What the fuck was Chapter 18 supposed to be? FFVII multiverse? I appreciated the flashes to the future events, but it almost felt like they made that in case they weren’t going to go forward with the other two games just to slap One Winged Angel into this one but then decided in the end to continue with the other two games.

You wanted a remake, they gave You something better, a new trilogy

This is like rebuild of evangelion, a direct continuation in a new tineline

The 3 whispers of fate in The end are sephiroth remnants from The movie, Who fight You to defend their grim future

In other words, if ff7 is The bad ending, This 1 is going to be The good 1

And for The People Who claim they cant kill aerith, they are right, SHE IS ALREDY DEAD

Yup, i love the approach here, it keeps things new and exciting. I think it's really cool. Yeah it's anime BS, but it's fun. FF has always been anime.

I thought it was quite an excellent game. But then again, I never played the original and therefore I don't have a reason to get into a nerd rage over changes that they made to the story.
Some people just are determined to hate something just because it's not what they wanted or expected rather than judge it on its own merits.

Game was fantastic all around as a massive fan of the OG. Plenty to be critical of, but excellent despite the flaws.

Everything was fine except the multi-dimension garbage. Still can't believe they went through with that on FF7 Remake.

On one hand the ending stuff was anime garbage, but on the other hand I have a little bit of faith they will do something good with it considering how well done the rest of the game was.

And I'll admit it's kind of cool to be able to say "I have absolutely no idea where they are going to go with the second game" instead of already basically knowing everything about it.

Yeah, it's a huge pile of garbage as far as what they did with the plot. Absolutely insufferable for me. The whole thing is a tragedy. Subversion of expectations my ass.

As a huge fan of the original, I never wanted a remake nor did I understand the near constant pleas for one. I am glad they gave us something different.

I guess people wanted a Disney style animated classic shot for shot remake with new pretty graphics.

I have doubts they can make it all work in the end but I’ll always have my classic game to go back to when I want.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.

That fight looked fantastic. It felt like Advent Children. Not the wizards. That felt like odd at first. Once the real final battle started I was in it to win it. It makes me excited thinking about what the final battle will look like in part 3. It’s odd that I’m looking forward to that more than part 2.

It's the best thing they could have done. If they'd just done a straight remake with no changes there'd STILL be people pissy about it. Now no one really knows whats coming up, and thats brilliant.
The realisation that Remake meant something else than what was expected was great. Bring on Part 2 and 3.

I don't know why so many fuckers wanted a verbatim remake. So boring. Remember how much people cried about Aerith's fate, and now they want her to die again. pshhh

No matter what people would still whine about it, so SE made the choice to go to different direction because if whiners gonna whine then you might as well at least make something interesting.

TLDR: it’s anime nonsense but all the major points of the storyline are opened up again so we don’t know what to expect going forward.

I didn’t care for the anime BS, but am looking forward to playing the next games with the big scenes having tension since we don’t know the outcome. I’ve played the old ff7 like 5 times, so I’m cool with this craziness.

The thing is, it's not a remake, but a sequel with time travel nonsense. Once you make peace with that, it's not so terrible. Well, I guess it can be a negative for those who didn't play the previous games. I'm actually looking forward to the sequel, as I want to see where they take the plot, but my goodness I hope Square-Enix never does anything like this again with a remake. I'm perfectly fine with remakes that alter or rearrange elements of the original, as is the case with Resident Evil remakes, but this really felt like a bait and switch.

I just finished playing Crisis Core for the first time and now my perception of the whole story has completely changed..

I have sooo many questions that I'm guessing will be addressed in part 2 from the post credits Remake tie-in

Gay porn is where it's at.
They already confirmed the story will largely remain the same as the original in later parts
People expecting huge plot twists are in for a disappointment

They unveiled it as a remake and it’s called FF7 Remake so I’d say it’s no surprise that some old fans are angry that they didn’t actually get a remake.

Should’ve just called it something else, like Rebirth, and there would be no problem. It’s not the same gameplay and not the same story, it’s a new game.

Horrible writing that's exactly what it was supposed to be.

You mean Padding: The Game?

It wasn’t enough to try and pad the game with the most useless errands ever, but also had to do shit writing and that stupid ending.

If you had more than 60IQ you knew they didn’t know if they were going to do the other games… at this point, honestly nobody knows.

What a clusterfuck.

Yup.
Despite some flaws I really enjoyed FF7R but chapter 18 is where the plot goes to shit and my excitement for the sequels diminished by a lot.

Isn’t jRPG writing perpetually stuck on the level of anime tropes pandering to high school kids, since only them have time to play games in Japan?

Well the game I think is mostly aimed at western players, since that's where it's most successful. But who knows. Let's see how mature they can get with FFXVI

I have no problem with changing the story. I have a problem with cryptic shonen emo manchild Nomura bullshit.

Yeah I guess we are approaching the point, as gaming community grows older, that typical anime stuff no longer give chills. FF7R is a game with really mediocre anime story compared even to the Stranger of Paradise. But it looks and plays hellishly good, especially on HARD difficulty.

The ending is an attempt to "Marvel Cinematic Universe" FF7. There is no money in remaking just one game. They wanted to redo FF7 but this time expand it across several media and spin-offs. SE has been trying to do that for FF7 for years and this was them putting it to reality.

I would say that attempt failed though. They have now backtracked in interviews, downplaying the new destiny thing. Which is funny since Part 1 ends with the implication that the journey ahead is now unknown. They really wanted to have their cake and eat it too.

Personally, I thought it was a great twist. Not brilliantly written or presented, but just the subversion itself.

It means the new series will keep us guessing and it means the original can still be recommended if you wish to experience the whole saga across all the media as it's not made redundant from a plot point of view.

The nostalgia I had playing through it was great too. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
