GTA V modding thread

I'm so glad we're getting mods to reduce the fog, improve the color palette, and get rid of chromatic aberration. Those, combined with the police re-balancing mods, are pushing me ever closer to buying the game and trying it out for myself.

The latest OpenIV update supposedly fixes the crashes that have been occurring lately.
Still can't add the streamedpeds_players.rpf to update.rpf without having the game crashing while loading the story mode :,( I should bug GooD-NTS about it eventually... I mean, it's the file that will be used for main character outfit mods and whatever after all.

OpenIV crashes, or in-game crashes? If you mean in-game ones, should I rebuild all the rpfs I rebuilt with the previous version of OpenIV?

In-game crashes. There was supposedly a bug in the code.

New update is available for OpenIV 2.6. Critical bug fixed in archives editing.

The first times i edited the files i rebuild it too. Now i just edit the files and close OpenIV and all mods working fine, but the Game worked fine the first times after rebuilded the rpf. too. Now i`m curious to know when its good to rebuild, can you explain it? If the Files are large? ty.

You need to rebuild archive when you want to reduce it size after hundreds edits.
While rebuilding OpenIV extract all files from archive into temp folder and then creates new archive and put all files back.

So rebuilding causes problems?

No it is not. We had bug in our code which was possible not only in rebuilding but also in regular editing.

Nah I can just tell that they are sound loops, I do a lot of sound modding.

A loop is basically a long .wav file that goes "RATATATATATATATATA" instead of the usual short .wav file that goes "BANG".

So if you were to replace a sound loop with a regular single-shot sound it wouldn't work well ingame. The sound file would play once and then there would be silence as you shoot through the rest of the magazine.

Finding a good loop sound file is hard. Although it might be possible to change the properties of the automatic guns so they use single shot sound files instead.
We just have to hope the modders can crack the encrypion so we can get some mod tools

FWIW this mod fixes the sound loops

What's "rebuilding"?

As far as I know it basically repacks the folder you've modified. I'm no expert though mind you :p

PSA: DO NOT USE THE NOCLIP OR ANGRY PLANES MODS. THE CUNT MOD AUTHORS PLACED TROJANS IN THE .ASI FILES.

http://www.reddit.com/r/GrandTheftAutoV_PC/comments/35xjyk/psaalexander_blade_confirms_noclip_mod_and_angry/

Luckily Malwarebytes quarantined the offending file for me when I used Angry Planes.
It's a damn shame NoClip is affected, it's pretty decent. Anyway, I hope this encourages some devs to develop a more advanced NoClip script; no wonder the author of Simple NoClip disappeared and didn't fix the ladder bug nor respond to any feedback...

Wow. Well I guess that might be what this was because of, then:

Heads up for everyone, friend of mine who has been installing all sorts of mod related stuff recently has had his PC security compromised, money and info stolen etc, and the most likely culprit right now is some infected mod download.
I don't want to sound alarmist, but I guess here's a friendly reminder for everyone: be mindful when downloading things from websites you're unfamiliar with and run virus/malware scans often (Win Defender, Malwarebytes, etc).
Stay safe, folks :)

Good to see it's been identified!

I don't think you even need visualsettings.dat. I just did some manual editing in the timecycle xml's and CA was removed just fine. I think the guy even messed up the file quite a bit since a ton of unrelated lines (like submarine lightning stuff - wtf?) are missing too.

Should be vanilla: http://pastebin.com/VEn1tCru
Which lines need to be changed to remove CA?
Ah nevermind, it should be chrom_aberration_coeff i guess.

Yeah, this sucks. I downloaded and installed the NoClip mod but never actually even used it. I noticed the executable running in the background, but I assumed it was some bug with the .Net plugin because if I closed it after GTAV ended it would stay closed.

I just changed all my passwords, sucky situation and hope not too many others were affected by it.

You're going to want to make sure it hasn't done things like disable Windows Defender / edit your registries (which it did to my buddy who had his money, steam account items etc stolen because of it).

I bet tons of people were infected and aren't even aware. Those two mods were featured like everywhere; the guy behind this thing sure is a criminal genius. Publishing working, intriguing mods when there are so few that everybody with the slightest interest in modding jumps at them. I still can't believe I've fallen for this being well aware that asi are highly privileged executables... But downloading and compiling the malware during script execution in-game and thus being undetected by nearly every AV scanner sure is some sneaky shit.

So what's the best visual mod out so far? Visual V is good, but it completely removes smog in extra sunny weather (which itself is more common with this mod), which exposes the bad LODs.

WHy can't there be a mod that only fixes the sounds instead of completely changing the guns? This is GTA, not esports.

Yeah, really not a fan of the mod. Stupid shit like only allowing you two carry 2 rockets for your RPG, and the screen shaking all over the place when you fire an assault rifle in third person.

Heh was just about to comment how stable even the "unstable" max level of peds/cars was, pulled out the nade launcher, pressed fire towards some grid locked cars on the freeway, insta crash :p

Just walking around though there's almost no perf hit with the max density applied. Rush hour on the freeways is in full effect, now I can relive my commute anytime!

Added a traffic video i just took, testing them out, this is the New York traffic 8x traffic/peds gameconfig

Hmm I just tried that one and for some reason it looked a bit low in density compared to your video, I just used the replace function in open iv, wonder if I need to delete and add manually. Didn't have an issue with doing that for the max preset. Will fiddle around with it and see what I can do.

Edit: must have been an error rebuilding or something, swapped it out for another and it looks fine now.

I think the "gridlock" preset is my ideal balance between peds and traffic. Not enough to make driving around a challenge yet plenty in view to give off the vibe you're looking at realistic density.

I shall implore mod makers to concoct a mod where Franklin is allowed to play tennis. Why can't he play tennis anyway in the first place?

It would be interesting to see the Liberty City map ported over to GTA V. There was a GTA V map mod in GTA IV way before it even came out for next gen consoles.

A non shit-filtered, vaseline-covered version of Liberty City would be cool.

More than anything, I want to see modifications to ragdolls so they act more like they did in Red Dead and Max Payne 3, or even IV at the very least.

It would be nice to have both maps side by side and have a bridge connect them. I'm just dreaming because I know it would be a ton of work but I would gladly pay for a mod like that.

Thought I would make a guide for people thinking about modding but aren't sure how to do so safely. This method SHOULD be safe. It's also the easiest method I know of.

1. Download Bilago's mod manager and set it up: https://www.gta5-mods.com/tools/gtav-mod-manager
2. I recommend you enable the disable mods on exit option and the block gta5.exe with the firewall option just for safety
3. Download ScriptHook (needed for most mods): https://www.gta5-mods.com/tools/script-hook-v
4. Place scripthookv.dll and dinput8.dll into the mod folder created by the mod manager in step 1
5. Download OpenIV (needed for many mods): http://openiv.com/?cat=23
6. Install OpenIV and leave it for now (until you need it for mods)
7. Some mods may also need a Lua plugin for ScriptHook. It should tell you in the mod installation instructions on the page. You can get it here: http://gtaforums.com/topic/789139-vrelhook-lua-plugin-for-script-hook-v/ Just place the files in your mod folder again. You need lua_sdk, main.lua, and the libs folder
8. Download any mod you like from https://www.gta5-mods.com/

If the mod needs RPF editing:
9a. Copy the update.rpf file from your GTA directory to another folder on your computer. Maybe where you installed the mod manager
9b. Open the rpf file with OpenIV.
9c. Follow the instructions on the mod page to copy over the files necessary to the rpf
9d. You'll get a warning that you need openiv.asi. Click ok and copy the file over to the mod folder created by the mod manager
9e. Open the mod manager, click import rpf, then follow the wizard. Choose your modded rpf, the normal rpf in the updates folder, and the name it anything
9f. To test it out, open the game through the mod manager and check your main installation folder. There should be a new rpf file and one with a .original suffix

If the mod only needs ScriptHook:
10a. Download the mod and paste the files inside the scripts folder in your mods folder created by the mod manager. Follow any mod instructions

Hopefully that's clear. I found it difficult to get the rpf stuff to work with the manager, and finding a good guide was a little hard. This is far better than doing it all manually. Ain't nobody got that time.

For more info on the mod manager go here: https://www.reddit.com/r/GrandTheft...1/release_version_gtav_mod_manager_by_bilago/

fake edit: just realised there's now a tutorial video lol. Still going to post this though. Screw it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=305&v=i22l1pEZ9u0
