That's the point and where Saitama's problems are stemming from it. It is his character and his character development.

I think the underlying point to the quoted post is that this season's episodes are structurally front loaded into giving the illusion that it's subversive towards these superhero tropes and will continue to deconstruct them. Once it now logically follows a progression you could apply back into those same stereotypical tropes they used to be happy to subvert, there's a dissonance to Saitama's function as a character who was originally just a bored deus ex machina for these otherwise completely straightforward scenarios.

I really had to laugh when greasy AMMIRITE guy was like constantly undulating throughout his dumb stupid dumbass idiot speech. Such a hilarious animation decision, it really lent this car salesman-like dodginess to him even more than his basic character design

Not really a spoiler but just in case folks are concerned about reading what happens in an extra chapter. putting a few blank spaces between this and my reply. Not spoilering it because it's not in the main storyline.

Uh....did that prison hero dude have what I think he had in that syringe?

I'm still trying to work it out. Because it can't be what I think it is. It cant.

I don't think it's actually anything bad because it's other heroes that are in the scene.

It's not a part of the main storyline but there's an extra chapter in Murata's version that deals with Pri-Pri. It shows Sonic getting thrown into the prison ward that Pri-Pri is in. It's basically the dumping ground for all of the most dangerous criminals in their world that can't be handled by regular police/prisons. It was lawless until Pri-Pri came a year or so back with one of the criminal bounties he had taken a liking too. He decided to go in himself. Pri-Pri basically forced everyone to get along or they'd be punished. In this chapter it was mentioned it would be a deep kiss (doesn't happen in the chapter) but dunno how far he goes.

Apparently, Pri-Pri does actually have a sense of justice and knows attacking innocent people is no bueno but comes up with the dumb idea that attacking criminals while arresting them would be two birds with one stone. Obviously, that's not true, lol. But at the very least Pri-Pri wouldn't do that to heroes or civilians.

It's also implied in episode 8 but he actually has a serious boyfriend and he's the one that knitted the sweater that gets ripped up during "Angel Style"

You know, I take back what I said, its fine if there comes an enemy who can't be taken down with one punch if the joke is immediately that the second punch finishes it. I could appreciate that

That was a fantastic episode. Mumen Rider is the best. They really did that scene justice. Well, everything else too. The fight with Genos was short but it was hype as fuck.

In the manga he's wearing a shirt with NEET on it, I was hoping I'd see it. I guess they removed it for the anime.

As stoic as he likes to think he is it seems to me that Genos is cocky, arrogant and a show off, he likes the attention he gets and takes way too much pride in his battle analysis. In contrast Saitama presents himself as aloof and dumb when in reality he has a very understanding of the situations he is placed in.
Interesting.

Whenever Genos does something the animation ramps up by a lot, and then it quickly ends. Maybe this is intentional and it encapsulates Genos's character? Always trying to dash into the competition, all guns blazing only to get shot down quickly.

Hopefully Genos learns something from his hasty actions.

Great episode. Licenseless rider best bro, there's a good reason why he's constantly high ranking in popularity contest.
Genos might be a jobber, but every scene he's in is sakuga heaven. Damn that fight was sweeeet.
Saitama punch so hard it stop raining was a nice touch.

There's always that guy who got to ruin it by making baseless assumption and shit.

they removed all the hilarious shirts. The girl Saitama saves from Piccolo/Vikingman at the start is supposed to be wearing a shirt that says "CHILD" or something on it. The dad and kid last episode I think had "DAD" and "KID" on their shirts as well.

I don't know why, probably because animating text moving while staying on-model is a hassle.

Truthfully, Genos should blitz almost everything. He is ridiculously powerful. It's just his luck he runs with Saitama. Of course, it's at least taught him more humility.

Well, that's one of the angles I see him from. I think he's supposed to encapsulate 'shonen hero' complete with "cool sounding quips" and looks cool and constantly gets into battles where his body's destroyed, but he's a cyborg so he can do it to comic effect (in DBZ's and Bleach's case, they have various handwavey explanations as to why their mangled bodies heal so fast.) The fact that he was able to do that punch on the Sea King and turn around and say 'WAS THAT THE LAST OF THEM' in that "cool pose" drives that home.

Also, he says he doesn't care about certain things, like fame or his fan club, but the fact that he gets so mad over the fact that Saitama doesn't get properly recognized means that he does, in fact, think those two things are things Saitama deserves and thus 'are important.' Saitama himself is mature enough to ignore an idiot sending hate mail, but Genos gets angry.

I'm glad that Puri-Puri is one tough cookie.

There's a thing about this series that makes me really feel the hits. This looks absolutely brutal.

I guess everyone understands now why Manga readers like Mumen Rider.

This has been the best episode so far. The added scenes were great as well. Saitama's rain-stopping punch was epic. The only thing that bothers me is Saitama's voice whenever he's shouting.
Can't wait for the last 3 episodes!

Still weird with all the rape stuff, but I take it as in-universe explanation.

The anime is a good adaptation of the manga but they DO went farther in it with the antagonism Saitama is facing from the public and his reactions to it than in the manga.

I could have sworn he got more pointless hate-mail in the manga. All in all the anime's version of everyone's antagonism towards him seem more impotent and small since they look like even bigger dumbasses here.

I think Genos doesn't find them important for himself, but wants Saitama to get the fame and attention he deserves.

I love shit like this. Don't know if there's a name for the style of animation, but the sacrifice of detail for really fucking smooth animation is awesome. Some people don't like that but I love it. Adds a lot of style points for me.

When it does look like this, it is the real shit. Perfect for fight scenes.
Seen many strange people, watching scenes like this frame by frame, and complain about the "lazy animation"

Some people do not even unterstand the meaning of animation. It is all about movement / motion.

There are some Naruto Episodes with this style. Like Naruto VS Sasuke (Kids) or Naruto Fox Mode VS Pain.

That flow, that power. Sick stuff. Getting goosebumps seeing scenes like this :)

I feel like only a few really appreciate things like that.

I didn't think I would get back to Shonen but OPM made me do it. I really like the balance between the fights and the humor and it doesn't feel like any other shonen despite borrowing heavyly from them. I also greatly appreciate the lack of filler episodes.
I may even buy the manga when it will be available in France.

Btw. Why is Puri Puri Prisoner S-Rank anyways? He is a convicted rapist, one would think that would tarnish the name of the hero association..

ONE's manga goes into an explanation for S Rank beyond where Murata's version is right now. (and far beyond what we'll see in this season)

Very slight manga spoilers:
S Rank is essentially a dumping ground for ridiculously strong heroes. A-C were the only ranks when the Hero Association was first founded, but eventually they discovered some heroes that were incredibly strong and felt the need to make a special rank for them. For example, Watchdog Man who we saw in an earlier episode was like the absolute bottom of C Rank despite being really strong, possibly because he didn't bother to report the huge monsters he would defeat.

The difference between that fight and Genos vs Sea King is that in Genos vs Sea King that style lasted as long as it was needed.

In Naruto vs Pain it overstayed it's welcome and ended up making the fight looking like a parody or comical relief.

I often see people use the term animation when they're actually talking about the art.

Yeah this :)

Hm, maybe. But i still liked it (even if looking funny at some parts). But yeah, almost could make you feel like watching a Studio 4°C scene (but with less budget), when they are on LSD mode :D

OPM is more of a Shounen parody and is generally labeled Seinen.

It's a thing that became really popular with a generation of animators that started out by making making animations online. They would use things like flash to make to make animated gifs with smooth action with very simple designs.

Japanese studios started hiring them, one of them is this dude. He worked on space dandy. He has interview on his site that talks about that style of animation.

http://bahijd.tumblr.com/

Ps....that naruto v pain fight along with every other fight animated by the same guy, I forget his name, are best things to come out of that horrible show.

If you like that style check out the 6th one piece movie One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island

Amazing animation!

I'm usually not fond of this style, but OPM does (I dunno how) a great job with it.
I don't understand how anime (tv) nowadays still hasn't improved much on the animation part (make it more fluid, adding more animation to background stuff and characters) and try making it looking like this shot but with more details.

Hopefully this show inspires studios to a) give the animators more money b) make better animations (at least in action scenes)

It's only possible with simpler drawings. The more detailed the design the weirder all the stretching, and distortion a will look. Not too mention it will require more man power.

OPM is labeled Seinen because it technically runs in the digital companion to Young Jump, which is Shueisha's Seinen Magazine. That said, it really has nothing making it more suited for Seinen than Shonen, which is probably why it runs in English Shonen Jump with no issue

Yeah, but at least they could add more animation to the characters (i.e. body language) and animate the background instead of letting it freeze in time.

How far is the manga compared to the webcomic by ONE and are there any differences beside the obvious art change? This show is really one of the few anime in a season that I would binge watch.

imho it depends how offmodel exactly it gets. Some of that Naruto stuff, I've only really seen gifs off, but it kinda goes TOO far... the characters might as well be a blurry mess. But stuff like this where Genos recognizably remains Genos, or in TTGL, that's fine. (probably the same animators if i had to guess actually)
