The difference being that Nintendo was dominant in prior gens to the 32-bit era. If history shows you anything, it's that the losing team never dictates how the industry moves and exits hardware when all else has failed. Fortunately, Xbox is backed by Microsoft, so it may never meet that sort of fate, but it will also never enjoy the sort of success that has only befallen Nintendo and PlayStation — the two undeniably biggest brands in gaming by many, many miles!

Nintendo was one switch away from being gone themselves. Had they launched a another traditional weak console it too would have failed badly.
Yes MS has deep pockets, and that's why things are drastically different than a Sega or any other company that failed.
Also you have to define failed. MS has supported it's OS as the gaming platform for PC gaming, it's largely succeeded in this regard, and it helps them sell the OS which doesn't show on the xbox books.
They are coming off a generation selling 50 million units. That's not what the leader sold obviously, but it's also not 10 million and shut it down. It was obviously big enough to greenlight this generation.

You also have to know that if MS didn't release PC versions of it's games, it's console sales in the last two generations would have been higher.
The xbox brand still has value, and they have a deep array of studios going forward for thier bread and butter (Selling OS and software for it) regardless of the console side.

It's pretty obvious that Xbox, the hardware, has failed.

Regarding Nintendo, yeah, they were always "one next device away from industry exit" according to those who tell themselves that. Yet, as usual, they recover because they know when to try something else and have a history of leadership. Xbox's problem is it's always chasing PlayStation — an established brand that it simply cannot match now. Because they're finally realizing that, Microsoft is putting their games on competing platforms. Will it work out? Potentially, but not without the hardware taking an even further hit. The Series consoles have been in decline since 2022. That is not expansion and a far cry from the glory days of the 360.

Halo/Gears/Forza on a Playstation console will melt a lot of brains.
will it tho? At some point Microsoft doesn’t see the point to these few xbox sycophants. The revenue they will see from releasing games like Halo and Gears… if anything will cause pressure from investors for Sony to release games on xbox. It will be viewed as free money.

That's fair enough, but by the same token it's completely disengenious to say nobody overreacted and it wasn't completely overblown but a very large group of people here.
Xbox fans especially tried to blow it out so they could later say X didn’t happen. The main part of rumours came true though. There was never going to be a magic switch that suddenly made all games become available on Switch/PS5, that is an impossible expectation. As for hardware, the rumour was always that it would continue but it would be run by 3rd parties, we still don’t have confirmation on this part, nor what that will look like, eg. if GamePass/streaming only what will happen to third party support.

At least Halo Infinity will finally have a chance of actually having an audience now that it seems it's finally a decent game.

What if they actually use the PS5 I/O and make near instant load screens for it?

Theres a video on YT, the way the game was built, it can not change even 20 years from now. Basically everything revolves around one sphere in engine and the further they are from that sphere the more loading is required so there is just no way you can fix that unless you remake the engine which would be a collosal task and theyll never do it.

Tmestampped but worth watching the whole video: T Three

I hate being that guy but... I said it.

Where is that poster that was laughing at everything I said back then... watch him just disappear from the forums when this turns out to be true.

This was obvious for anyone not wearing green-tinted glasses to see.

The nothing burger guy?

Maybe he went to get actual burgers?

Which can be very easily squashed by Sony with a simple statement, "Xbox has a much smaller userbase that it is no longer financially viable to release games on that platform. It's for this reason why they themselves are porting their games on PlayStation."

Funniest shit I have read in a while. You do understand, what the actual reason we are now seeing Xbox games on PS5 is right?

I doubt you do, cause if you did then you wouldn't have said what you just said.

The second Xbox games start selling on PS5 even more than they sell on Xbox, sony will just put their feet up and wait for Xbox to fully self-destruct and become nothing but a publisher. Why would Sony help MS help keep Xbox afloat when they can have the HD console space all to themselves?
