R. Mika's popularity in Street Fighter is baffling

How come no one is bringing up this sexy ass beast. You ask me, I think some people had heart attacks when they saw this specimen today. He's showing more skin that she is.

Stop it! Bare-chested men with full beards are strictly for the female gaze, and are objectifying men!

All jokes aside, I like this alt costume.

I think she looks really cool honestly. Also tiny-waisted?

Enormous breasts, huge ass, but itty bitty waist. Doesn't look like anything resembling an actual woman, but if she were proportioned logically she would lose what drew most of her fans to her in the first place.

Here come the "guys present unrealistic standards too!" posts.

There's a character that smothers themself in oil and (basically) shoots you out of his butt.
There's a green Brazilian that spews electricity and is crazy cause why not.
There's a character who has his dong on display cause he doesn't care.

Have you ever played Street Fighter.

More between his thighs than anything.

I consider myself a feminist and I don't like her, nor I understand how she is an empowering character. But to each their own, I guess.

I mean, she literally has a move where she and her equally busty friend smother her opponent with their asses as an attack, it's so out of place. It's like something out of a harem anime, but nope it's in Street Fighter, and apparently everyone loves it.
Is it really though? There's a character who pours oil all over himself to slide around on people and one who crushes skulls like sparrow's egg between his thighs. Seems like Street Fighter to me.

And let me mention that while I know little about SF and never heard of this character before, it seems to me like plenty of people are genuinely happy to see her back and are talking about her moveset. There's nothing wrong with her design, especially of we're talking about Japanese fighting games, since there are worse offenders than Mika. I don't see how she's a problem now if she wasn't then.

And we can we stop acting like there haven't been male characters designed for the female gaze?

Read an article from a feminist defending her character, and I'm just at a loss.

You probably should stop assuming everyone wants the same things or get the same feelings from things.

Do you think female cosplayers also only do it for male gaze reasons?

She is a fun character and i want more low-tier chars in SFV. No more SFII please, in fact i want the return of more characters from Third Strike, the lack of Alex in SFIV was criminal. Bring Q please!.

From the article, and summed up far better than I could do myself--
"Because her whole schtick is silly, goofy, and way over-the-top–all the stuff you'd expect from someone working in 'sports entertainment.' Mainstream wrestling is a profession that's full of gimmicks, weird promos, and chairs meeting heads. Even male wrestlers outfit themselves in stupid costumes and show up on television framed in pin-up moments."
Basically, besides just being a "character" on the roster, she's a character, with an actual persona doing an acting job. That's a thousand times more personality than most characters in fighting games have. If this much effort went into every female character in gaming we'd barely have complaints about anything sexual. We want characters to act like human beings and have actual personalities. That trumps a silly outfit and some exaggerated curves that everyone else on the roster shares. Specifically responding to the OP; If generic harem characters were presented with this much refinement they'd, well, no longer be generic.

Full disclosure: I think her ass-to-face-to-ass finisher is atrocious, but otherwise there's little outside the bounds of goofy Street Fighter character shenanigans going on. Tell anyone that she's " female Zangief" and they'd understand instantly what the gimmick is. #SJWsuit

Straight guys like seeing hot girls in real life or video games. Her popularity isnt suprizing at all.
Im glad Capcom are aware of this. Mika looks great.

Please tell me more about "most of her fans". Sounds like some hivemind nonsense to me. Heck, it almost sounds like you are pulling this out of your ass.

Bro, E.Honda has command throw AND a command air assault where he attacks you with his ass. And that's probably bigger than both of theirs combined.

How is that attack out of place in this game again?

That is not a tiny waist by any means. She has large proportions overall and that waist is by no means unreasonable. Even from that funky back angle you can see it matches the slope of her hips fine.

I feel like women with big butts are getting the short end of the stick here. x_x

We are now discriminating against men with big butts!

Have you ever been to a gym? PLENTY of women there who have bigger legs that make their waists look tiny if they are developing muscle for size.

No, I'm not baffled by the fact that she's a feminist and saying it (there are like, 1000 different kinds of feminists), I'm more confused by her argument.

It basically boils down to saying that she's meant to emulate exploitative wrestling girls so it's OK, but that doesn't make it any less exploitative. And there's nothing wrong exactly with being exploitative, but I'm weirded out by the fact that Mika is the only character that gets a pass on this.

...You know, as a straight male, I could preorder at BestBuy or PSN to get those "fanservice" alt costumes for Cammy or Chun Li, this Ryu however is way too awesome looking for me to pass up on. Whether he is objectifying men or not. XD

lol. Street Fighter is built on ridiculousness. dude is a clown

also she explains pretty well why she's in favor of R. Mika. Sorry that doesn't go along with your bias that anyone that likes her is just some manchild needing new fapping material.

Ono likes Mika -- he wanted her in SSF4 but he got shouted down. That's the main reason why she's in SFV. She was #12 in the character poll, but Sakura, the generic anime schoolgirl with generic shoto gameplay, was even higher so don't take that too seriously.

Read an article from a feminist defending her character, and I'm just at a loss.

Never mind the fact that she was terrible and unfun in Alpha 3 (one of the weakest characters in the game for those who haven't played), but isn't she a little transparent to anyone? I mean, she's basically like a woman from a Dead or Alive or Soul Calibur game shoved into Street Fighter. I know that she's a wrestler, and I know that wrestling girls are supposed to be exploitative, but that doesn't make it any less exploitative.

She's a character designed from the ground up to appeal to the male gaze, which is where most of her support from over the years has come from. Almost no one who wanted this character back over the years was hyped about her moveset, they mostly just talked about her ass, but when you tell them as much they try to argue what a well thought out character she is.

I don't mind scantily clad characters in video games, but let's not act like Mika is anything more than transparent fan-service. No one playing Soul Calibur is pretending Ivy is anything more than she appears, so the same should apply here. Mika is just another E cupped, huge hipped, tiny-waisted fighting game girl, so the support she is getting from people who normally come down on that sort of thing is confusing.

I mean, she literally has a move where she and her equally busty friend smother her opponent with their asses as an attack, it's so out of place. It's like something out of a harem anime, but nope it's in Street Fighter, and apparently everyone loves it.

No fun train pulling in the station here!

R. Mika is a cool character, man. You seem kinda grouchy.

I didn't know who she was beforehand, I just happened to check out the thread that announced her joining the SFV roster. I don't think I even made it all the way through the trailer before I turned it off. Her character design is completely tasteless, and I was shocked at how transparent they were with sex appeal.

I'd be in the dick
I didn't even realize that she was a character from Street Fighter until the SFV reveal. I had seen her before but I thought she was from some other series.

Here's another shot of her. Her waist is not itty bitty.

And no actual woman on this Earth looks like this? None? Nowhere? Maybe there isn't but I find that hard to believe. Also, it's a fighting game, most of her fans likely care about her movset more than anything. Anyone who likes her specifically for her looks probably isn't a serious fighting game fan.

And this is bad in this case why?

It's like complaining a developed character is a stripper when the creators go out of the way to make sure that character is properly represented. Sure you will get some upset people on the other hand some will relate, feel empowered, or be happy the character was done.
