Baby steps isn't going to help. Most VR games make me dizzy (they make a lot of people dizzy). The only VR game i've been able to play for a prolonged period is GT7. Even that at times made my stomach churn (elevation dips) due to the disconnect between a players physical body.

I want VR to succeed as it provides experiences that are simply unmatched. You literally feel like you're a part of the gaming world. However, I'm not sure what they can do outside of full body movement on a stationary platform like this:


GT7 is one of the hardest to deal with. It’s best to start with ones where you just wave your arms. GT7 still makes me feel motion sick at times and I’ve been doing vr since day 1 of psvr1.

I think Apple will help a lot to make VR a non-niche product, people will be wearing VR headsets everywhere in some years.

From there games will be able to pull more decent numbers.
Yeah soon people will be wearing them like they look at their phones today. Society is looking great isn’t it.
 
I can't even do it, makes me physically set. Tried my friends Oculus a long time ago. Played for 15 minutes and have been dizzy for 6+ years ever since.

Whatever that Eve tech demo game was. :messenger_anxious:

My gaming sessions are two hours long. Too long for wearing a helmet. Especially in summer.

Publishers also expect everything to sell a billion fucking copies these days, but they’re their own worst enemies — they design games to keep you hooked/engaged/invested for dozens and hundreds of hours. Guess what? You’ve eaten up people’s time and they’re not gonna buy shit they don’t have time to play.

VR is absolutely incredible. I too was a 2D fanboy at one point, but after getting into VR properly, getting the VR legs, seeing all that is possible, it's really next level.
The game definitely have depth, even more depth because of all the degrees of freedom. In a video game you are limited to a few buttons and the direction inputs, in VR you can move however you want, attack however you want, cast spells however you want, etc.
Then you have simracing, flight sticks, all the sports games, various simulations.....it's so much more than a gaming system
As for ass creed, the game came in at $40, was pretty good but had some flaws, and released during a really busy holiday period with a ton of other stuff releasing around the same time for usually $20-30.
VR gamers are used to fairly low prices and smaller scope games.
At any rate, I think VR devs are some of the most passionate around, just look at freaking Vertigo 2. There's a bright future for VR we just need people to give it a real chance and stick with it until they get their VR legs and get over the hurdles.


I'll be so sad if VR fails to catch on and publishers all start pulling a Ubi like this suit says "we won't invest in vr anymore" fuck you ya prick ..you tried making ONE game! Just because it didn't reach your overinflated sales goals

Btw I've never even tried VR (still waiting for some more must haves) but I know based on what other people say that it's an amazing thing and should be the future of gaming.

You can tell when someone hasn't even tried it by what they say.

Quest is pretty popular you know? PSVR2 would be doing better with more support. GT7 is quite amazing.

As far as THIS game, I bought it so I did my part. It is kinda stupid to expect mindblowing numbers when you limit the type of release you do. If this had been made available on all fronts of VR, I bet the results would be different.

Exclusives are fine in a competition between healthy platforms.
They are a terrible idea in a close to death VR battle between I don't actually want Sony and I have no idea how Meta and we do it for the lols Valve.

Also make hybrid games for fucks sake. Extra investment for some extra work instead of full or close to usual game budget for an obviously limited market must ring the alarm bells in acounting.

The VR market is too small for platform exclusives, release everywhere. And as the poster above said, focus on VR modes for existing games. Surely it's much easier/faster/cheaper considering modders are pulling it off.
 
VR is awesome for simulation games like DCS, MSFS and racing games. The experience beats a the normal monitor / tv experience by a large margin. No comparison. I haven't used my VR set for much else but tried Half Life Alyx and that looked incredible. Haven't played far. Assassin's Creed 38 VR edition was always going to fail. But try telling Ubisoft that.

Wouldn't make the audience much bigger. Not in relation to the cost.
VR is still a niche product. Doesn't make sense to bring multimillion dollar projects exclusive for that. This just doesn't pay out. You just exclude to many people with VR.
Another way would be early 1990 prices for those games. But I don't think that a big chunk of the VR community is willing to pay $120-$140 for a game.

People have kept saying this since 2016. It's still here. Get with the program.
It's still here and won't go away, but it's nowhere near as popular as many expected or promised. We're far from the short-lived craze when even Samsung would bundle a VR shell with its smartphones.
The truth is VR is designed to be a tech for geeks or tech specialists with a specific use for it. Most people don't want to be enclosed within a piece of technology, they want to carry it around with them to be used whenever they want and most often while they're doing other things. It's all about low restraints and multi-tasking, something that is the opposite of common VR. Forget the wow effect, it's all about convenience : Segway had a very impressive tech but could not compete against scooters.

Good. Spend resources on actual platforms that the majority of customers will actually buy it.
VR should be an optional add-on rather than full pledged exclusive title. Resident Evil 4 Remake did that, they added VR support whilst not being an exclusive VR-title game.

Lol you don't get the point.. people want to play fucking AAA games, a lot of them not just once in a blue moon. VR games are too limited and only a handful of games are comparable to AAA experiences.

I just fired this up for the first time yesterday and it really is great. It baffles me that it's not on PCVR and PSVR2. I'm sure meta threw a moneyhat at them but VR really needs to be more multiplatform.

So it’s Meta Store exclusive?

Leave it to Ubisoft to consistently fumble everything they make. Nothing but incompetence.

How is VR supposed to "take off" if every company says "it needs to take off first" before them developing for it or citing low sales as an issue while limiting it to an arbitrary headset on an so far still niche market.
Dev: "Hey boss, the game we developed for that niche VR market, the one that we sold to an even smaller subset of the niche market, that game didn't sell like a triple A title. What do we do now!?"
Boss: "I knew it, it's just a gimmick and nobody cares for it anymore! We won't invest in it anymore!!"

The idiocracy speaks for itself.

And sim community is bigger than you think, you know, games that peoples actually DO play almost daily for years. Not the usual once and then to the garbage bin.

Invest more and you'll help it grow you stupid @#^%*! Why leave the work to the consumer?

Nobody cares about VR. VR games are too limited.
Because they focus too much on the motion control aspect.

I only care about the VR visuals. Just let me see around the world in VR, while i'm controlling the game with a regular pad like i would on a regular screen. That would be enough for me.

I mean, if it released for PCVR too I would've bought it day 1. I'm not gonna go out of my way to get a Quest 3 if I already have an Index.
