Now, I'd like to think that I'm not the only one like this. We're talking about gaming.
I think streaming is pointless and I just don't get the appeal. I prefer a well edited, cohesive video about a game I'm interested about.
I don't understand streaming. Why in god's name would someone watch someone play an online multiplayer match? I mean, sure, you wanna check out the game, I get that,
but wouldn't you rather watch a well edited video that shows the highlights and skips out the boring parts instead of watching some dude stream?
So streaming means there's no editing and you watch an unprepared match with all the boring parts and stuff? It makes no sense to me. Even if you wanna watch a gameplay video, isn't it better to
watch it on youtube? Just because it's classic means even with some light editing the video is ten times better then any stream trash?
I also feel like people streaming often do it for the money rather then a genuine interest in the hobby. As far as I understand, it's easier to make money on twitch then on youtube.
What do you think?

I can see why some like watching other people play and it's not really uncommon at all after all we started watching people play all different kinds of sports. Not really pointless just like some would rather watch girls or men on chaturbate live barely doing anything exciting rather than just watch the best parts on pornhub. It's all about the live thing.

I personally don't like it either, the live stuff, especially when I turn on the chat and see the cringe 5 year old comments on every channel. Spamming pepe and omegalul 900 times is the most retarded thing ever.

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of streaming.

People don't watch streamers to "check out a game."

Seems you have a misunderstanding. They do watch streamers to check out a game besides interacting with the streamer and other stuff. It would be a ridiculous claim to say that people who watch pro players or tournament streams do not care about the game lmao.

Wait, you think that's "checking out a game?"

Fucking Christ.

I think you're wrong. People watching let's say a stream of Battlefield 5, probably play BFV themselves. But yeah, they also watch it because of the streamer, I guess.
But the question is, why? Imo, you could express your personality better on youtube, with well edited videos, jokes etc. Doing it live seems silly to me.

Actually if either are done right, they can be a marvel to watch.

Personally, I prefer the latter. But some AGDQ sessions were a sight to behold. Not the streaming you probably had in mind, but there you go. As long as the streamer is a top tier player of the game, I can watch some.

You have to opt-in to streaming, is that how cancer works too? Good news.

For me streaming is mostly entertainment with a bit of info on the side. Youtube is just the opposite, mostly info that is inadvertently entertaining sometimes.

Both have their place, although I prefer edited playthrough reaction videos.
Can be fun to watch from time to time.

I watch streaming for a few reasons.

1. To watch a game I’m probably never going to play. This applies generally to Nintendo games. I like them but have such a huge backlog I will never play them so watching someone else allows me to experience the game.

2. I like to watch people with above average skill doing speed runs and multiplayer games.

3. Sometimes I like to see how good I am compared to other gamers at games like Dark Souls, Doom and Sekiro.

These days, I mostly watch youtube vids to find out about a game I might buy.

I watch streams for entertainment. I don't really bother with multi player games, and watch quite a bit of retro and my fave channel does obscure older games. It's the combination of the streamer, the game, and the mood in chat that make it good. The live element and interactivity makes a difference. I'm not there to watch a perfect playthrough or highlights. Just want to see things unfold naturally. Some of the streamers are probably much better just chatting than they would be trying to do a scripted vid, especially the more chill ones.

Streaming and YouTube vids serve different purposes. Watching streams is not only about the featured game, it's about interacting with the streamer and the others in chat. You can ask real-time questions about the game or just bullshit with everybody else in the room. You can play mini-games and win prizes and make new friends. Or you can just hang out. A good streamer is fun to watch; a bad streamer (one that doesn't interact with the chat, or one that has long silences (or worse yet, no mic) or has kids or family shit going on the the background gets annoying pretty damn quick. I'm with ya there.

Watching YouTube is simply about watching vids. There's no immediate interaction with others, you can't ask live questions about the game. It depends what you're looking for. I love watching ManyATrueNerd vids on YouTube. But like Twitch, there are good and bad channels. And also like Twitch, I hate watching "no commentary" game vids.

One thing we can agree on is that watching recorded livestream videos (VODs) on YouTube is pretty lame because you don't get a polished/edited video and you don't get the live entertainment of a regular stream either.

When I was a kid I liked to play games and I liked to watch people play games.

It's no different today.

When I was a kid I liked to watch pre-made videos and tv shows where video games were played and I liked to watch people playing a game live with all of the "boring parts" included.

It's no different today.

My answer to the poll would be whynotboth.gif.

Videos = Focused entertainment. Highlighted fun.

Streaming = Chilling and hanging out while watching a game that interests you. Relatable fun.

I vastly prefer videos too, but streaming has its place. I like watching a few streamers if I'm bored and just want to relax in bed.
