Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XIII: Leak Dynasty

Given Hyrule Warriors, it's not impossible. But given Snake's popularity, if he's not in the game for everyone to start with, whoever gets him as a pre-order bonus will get the most pre-orders. For example...

- Best Buy pre-orders get Snake
- GameStop pre-orders get the Chorus Men
- Amazon pre-orders get the Ice Climbers
- Wal-Mart pre-orders get Lucas
- Target pre-orders get Wolf

If this was the case, Best Buy would win with GameStop likely being in 2nd due to them actually having a newcomer.

I could see something like that happening. Still, that would suck.

Again, it's no guarantee, but we do have a reason for the DLC leak existing (the ESRB having to know any DLC with data within the game), so it's not outside the realm of possibility. And if the pictures are legit & the ESRB was watching the video, they likely got a document specifying the nature of the 5 DLC characters & what they will bring to the game.

I'd just like to hope that there's more than 1 newcomer DLC, and it's not mostly veterans. Rhythm heaven rep isn't exactly the most popular thing to attach to DLC. You'd think they'd put fan favorites/highly requested characters as DLC. A character that most people don't know about? Iffy.

I don't really consider this debunking.

It's sort of like saying

"It'd be really easy to fake this, all you do is take Slaking and then redraw him."

Not to mention the leaker would have to either have access to famitsu, be able to change it to match famitsu fast enough for the leak the same day, or be INCREDIBLY LUCKY to guess the exact color scheme of the room that would be in famitsu.

I think people have agreed it's possible to make a copy of the room. More that it seems odd to have selected a never shown before room in Smash and get the right location for it.

Since the locations are likely dynamic its location could be taken either way -- that it proves it because it's the same room in the same location or that the same room is unlikely to be in the same location and therefore even more coincidental.

BGBW shown how you can do this fairly easy with a copy of Tomodachi Life.

The problem is or isn't if someone could fake the room, someone could have faked ALL of this if they had enough free time to do it. The issue is the stage select screen icon is almost identical to the picture in the famitsu scan, this can only mean a few things

1- Faker had a god like guess

2- Fake somehow had access to Famitsu's scans/issue before everyone else and was able to model their fake off a real image everyone would soon discover to create fake credibility

3- The image is real, and Famitsu just used the image from a stock pile Nintendo sent the magazine

Possibly the best name and avatar I've seen on NeoGAF.

I thought the Famitsu pic had it on the top floor while the leak is on the middle floor? Either way, I think the rooms shuffle around, anyway.

Has a fighting game ever locked a character behind retailer specific DLC?

I know MvC3 had pre-order characters, but they went on the store quickly and it wasn't retailer specific.

One thing I can GARANTEE to you is that Snake will NOT be dlc.

Not even Super Smash Third Party Sony Characters had a third party dlc.

That's why they would probably bundle them together. Hype up Snake & the Chorus Men, while those two (technically 4 for each Chorus Man & Snake) bring the other 3 along for the ride.

Retailer exclusive character DLC as per Hyrule Warriors. I can't even imagine the rage.

I think we will see a lot of:

Nintendo and Sakurai just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Smash for either system, nor will they purchase any of Nintendo's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Nintendo and Sakurai has alienated an entire market with this move.

Nintendo and Sakurai, publicly apologize and cancel retail exclusive Smash DLC or you can kiss your business goodbye.

But how cool is it if he's the VERY LAST character announced, especially as DLC (weeks/months after release) and says 'Kept you waiting, Huh?'

Maybe snake isn't in early because voice acting couldn't be coordinated yet?

I could see them bundling chorus kids (3 characters at once) with Ice Climbers (2 characters at once) for some synergy. That's about as far as I'm willing to stretch though.

Or, the most obvious true fact: Famitsu found the leaker's images, and used (a slightly modified version of) the Tomodachi stage's picture from the leak. Obviously.

Hyrule warriors didn't have preorder DLC in japan (it was bundled w/ collector's edition).
But with that release, we had already heard about DLC for a long time.

Seems like a fair bet that we won't see the Smash DLC released until a good chunk of time after the (3DS) game. At least that's what my gut says.

Yup, I agree. I think if launch DLC were the case we would have heard about it by now. Maybe japan's first DLC release coincided with out own, and then all DLC is global (lol - I wish)

I'm still wondering if, as far-fetched as it sounds, it's possible due to the difference in time between when physical copies leak and when the digital copies release, as I've only been seeing scans of the digital version of Famitsu for the Smash Bros sections. It's just a thought, and totally unsubstantiated at the moment, I just think the whole situation is pretty funny. It certainly is the most convincing evidence, and makes things a hell of a lot more interesting.

Actually, you got Link's costume if you bought the vanilla version early (I think maybe until August 31st? Not sure). Zelda's costumes (and Link's) were in the retailer special edition, while Ganondorf's costumes (and Link + Zelda's) were limited to the online-only Treasure Box bundle.

For me, the best case scenario is that the leak is true, but there's still more characters. That would be nice.

Have full characters even been offered as retailer exclusive DLC? Like, in a game where that matters?

I can see them doing retailer exclusive costumes at most.

And registering your game on Club Nintendo gives you the N64 Model Costume Pack for the original 12~

How long before a game's release do retailer-exclusive preorder bonuses usually get announced? We're getting down to the wire with the 3DS version, and we haven't heard anything yet. I would think that Gamestop, Best Buy, etc., would want to announce any bonuses as early as possible in order to get the most customers.

Just looking at the potential leak and its DLC contents, is anyone else completely surprised that there are only five Pokémon characters? Brawl's roster was much smaller and technically had six playable Pokémon, and the Pokémon series has grown considerably since 2005/2006. There should be an equal amount of Pokémon or more of them, not fewer. Considering the presence of Mega Evolutions, Mewtwo is a really glaring omission.

I'm sure if you search deep enough, you'll find a game but heavy hitters like Tekken, Soul Cal, anything from Capcom or Arksys haven't done so.

Not even MK or Injustice

Get Platinum on Club Nintendo for the Bayonetta DLC

Don't kill my wallet, plz

I'm convinced one of next year's Club Nintendo plat rewards is going to be a Gold Mario Amiibo or something. Some sort of weird exclusive Amiibo. It just seems obvious.

I will be disappointed if they don't put a couple amiibos on there. Even if they cost a lot of coins, not like there's anything else besides digital stuff.

Can't think of retailer specific, but plenty of collector's editions have (MVC3). Retailer stuff is almost always costumes, like MK9.

yes please.

Nintendo can make so much money for alt costumes. They probably would have made tens of thousands if Samus's new alt costumes were DLC.

I feel like Mewtwo makes it even more gen-one centric.
