GTA V modding thread

I mean is it used elsewhere in the game, like in cutscenes or by cops?
I think they just disabled it.
The flag for AllowCrouchedMovement is changed from false to true in this mod so the animation is probably included in the game but R* decided not to use it for whatever reason.

So another one of Rockstar's brilliant ideas, along with disabling the ability to leave your vehicle engine running, and police helicopters instantly respawning after destroying them.

You occasionally do see NPCs crouching, mainly when they're non-aggressive ones that just duck and cover. I'd guess they were playing around with it and decided the cover system plus hunched stealth mode fit better to the situations they usually use it in.

I'd guess eventually we'll get a mod that allows both the standard stealth and a separate crouch toggle button.

Crouching is not stealthy. Crouch mode is the games stealth mode. When you're trying to be sneaky, you don't actually bend down to half height hoping no one sees you.

I had the same thought too when I first started playing of like "Damn why isn't there a crouch" until I realized how dumb it is for someone to sneak around by doing a weird bent over thing. I mean, I get it.

The Rockstar logo is kinda annoying to watch every time you start the game, but here's how to remove it:

  1. Install latest version of OpenIV and its .asi loader.
  2. Make a backup of update\update.rpf file.
  3. Open update\update.rpf using OpenIV.
  4. Enter edit mode.
  5. Add empty BIK file named rockstar_logos.bik to x64\movies (inside update.rpf), replacing the existing one.
  6. Rebuild update.rpf (File menu when in Edit mode).

This still leaves the disclaimer about auto-updates etc but I don't know if that is a video or just something from the game engine. Still, it speeds up loading the game a bit.

Cheers, definitely going to try this out.

Also the police rebalance mod is fucking great. Cops don't have terminator accuracy anymore, so you can actually have decent firefights. Plus there's more variation in the vehicles they use, along with a greater chance of seeing female officers.

It is if you're trying to hide behind something. Also stealth mode doesn't help if you're behind an object taking fire, you need to be able to crouch to avoid getting hit.

They have a cover system that lets you snap behind cover and move along it to avoid getting shot. And if you're getting shot at, there really isn't a need to be stealthy anymore.

I get what you mean if it's something like a wall, and you want to crouch and run away from it, but generally a wall low enough that you need to crouch to get behind won't really grant much cover as soon as you start walking away from it.

The trade off of how unrealistically goofy it looks compared to the gameplay service it offers, I understand why Rockstar made the choice they did.

I know but you're not always close to the cover, you have to run up to it then go in to cover mode.

Lets say there's a car between me and a cop, if I just run up to the car I risk getting hit. But if I first crouch, then crouchwalk up to the car I'm a lot safer.

Best solution would be if you could have both crouch and stealth mode

I was having problems with barbers not working. Trying to check if it's caused by the bik file or the more likely police mod.

I just did the bik replacement as per your instructions and don't have the police mod yet, will try the barbers now.

EDIT: works just fine for me (hair and beard without issue)

Yeah works fine for me too as expected. I think there's something with the police mod that breaks them for me. Might try again and see what happens. Basically when you press the button to select haircut you never sit in the chair, the game just waits a moment and then twiches and shows the selection again.

If you're using Sfx or REshade those make the intro menus lag like hell until you get in game. The Scroll Lock key should toggle it on and off, so try and toggle it off when the game has just launched so that those menus stay smooth.

I don't have any shaders or anything installed whatsoever, and the menus are still crazy laggy for me - fps drops super low, buttons unresponsive etc.
I don't have a bad system either, running on a 970 and i7 2600k @ 4.1GHz but for some reason the menus are nearly unusable lol

Holy crap just the basic script hook/loader is so awesome. Just spent the whole afternoon playing around with it. Can't wait to see the more streamlined stuff people come up with.

What you need to do is set Reshade to start with effects disabled (it's in the settings file). Then when the game has loaded, hit Scroll Lock to enable them.

Yeah no worries, the main menu (if you're talking about that one) is laggy as shit for me too, even vanilla. iirc it's locked to 30fps so that's why it feels so sluggish when controlled with a mouse.

On an unrelated note I wish more scripts were open source, I know how to edit and compile stuff when I see it but no idea how to wrap it up from scratch haha (i.e. I added some hotkeys to the Enhanced Native trainer for fixing the player/car/wipe wanted level). Just right now I'd need a No-Clip mod that would allow me to carefully position my char but nope, both mods I tried are - while still useful and functional - way too fast in terms of movement speed.

Oh dude I totally forgot about that option. Awesome tip, thanks.

How did you manage to get this working? Just tried 2x peds 2x vehicles and I crash after a minute or two even with priority on high.
Do you have heaps of RAM? (I only have 8GB, not sure if that's the root cause of it though)

I found that it did that when I had Vsync turned off.

Modifies the executable though; the blank file replacement is a clean and safer way to do this imo. But whatever works :p

OpenIV got a hot fix update btw, update should be possible through the tool.

What's the update for?

Also yeah, this method of removing the intro videos is a lot better than modifying the .exe file. Less chance of trouble for using a modified executable.

So I've started modding GTA V... I downloaded these two batch files which are for turning off asi loaders and such.. Is that good enough for GTA Online or do I need to get a whole new install path for online only?

Just remove the dinput8 and scripthookv dll files from your game directory before going into Online and you're in the clear, as long as you're just using script mods. That's what I've been doing since the first mods came out, have yet to be banned.

Since RPF editing has become possible, you'd have to replace whatever file you modify. So if you used a mod that edited Update.rpf, you'd need to replace it with the original Update.rpf to be able to go online.

I myself am not so sure due to not much of knowing the in and outs of PC but I did just upgrade from 8 to 16 ram and bought a GTX 980, love this mod... I crashed the first time i installed it but has been great ever since. I just have the fuel mod installed now with this mod. I hope you can get it too rub, the city is so damn bustling.

Advanced car controls thing is great, might try and find a fuel mod to go with it. I think cars have a fuel variable and R* locked it as not to annoy people, or at least that's my guess as you can run out of gas if your tank is leaking - makes me wonder if the fuel gauge in cars will automatically work with a fuel mod.

Gonna find a bunch that just add extra features without changing the game's dynamics, and complete story mode with them. Interested in the cops behavior overhaul thing but i'd rather not have anything that might mess with scripted police on missions or whatever - i hope something gets released soon on its own that makes crimes with no witnesses not give you a wanted level.

I think I remember watching a "GTA Mythbusters" episode where they deliberately shot the tank then checked and you could see the gas draining on the meter, though I could be wrong.

ah interesting if true, though i wouldn't be surprised with the level of detail R* put into inane things that you will never see, or you will only see once :p

I remember when I used to do this to GTA:SA with the gameshark on PS2, this brings back so much nostalgia, and also really shows how stunning GTAV's graphics engine is, even if in a somewhat unusual way:

I wouldn't trust anything that modifies the .exe file. More likelyhood of getting you banned from online etc plus it's a lot more hacky and likely to break on an update. To the game loading a blank .BIK file is no different from loading the real one.

Mhh yeah good point. Didn't even think about online. Tried it a few minutes and didn't like it very much.
