Star Trek TNG is a pretty great show, but like all great shows, it's got some stinkers.

I present "Genesis," an episode from Season 7. It's pretty hilarious.

Picard and Data return to the USS Enterprise to discover the rest of the crew have de-evolved into primitive forms of life

So this means:

Riker turns into a Cave Man

Troi turns into a Frog

Barkley turns into a Spider

Worf turns into Swamp Thing

A nurse turns into Planet of the Apes

And of course, my favorite, Spot (Data's cat) turns into... an iguana?

Wait, what? Seriously, who wrote this thing?

Also, as Swamp Thing, Worf murders a bunch of the crew but no one seems to care at the end.

What do you think is the dumbest episode of Star Trek TNG?

Last episode I saw was the one where everyone turned horny. I don't think I have watched another TNG episode since. So I guess it has to be that one for me. Man if there are dumber episodes than that, this show sure has really sucky episodes.

Caveman Riker is amazing though, I would totally buy that action figure.

It's the planet of the black people one. It's Cringe: The Episode.

I went to the TNG reunion a couple of years ago in Calgary and they straight up mentioned Code of Honor as being the worst episode they ever did :D

An obvious one, but Sub Rosa, where it turns out every woman in the Crusher clan for generations has been boning a candle ghost, is pretty spectacular. It's a secret pleasure for me though, there are certainly more straighforwardly lousy episodes in the first season or two.

Definitely Planet of the Black People (Code of Honor). Katharyn Powers would go on to basically rewrite the episode for the first season of Stargate SG-1 (Emancipation). While the Stargate version is better as it's not super racist, it's still not a good episode.

I also have a fond memory of the terrible episode where they come across some scavanger aliens who kidnap Geordie to fix their ship as they don't know how to fix it. I seem to remember one line where they describe their scavenging as looking for "things that make us go".

It's Aquiel!

Of course it's Aquiel!

Geordi screws up a murder investigation just to bang the chief suspect! The killer is the dog!

How am I the first person in this thread to suggest it!

I like Genesis for some of the makeup work alone, and kind of admire them for attempting a slight horror episode.

He admitted he was shit in that episode, in the special features of the HD version. Basically "I'd slept like 1 hour and I couldn't act my way out of a paper bag that day"

I dont know why but I love that episode in kind of a weird "The Royale" kind of way

I'm sorry, the episode where everyone turned horny? Are you sure that wasn't the porn parody?

Either "Genesis" or "Sub Rosa." They're both dumb as bricks. "Genesis" is actually watchable on a certain goofy level whereas "Sub Rosa" is absolutely godawful.

The seventh season of TNG is mostly crap. The standout crap are
  • Sub Rosa
  • Lower Decks
  • Genesis
  • Journey's End
  • Firstborn

Whoooooooa, "Lower Decks" doesn't belong anywhere on that list. It's one of the best episodes the show ever did.

He's talking about The Naked Now, the second episode of the show.

It's horrible.

Luckily I seem to have blocked that one from my memory. Oh wait, is that the one where Data gets it on with Tasha Yarr?

Also, planet of the black people is easily the worst.

i vote The Cost of Living. most of the episode is about Lwaxana Troi and Worf's kid Alexander ditching everyone to go to a holodeck simulation of a planet of free spirits. it is a nightmarish realm of forced whimsy - Cirque Du Soleil as a bad acid trip. large chunks of time are spent w the two complaining while sitting with freaks in a mud bath. upon arriving there to check it out Worf encounters the below monstrosity, a head painted like a rubix cube, floating in a bubble, and prone to making derpy o-faces.
