THE MUSIC DRAFT - DRAFTING THREAD

Status
Not open for further replies.

Absolutely pathetic part deux
Rules of the Music Draft

1. Everynight for 10 days straight at midnight eastern, a new round starts.

2. You get to pick an album once per day during these 10 days.

3. Once an album gets picked, no one else can pick that album. This includes picking something that has an alternate version of the said album (bonus Japanese tracks, alternate track listings or say you pick The Clash's self titled album, you technically get both the UK and the US versions of the album).

4. Once you pick an album by a certain band or artist, you can no longer pick anything else from that said band or artist. For example, you can't pick 2 Lou Reed albums. However, anyone else can pick other Lou Reed records that haven't been picked.

5. No Greatest Hits / Anthology Sets / Single Collections / B-Sides Collections / Live Greatest Hits however you can pick albums that are great in length (like some albums were meant to be on three CDs like Magnetic Fields' 69 Love Songs) and you can pick live albums that was supposed to be in cannon of their albums (like Mc5's Kick Out the Jams).

6. If you miss a day, then the next day you can pick 2 albums. You can do this up to the final round which means you could technically not pick anything until the 10th day and then on the 10th day, pick 10 albums.

7. When you pick your album, just write the band or artist's name and the album title. You can put album art and other ways to hype your pick in another post.

8. There is no draft order so it is first come first served at midnight eastern. If you pick an album that has already been picked, start a new post to pick another album. No editing is allowed when picking albums.

9. At the end of the draft, a new thread will be made that is the tournament. The way the tournament is to be played is yet to be determined but is leaning towards a double elimation bracket.

10. If you get banned for whatever reason (c'mon, just don't say something stupid on the Gaming side), your list to whatever point you got before getting banned will be your list.

11 If you aren't on the list below, you can still participate. We have a slot open to do a full scale bracket.

12. This thread will hold all rounds of the draft and I will update the OP as much as I can with everyone's list.

13. If you pick something that doesn't fit the rules, we will just be like, "Dude, you can't pick that" and you can pick something else.

Tips!

You can play this game either way, pick albums that you love or pick albums that you think GAF will want to vote for. Whatever way you chose, it is just meant to be fun and to stir up music discussion among people who love music. You should for sure pick an album that you feel is going to be high in demand first if you can (like say a Beatles album)over say some great krautrock record that might not be touched upon until the 8th round. Also, I suggest with going a wide variety of genres.

Wait, you said you can't edit your post. Why are you making a post about reserving a draft space?

It is just in case I run out of room posting everyone's picks like say there are 32 people playing then there is 320 lines of albums that needed to be posted. At midnight I will make my own pick in a new post.

Ulster, you didn't even get the album title right (wrong article)!

(I hope it's not hurting that I'm posting here.)

All solid picks so far.

Haha, whoopsy daisy. Oh well. If you accidentally say the album's name wrong, you are a-ok by the way.

Oh yes, discuss. You are allowed to do that. Everyone's picks are really great. Will make comments on them in a bit.

Yeah, I don't really know what my strategy is. So, I picked an album that I love that's also well-regarded.

I kinda feel like a chump to be honest. I'm the only loser to pick a Beatles album. Going with what I believe is a safe pick.

I'm gonna try and pick one of my favorite albums tomorrow.

There is nothing wrong with that. Abbey Road is a great record regardless. I really did think everyone was going to snag all the Beatles and Radiohead records. I am actually surprised no one has picked up Ok Computer or Kid A yet actually.

Honestly I was going to go for something else, but with Beatles, Clash, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Bruce Springsteen, I felt I had to post something well known if I was going to post something that isn't an easy listen.

Captain Beefheart is well-known?

Picks I like so far:

Velvet Underground - White Light / White Heat
The Beatles - Abbey Road

Everything else is good, I just only see these two picks as possible steals.

So who votes on the winner now?

About a million times more well known than what I was going to post. :lol

But mainly I'm just testing the waters. I don't plan on only posting obscure, harsh avant-garde music.

Metallica - the Black Album

I suck at music knowledge, but what the hell. I'm a sucker for drafting.

I was going to pick one but I thought they were going to go right away like My Bloody Valentine or Neutral Milk Hotel. Can't bat 1.000 I guess.

I was under the impression that all of GAF is able to vote once all "teams" are selected and Ulster makes the tournament thread.

@KaramaKramer - Great staple of great 90s albums. I actually had this on my other music draft's list that I did years ago and I got it during my 2nd round. My favorite track is When You Sleep.

@Nihilism - Sorry again to hype up that all the Beatles records were going to be taken. Here Comes the Sun is one of my favorite Beatles songs though but this isn't my favorite Beatles record. I think that might be Revolver.

@Karakind - If I was going to have a Clash record, this would be the one I would want. If this wasn't picked by the third round, I would have tried to snag it. My favorite track off it is the Card Cheat.

@vatstep - I wasn't too sure which Boss record was going to go first, Born to Run or Nebraska. Whenever I put this on, I listen to it about 6 times straight. My favorite track off it is Backstreets.

Absolutely pathetic part deux
@SquirrelKiller - that was actually my first round pick of the last time I played this. Easily my favorite Velvet Underground record. My favorite song to play on the jukebox is easily Sister Ray while most people like to play Marque Moon to get their 50 cents worth.

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.

It's really tough for me to pick a favorite off that record, but I absolutely love that one. One of my favorite Boss songs for sure.

In with obvious pick: The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

P.S. 'Twas an honor to have been used as an example in the proposal thread :p

wait- are we supposed to be playing this to win? Like, as a competition? Should I just be picking groups like Radiohead and Kanye to get the popular vote, or go with the vote of my heart?
