If we're trying to avoid the typical blowback of scam / vaporware /etc comments, then we should probably shy away from using mostly official footage. Better to use 2.0 PTU stuff provided by the community as examples of SC here and now. Perhaps even a tongue in cheek crash to desktop gif. In the very least structure the post so it starts with the here and now and segues into the future. Old man is the future. Retaliator damage can be replaced with any number of videos showing internal ship damage from 2.0. The crash is already PTU sourced.

Perhaps it conceptually overlaps a bit with the new 2.0 thread to replace this one, but showing too much of too much of the "future date" stuff in a thread about getting $100 million in funding is just asking for hell.

I imagine it'll be for sale at all times when it's hanger ready. I don't think it was inherently meant to be rare in its own right. Of course it wont have LTI when it comes back. Well, not unless they kill the whole limited time LTI business.

Based on its size the F8 doesn't look at all comparable to a Hornet. It looks more like a Gunship than a Dogfighter.

I think the size is kind deceiving due to the lack of any real nose - the cockpit is basically at the very front of the main fuselage. That combined with the fact that the glass doesn't extend beyond the back of the chair makes it seem like the rear of the ship is bigger than it really is.

That said, the number of guns and missiles it has for a supposedly nimble fighter is OP in the general context of the game we have. I'm fine with that if it remains a UEE only ship. No sales to citizens ever. Capture one and you'll have no insurance along with being KOS in UEE space. If they have any other plans for that ship, it better be nerfed heavily. Stripped hardpoints with no ability to ever replace them heavy.

Edit: Also not sure where in the vault these came from, as the latest updates for me are Crucible dev galleries...

It is an extra 2 meters longer and has a wider wing area, not to mention all those guns, many of which are gimballed.

I too hope that they don't release these. In the PU they should be used for safe zone patrols to stop any kind of funny business.

Nothing, I suppose. Just have them fly in squadron, and put ace level AI in them. If somebody can get them, good on them, they just then have to live with the penalty of not being able to show their face in UEE space while flying one of these.

Theoretically nothing is outright stopping you. Things can make it a massive headache though. Capturing one will be hard as they'll likely never be by themselves or far from additional backup. It also wouldn't be out of the question for the ship to have a constant location beacon to the UEE command. I doubt the military just lets ships wander around without having a way to track them. If they did have one, they could theoretically find you wherever you ran to.

Lets be generous and say they can't track you, and you get away.Then there's the small issue of repairs: the fact that it would be impossible. The repair document has the tool looking up ship structures in an internal database. Do you think the UEE is going to have a classified fighter's schematics in the public domain? So now you have a ship that's basically a time bomb that'll be scrap after a few good fights. Even if you could repair it, once it's dead, it's gone forever until you managed to take another due to the lack of insurance.

Then there's refueling. Refueling at any legal orbital? Any reasonable expectation would be immediate reporting to the UEE as a stolen ship and refusal of service. You can't exactly fake a reason for having a military ship at a civilian refueling station.

Finally, flying a UEE specific ship in pirate controlled space might not be the best idea in the world. I'd imagine NPCs (and even possibly humans) would take a fire first, ask questions later attitude.

I think it is mainly lighting and secondary model characterists (animatoin is still great IMO). THings that they should be fixing up anyway.

meh. After seeing digital Mark Hamil, digital Gary Oldman no longer looks that good.

Part of it is the suit. The flight suit and helmet look great and enhance the face. In comparison, the suit used for the speech looks kind of plasticy and off. The other part is the hair. There's no hair for Hamill's scene (aside from stubble and eyebrows) to get in the way. The senate speech, on the other hand, has to deal with a full head of hair that is less realistic than the rest of the face. Minor things, but every minor thing stands out like a wart the closer you get to perfection.

I just tried the PTU for a half hour. I only managed to get into the game once. The framerate was inexplicably far worse than the last time I got in, the station rotation was erratic as hell (network rubber-banding?) and my ship was bumping around like crazy as I just sat in the cockpit at a dead stop.

I'll try again in another day or two.

It is much more stable on my end. The server performance though degrades so quickly.. and your personal framerate with it. I hope that is solved soon enough!

Probably not. The x86 architecture will (hopefully) be long dead by then along with any emulators for it. Even if you managed to find a copy of the 900+ year old game that wasn't bit rotted / corrupted, you'd have a hell of a time getting it to run.

F7C. I upgraded my Avenger to the Hornet thinking it was the better ship but it seems like that isn't the case.. i should have went with the Gladius.

Hornet is great and all, but the Gladius is so much more fun to fly. It definitely is weaker in terms of durability though.

i rented out the Gladius earlier today and got more kills in it than flying in the Hornet. The Hornets thrusters might be the reason it doesn't feel as fun to fly... does anyone know what weapons i should equip that would make my civilian variant more like the military version?

The Super Hornet is the closest to the military Hornet we can get as Star Citizens.

Edit: For clarification:

F7A is the Military Hornet.
F7C is the Civilian Hornet.
F7C-M Super Hornet is still a Civilian Hornet (the C designation). It's closest to being like the F7A and has the second seat (the only Hornet that has that, in fact). (To be honest I like the paint job on this Hornet too, it reminds me of the VF-1 that Hikaru flew in the original Macross anime.)

If you want to pimp out a regular Hornet you have a few options, like the nose turret, missile racks, and the new S4 ball mount to replace the cargo area. You can rent these with REC as well.

Hornet and Avenger here, haven't felt the need to buy anything else, though the ships have obviously come a long way since year one of the campaign. It helps that I don't play Arena Commander / 2.0. Would've probably sprung for a Super Hornet or Gladius (one of my favourite ships) otherwise.

I got the F7A upgrade when it was for sale a couple of years ago, during veteran's day.
Haven't applied it yet, because i don't have a Hornet yet (i was going to buy one in game) but didn't Ben say a long time ago, that the upgrades are essentially body-kits, and won't really make it the military version.
