The Game Awards 2015 Thread: Keighley's Last Supper

Wait did Splatoon win best shooter or no?

Also the stream on their site starts in the middle of a Reggie speech. I dont think the full thing is up yet?

Edit: ok looks like it did. Sweet.

I love Conan and love his Clueless Gamer bits, but as the other guy said, it would be him making nerd jokes the entire time and childishly oogling any women that pass by. When he says in his gaming advert segments that he doesn't play games and he doesn't even like them, I tend to think he's actually telling the truth there. Even though it can be funny, I'm not sure that's the direction you want to take the show in where you want to make it more sophisticated and respected.
He's not. It's a comedy bit. Him and Andy Richter even did a voice over Easter Egg in Halo 4.
What's his angle, deep cuts about video games? No. His schtick is the old man who doesn't get video games, he can't break that for a whole night and I doubt he has it in him. Even the sign off on his YouTube clips are 'I'll let you get back to your pirated movies and Japanese pornography.' or some such. He uses the 'Me' and 'Them' style of humour when it comes to these things. I think it's a bit naive to think he cares about games with Clueless Gamer, it's a sideshow, it gets clicks on the internet, that's it.

Anyway yeah, my vote goes to Troy Baker. He's in the biz, get's video games and the culture and he's a funny, handsome guy. Win-win. Pair him with Laura Bailey or Jennifer Hale if you want and you're golden.
I mean, it's pretty naive to think that if he did take the job and they gave him money, that he would just ignore what they wanted out of him and would continue to do his schtick from a comedy bit he does. I'm pretty sure he did his whole segment tonight without making fun of nerdy gamers.

I gotta say, while the Dorito Pope persona will always be amazing, Geoff really rocked it this time around. The Iwata tribute, the Konami call-out, and another awesome Industry Icon segment were all really well done and exceptionally heartfelt. The dude seems to honestly care about the industry, the industry, and the people in it.

All in all, solid show, I'll be looking forward to next year.

Kind of hard for Keighley to look passionate when he's glancing down at a prompter (or the floor?) every 15 seconds.

They need a charismatic comedian to host. Doesn't have to be a big name celebrity, but someone fun and loose, that won't fall back on "Haha gamers are nerdy" humor.

Why not just get a gamer celebrity with charisma who's guaranteed to show a certain degree of deference for the thing?

Like, you know.... Day9. I would argue he has more charisma than the personas most of the celebrities listed on this page have shown when in a game related context.

I think most people would agree that Geoff is a pretty legit dude.

Greg Miller, Johnny V, and Jeff Green were great to see. That Snake joke was weird with Sutherland there and him seemingly being cool with everything. Overall good show, I'm glad Greg Miller won that dude deserved it.

I don't really know the guy. Is there a good video that showcases his talents? All I see from Google is that he's an eSports announcer, and I'm not sure if those skills really translate to hosting an awards show.

The Hayter bit was uncalled for, and I've got the distinct impression for a moment that she fumbled the award and gave it to the wrong game and they just decided to roll with it.

The cue card was just wrong. If you re-watched the video you can see that she was reading straight from the cue card and even showed the card to the actress. Also Her Story music was playing right after she announced the winner.

Yes it did, you know you done fucked up when Nintendo beats you in that, as good as Splatoon can be.

Loved the Metal Gear moments. Jade Raymond name dropping David Hayter, the Quiet music performance, and the Hideo Kojima shout out. Was a good show.

Also really like the actual look of the trophy/statue

This is the E3 PC "conference" from earlier this year. He had to run a 2 and a half hour show that was mostly focused on smaller session with devs with a handful of minor announcements throughout.

This is his channel. My life of starcraft is probably the video he's most well known for here.

His presentation skills definitely aren't limited to the esports arena.

I would be all over that. Day9 is such an incredibly charming dude that you can't help but love him. Don't know that it'd actually happen, but it would be perfect.

I'm confused as hell. Do people not realize the Hayter comment was a joke? Like, it's pretty normal on award shows for presenters to do scripted jokes poking fun at the stars.

No one outside the industry would take it seriously enough as a performer (even, and maybe even especially, comedic performers). No one inside the industry is an A-level host.

Honestly I'd say Kumail Nanjiani would be good for it but I can already see the racist tweets lighting up at the though.

I would genuinely love to see a drunk/stoned Jade Raymond host the awards. She was by far my favorite part of that show tonight.

Those retweets too.

I feel like I'm dreaming.

The worst part about this... Is knowing from the other thread that Kojima is a huge Star Wars fan and they set it up so he would have received an award from Luke Skywalker himself.

Man this makes Jim seem even more of an ass.

Did I miss a reference from the show?

Seems the Jade gaffe is just before 2h55m.

Is this a Marisa Tomei situation?

her speech

not to mention how she fucked up when giving the award too, she read the goty winner instead.

If they wrote the card wrong then it's not really her fault. You're a presenter, you open the card and read what's on it. If it says Witcher 3, then she says Witcher 3.

It makes him seem childish, totally unprofessional and ill-informed as to how Geoff handled what happened on the show because he did not even watch. Way to throw a fellow colleague who is on the right side of this story under the bus, Jimbo!

Congrats to Lara Croft GO for winning best mobile/handheld game!:D MH4 would probably still be my top pick, but LCGO is really quite remarkable.

Was a great show! I was impressed at how it turned out. Really well put on by Geoff and what I was hoping a gaming awards show would become. 3-4 years ago a show like this was a complete joke, an embarrassment. last year was a great step to being more of a respectable show and this years was exactly what a gaming awards show needs to be. Honestly was as good as any of the other "Major" awards shows that I have watched in recent memory. the only real blemish was the misstep on the Voice Actor Award and the fact that Geoff seems to always be looking down at the ground and not really facing the camera while he is talking, he just seems uncomfortable at times. Also I don't understand how it is fun to see a DJ in concert, let alone watch one on TV. I can respect that he is using an instrument just like a guitarist or drummer, etc. but you can't even see what he is doing. It's just not good television performance material.

Again very nitpicky stuff but I was really impressed with it as a whole and I think anyone who is gamer should appreciate the kind of turn around Geoff has performed on what will now be the premier gaming awards show.

Someone mentioned the posts during the Iwata tribute were bad, so I went back to look and

hoo boy

I knew some of these people were malcontents, but seriously. Imagine being the kind of person that can't put your video game preferences aside long enough to keep from brain vomiting bile into GAF posts for four minutes.
