The Ascent |OT| As Above, So Below

The final 5 are in the same place. Go to the casino in center of high street to get the money to deliver then return to the casino for 5 missions total in casino.

They show up as yellow diamonds on map. You just have to talk to NPC that have that mark.

Thanks a lot. I don't think im that far in (level 19), but i do a lot of wandering around and feel ive missed a lot of side stuff because I only have like 3 or 4 side missions done.

Can someone help me understand the weapon system? If I upgrade the Mk. level at the vendor for each weapon class, what's different about the weapons I'm picking up on the ground? They all just stack in my inventory, and all have the same stats (I think?). I don't understand why they're even dropping if they're all the same level/attributes?

They're just duplicates for selling as far as I can tell. Yes, it's a bad system.

I log back on this afternoon to try again to play the final fight only to be placed back on the other side of the door/horde part before the final fight. WTF game?
Why didn't it save after the end of the cut scene before the final fight? Why?
Back to another hour of hall fights and door/hords before I can even get to the cut scene and THEN do the final fight.

I personally like it a lot, it's very simple and effective, you can just focus on upgrading your prefered weapons/playstyle without any limitations like RNG loot, you just keep playing the game in a linear fashion, progressing, and everything is open to you, instead of having to keep going back and forth and hopefully farming to get a particular gear.

If anything, I'd change it to something even simpler, like R&C system where the more you use the gun the more it leveles up it. And I feel that weapon wheel would've been a great addition as well, to change weapons on the fly instead of going into the menu and pausing the game to manually switch the weapons when needed. And maybe add weapon mods like extended mags, explosive rounds, electric/digital dmg, piercing bullets, burst/full auto fire mode etc. instead of separate weapon types.

But I agree there's a room for improvement to make the game even better than it already is. For starters, the side quests - I cannot understand why only one quest at a time can be shown on the map/radar, very often you're inside an area where you have to search for something for a side quest, but unless you select that quest as the active one you'll never know you're in that particular area already and you could've progress in a side mission while passing by.

Secondly, the side quests being locked behind the main quests/storyline is a bad idea. Now, it makes sense that a guy wants you to bring/pick up something from a certain area that is logically unavailable for you, like The Pinnacle or Stimtown, but not every single one of them god dammit... There should be small quests possible to pick up and finished right away, within the already available areas, to level up, gain cash, weapons, skills etc.

The UI and map have been talked to death already. While you get used to the UI after some time, it would be really nice to see how certain statistic affect the character, skills, augmentations etc., you never get to see what kind of stats the augmentations have, how they level up with atributes.

The map as I said before, needs to be 2D showing the current level only with stairs/elevators to other levels. I'd also like to see a custom marker, where you select a point on the map (like for searching the chests) and then you hit the Up potton amd it shows you how to get there.

As for the gameplay side, the button config isn't optimal IMO, Aug1 should've been on RB and Aug2 on LB, crouch would've been so much better on the right trigger, while Tactical gear on B button. Auto-reload would be nice too, instead of having to look up at the ammo count to know why you character suddenly stopped shooting... And auto-fire for every gun, I'm surprised pump-action shottys have it but single/burst weapons don't, why? It makes them kind of boring, exhausting to use in the longer term.

Overall, I feel the game just as Titanfall 1 was, is a fucking awesome base that can evolve into something even much better, it just needs more of the same really, more weapons, more levels, more quests, more enemies/bosses, with small improvements here and there, that's really it. So let's hope that unlike Titanfall 2, Neon Giant won't try to completely reinvent the wheel and ruin what the game has brought into the table. My biggest concern is they'll listen to all those garbage journos and remove everything that makes the game unique, only to ironically get lower review scores for the game losing its identity.

Sure, I don't mind the lack of RNG stats (although I think it might have been more satisfying), but I'm just bewildered by their decision to have the same gear drop over and over again and its only purpose is to sell later for money. They went with random drops, but all of the items have fixed stats. Maybe if they tied the upgrade system to picking up duplicate gear, but that's not even how it works. It just gets you money, and you don't even need money to upgrade gear.

Just a strange design decision from my perspective.

How many side missions are there supposed to be? I thought I read somebody said 28, but I looked on a guide and it said 24. I've done 24, and I'm confused where to go next.

19h58m. Finished game 😃
Missing several achievements. I did not die 100 times or use a sink after flushing the toilet. Missing several codecs.
That last mission I cleared out all the big guys then used the heath turret at the control panel while getting both healed and attacked by little guys. Went fast once I did that.
Im giving the game high marks even with all my Grousing.

This was my single biggest complaint with the game. It just looked like a bug when you could not go where the navigation line went. If not for the forums explaining what was going on I would have uninstalled the game as being unfinished and buggy and moved on to something else. The look and mood of the game is what got me to look into the game further and glad I did.
The pinacle and Stimtown at least had a giant mech or guards to give a hint that you could not go. It would have been better if they had a dialog popup saying You need to first obtain the Mcguffin before entering here.

There are 28 side missions and 12 main.
Alright, I crossed referenced my list with better guide and I have a couple casino couriers and 2 other missions. **Finished all main missions and side missions. I was curious if anything would happen if you go over a million credits and it doesn't do anything.

Bummed out about shader caching issue and the lack of DLSS and RT. I'm already through the game and probably won't touch it for another year or so after some mods for fast travel and such. Great game, though. In fact, one of the best indie games I've played.

I gotta say, this separate version and lagged patch schedule for the PC Game Pass version has really kind of soured my view on the service. Microsoft needs to get their shit together with this program.

DLSS is amazing on this game. Compared to Cyberpunk where I can noticeable tell a quality difference (not for the better), The Ascent retains its great image quality but I get another 30-40 FPS.

I'm enjoying the game for where it is right now. May put it down though and let them patch some QoL things and bug fixes. Currently, my character will never show his head gear outside of the character screen.

I'd rather they plan around the Microsoft certification process and release the patches simultaneously going forward, but I totally get they wanted to fix everything they could asap in the launch window period.

I'm assuming this is on the dev. The GP PC version had DLSS in the preload version, but it was grey-out. The GP PC game also has RT option that doesn't work. DX11 option that doesn't work. Another assumption I'll make is that the Xbox and GP PC versions are on the same branch because they both launched without difficulty options. This is the version they presented to MS for certification for launch. So GP PC didn't get the same version as Steam. It got a busted Xbox version.

Does using the helmet toggle(R-stick press) work in the armor section of the menu? Maybe if you swap it a bunch it will de-bug it.

Playing solo, and not enjoying the difficulty spikes. Ruining what would have otherwise been a damn fine game.

Each new level/section requires an almost complete rebuild of armour and load out. With no ability to save builds, this type of micromanagement sucks.

Ball-hair away from uninstalling as a result.

I like the system. Once you upgrade any guns' Mk, every iteration of that gun in the world is now that Mk. You could sell them all, then pick up a new one in combat and it will still have your upgrades.

Yes, they stack for selling. Sell all inventory duplicate items by hitting Y then confirming.

If I finish main story first, will I be able to roam around and still do side missions? Or do I have to finish side missions first?

I started to replay the game yesterday, and I won't lie, it's just as amazing as during the very first playthrough, it's actually even better since you already know well all the mechanics from the start, how the game is gonna progresses, which skills to evolve at the beginning instead of randomly wasting skillpoints into everything, to save components for later weapons, to not waste time on getting into the areas you don't have access to yet, and so on. And it's nice to see again how the city looked at the beginning, when the Ascent Group hasn't officially collapsed yet, with all the cops around the city, blocked streets, with different groups slowly but surely trying to take over the control on certain districts, some regions being totally foe-free that are later on filled with enemies etc.

But I have to say, knowing how to approach the game now, it does show clearly how punishing the game is when you don't follow the storyline/main quests and want to explore the world, even within the first unlocked regions the moment you go off the main route you'll run into lvl 18-25 enemies, while you're at just lvl 4-6... Surprisingly you can still kill a few them if you play it out right (especially with Hydraulic Slam), but a single bullet kills you immediately eventually. So you can either farm XP on those enemies as respawning doesn't cost you a thing, or just keep following the main route where everything seems to be scaling perfectly fine. Gonna see how the Megarachnid fight plays out knowing how to approach him, I bought Byxor pants in advance which give me pretty much the most fire resistance in the game when it comes to lower body armor.

So you can sold them for money.

It's extremely streamlined, which I actually like. Literally just sell all doubles. Keep 1 of everything. That's it.

Just started playing with one friend. Now another friend wants to play. Is it possible for the second friend to jump in without having to grind first? Does it scale the enemies and your abilities down if a lesser level player enters into the mix?

Love the game to bits but will have to shelve it for now till another patch comes, on both the Series X and Series S I seem to be running into the worst game breaking bug of all the time

The enemies vanish. I get five to ten minutes ingame and for some reason theres zero enemies, anywhere. Nothing.

I don't get the cyberdeck stuff. I still can't open ice1 doors, I get an access denied error. I know I picked up at least one module though

Think I heard that it doesn't from one of the kindafunny shows.

I think there is a good game in here based on the reviews and feedback, I will hold off for a bit.

Go to the cyberdeck menu and check what you are currently able to hack (there will be yes/no/ice1-2-3 next to doors, atm, chests, etc..
Sometimes it happens that a particular ice1 door does not open despite your cyberdeck having the required level but most of them will open up so keep trying on other doors and come back to the resistant ones when you've upgrades your deck further.
From what I've seen you can't purchase deck upgrades, you find them during the side/main missions.

Cyberdeck menu is on the first menu page. Check it out. You find upgrades in the world so try to get every chest on the maps or look up their locations online.

The moment you notice something's wrong just go back to the main menu and resume the game again. Until the patch arrives that's the quickest and only only solution for any bugs.

I'll just wait for the next patch me thinks, doing that every ten minutes for it to work maybe for five is pure tedium!

Love the game though. Heres hoping they expand on it, havent been this hooked on a game since Syndicate.

Newest interview with the dev (1st one since the game launched I believe?)

I especially like the part where they addressed the MC scores:

VG247: Let’s talk about the critical response. Ahead of launch, talking to some of the people who had access to code and talking to some of my colleagues, I personally expected the Metacritic score to be a little bit higher. Were you surprised at all? How was your reaction to that?

Arcade Berg: To some extent, because you know, we got a lot of nine out of tens, and five out of fives, which of course is fantastic. I definitely think some of the more negative ones want it to be a different game. They expect this to be a different game, something we tried to address earlier as well with our marketing, saying, “This is the game, this is what the game is not,” yet we did get some feedback saying like, well, “It does a poor job being this,” which is the thing we said we weren’t. So you know, that’s a bit of a shame.

I mean, overall, it’s super positive. But I do think that the mix you can see is because we did manage to make something that people care intensely about which I think drives that. Had we been a flat seven, you know, then you know exactly where you stand, right? But with this five out of five, ten out of ten, nine out of ten, it’s like we hit something, we struck a chord, and some people just pure love it. Twitter’s going crazy, YouTube and streamers are loving it. We’re getting emails – never gotten this many emails before – with people just saying, “Hey, I just want to reach out and say, this is my game of the year,” or “I’ve been waiting for a game like this, this is perfect,” “Me and my wife are playing it’s the best thing ever.” We see a lot of that. So it feels absolutely amazing that the audience, the gamers, are enthralled and that they are 100% on board.

VG247: What are some of the things that you think people unfairly criticized the game for not having?

Arcade Berg: I would say around RNG loot and endgame, and those sort of things we explicitly said that’s not the game.

This indicates they won't change the potential sequel to please the reviewers but stick to their approach instead.

This game gets better and better, currently playing through silo 86 the MenShen mission and I am blown away at how good this game looks and how intense the battles are, wave after wave of these creatures.

Using the EBR enforcer as main weapon , spiderbots and life transfer augmentations has taken me through the back half of the game.

While I have a XSX have preferred to play with the xbox controller on a RTX 3080 PC with everything maxed out.

Yeah, it's easily my GOTY. Not just saying that; it's by far my favorite game. I have it on Gamepass and actually went ahead and bought the game as well just to show support, and because I'll have it when it leaves Gamepass someday.

Just finished the campaign and all side missions. Really liked it, the game world was the real star along with the absolutely insane augments and arsenal you get later in the game. A lot of rough edges, though, and I hope that for the sequel the top crew swallow their pride and hire a good UX designer.

A solid 8/10, with moments of 10/10.

Anyone else want to see these guys with the Judge Dredd license?
