any of our titles.
Best regards,
Diana A.
Rockstar Support
Another player was sent a similar message from Rockstar support, but with a link to a post on the official Rockstar support website which states:

“Certain features are not available at all times or for all players. This can occur for a number of reasons including regional restrictions, game design, or the incompatibility between features you are interacting with.”
All of this seems to confirm that the ability to play poker in Red Dead Online is directly tied to the country you live in and the laws of that country. This has, of course, angered some fans, who feel this ban on poker is unfair.

One player in Argentia responded on the RDO subreddit that in their country many online poker games exist, allowing players to use real money to gamble and that even the government has online lotteries, so it didn’t make sense why RDO poker was blocked.

Something interesting to remember is that Red Dead Online doesn’t allow players to use real money to buy cash, which is what players use in the poker matches. Instead, you can only buy gold in Red Dead Online and you can’t use gold to buy cash. This means that the cash players are using in Red Dead Online is never tied directly to purchased currency. However, that distinction doesn’t seem to be enough for some governments.

Of course, there is also the very real and likely possibility that Rockstar themselves opted to block poker in certain countries that have strict gambling laws, to avoid any potential issues in the future.

To get around these restrictions, some players are using VPNs to circumvent the region lock on poker. While some modders and data miners I spoke to said using a VPN would be safe, there is still a possibility that Rockstar would ban players for using VPNs or similar techniques to avoid a region lock. So, be careful.

I reached out to Rockstar for more information about this situation, players using VPNs and regional restrictions in their other games and I was sent this link to the support page that I mentioned earlier with no other details.

Players have long wanted gambling to be added into Grand Theft Auto Online, which could still happen. But this recent RDO update and poker situation might be a preview of what would happen if the casino in GTA Online opened one day. Many players might find themselves locked out of the place, unable to gamble due to laws in their country.

Hello guys, do you know countries from where it is impossible to play online poker on RDR2?

What kind of a thing is wild west without poker?!?

I'm legit shocked they are overhauling the slow controls, too bad it sounds like that the more responsive controls won't be applied to Single Player.

I'm not terribly surprised. They had to do something because this game isn't hooking people online like GTA did.

There's too many crazy antics and fun to be had in GTA outside of shooting whereas this one had to rest on its laurels so they are probably hearing the feedback and trying to making the game more interesting competitively. Emphasis on trying.

Of course, I have low expectations for what they will change. It will probably be listed as an optional "competitive control scheme" so they don't have to admit the original controls suck therefore lock on will still be there and game wont be rebalanced to account for players actually having to aim.

Also not liking how it sounds exclusive to multiplayer.

I guess there's no interest left for this game here but the patch came out today.

Apparently movement animations and shooting online have been sped up while the free aim aiming has been reworked for both online and single player. Meaning they kept the best stuff exclusive to multi for.. reasons.

Haven't tried it myself but my expectations are low because I see no mention of a reworked control scheme or animation canceling. These fucktards will never learn.

I thought I would love RDO but it was so limited for so long I'm not sure there's enough interest to go back

I've been playing it on and off all day.
Bounty Hunter is exactly what it sounds like
Trader is similar in structure to the Motorcycle Clubs/Bunkers in GTAO (supply or buy materials, wait for product to complete, sell) but it doesn't feel as much of a chore because it incorporates hunting seamlessly. It's almost like they learned from their mistakes in GTAO. *surprised Pikachu face*
Collector is a weird one, though. As far as I can tell it's just one giant collectathon. I guess those trading cards in GTAO were a warmup for it (which makes sense I guess).
However, I have gotten a handful of collector items from looting dead bodies so I guess that means there are alternative means to find them? Or maybe they're a different pool of items? Not sure.

In any case, I'm having a pretty good time with it, surprisingly. How long it'll last remains to be seen.

So they left the movement the same for single player? I was hoping they would change it. I quit playing because it felt like molasses.

Get fully dedicated servers R* and this would mitigate a lot of headaches. I would never play any of their online games on the PC due to the rampant client side hacks they push to the P2P hubs they set up.

Online would also run so much better. Company that large, raking in the cash, and the majority of the online connectivity is still P2P. I like RDO on the consoles, but man they handicap themselves and gamers due to this, especially in full lobbies.

RDO is such a bomb, it's insane. Really goes to show how hard they lucked out with GTAO, even though they did try their hardest to ruin that one as well in the beginning.

They are splitting this out like GTA:O as well right? I've actually enjoyed the online aspect since getting into it. Definitely more co-op than PvP once you get used to it. The next big update is December as well with outlaw pass 4. I'm hoping they really start to flesh out other activities. I actually don't mind the PvP/Co-op game modes but they don't come round quick enough. The suggestion box is terrible as you can only have like 300 words or something stupid.

Will be interesting to see how something like CP2077 online does compared to GTA:O and RDR:O, as well as Factions.
