Why you should buy Dino Crisis 1 & 2 right now!

Every time Dino Crisis 1 & 2 go on sale there's a lot of questions asked about them. So I figured I would make a thread with as much info as I could so people can decide if they're worth their money. Hitting the highlight's of what I see are common questions.

Dino Crisis Information:
- Directed by Shinji Mikami
- Genre is Survival Horror, controlled with Tank Controls
- Dino Crisis was in part made to try out new ideas which could perhaps be later incorporated into Resident Evil. Bleeding for example was later seen in Outbreak and Revelations 2.
- Rather than pre-rendered backgrounds like Resident Evil, Dino Crisis utilizes full 3D environments. This allows the Camera more range of movement in it's fixed locations.
- Dino Crisis does not have a melee weapon in case you run out of ammo. Rather you are to conserve lethal ammo, and also take advantage of tranquilizing the dinosaurs.
- Items can be mixed together to make more items or new items.
- There is a easy mode in the game which allows you more hits from dinosaurs, more overall items, and starting with all weapons in the game.
- The game has numerous moments where you can pick a certain route to take via the suggestions from your team members. Gail will advise the more straight forward, but more enemy filled route. While Rick will advise the safer but perhaps longer routes typically.
- There are 3 possible endings to the game.

Dino Crisis 2 Information:
- Directed by Shu Takumi
- Genre is Action, controlled with Tank Controls
- I actually haven't found anything solid as to why the game changed genre's. My assumption is at the time they wanted to distance the series from just being seen as a Resident Evil clone.
- Backgrounds in Dino Crisis 2 are pre-rendered.
- Unlike Dino Crisis 1, running and gunning is the main focus of DC2. Enemies respawn in areas, however ammo is plentiful.
- DC2 also introduces a combo and point system, The higher the combo the more points. Points which are then used to buy ammo, new weapons, and other items.
- You now have a melee weapon in case you do run out of ammo. It is also used to access new areas.
- Puzzles are few and far between in DC2 unlike DC1 which features them throughout.
- You now as play as two characters (Regina and Dylan) who switch the lead role throughout the game.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
If I'm not mistaken, DC1 is best on Dreamcast, and DC2 is best on PS1?

Both games are cool. Shame they somehow screwed up part 3. Dinosaurs in space, with jetpacks? How did that go wrong?

not me
DC2 is so good. DC1 is okay, but DC2 better captured what I want a dinosaur game to be, for the reasons Jawmuncher lists.

Hoping for a new Dino Crisis with Resident Evil 6 controls forever.

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like
I might pick up Dino Crisis 2 again since I remember playing that game on PS1 but I have no recollection of the first game outside of being a "scarier" game than the 2nd game.

The Regina outfit in Resident Evil 3 was awesome.

Great games. Original Resident Evil formula that works well with dinosaurs. I think i still have my copies somewhere. I should dig them out and emulate them now.

umm , already have them on PS3 but never start them

i was thinking to play them on PC using emulator

will playing them on emulator will enhance the experience or graphics ?

and once you're done with those two mediocre RE clones, you can move on to the actual magnum opus

That thing doesn't exist, please don't mislead people.

I own Dino Crisis 2 thrice now, would totally buy it again on Steam if Capcom ever decides to release it there (DC1 only twice, because I never found a PC copy here)

Some things should just be put to sleep:

Sick pets,
The terminally ill requesting physician assisted suicide,
Dino Crisis.

in my circle of friends,at the time of the release, Dino Crisis was considered on the same level of MGS

fond memories, never played the second one though

All of the ports are solid, there's no reason to go through hoops for any version over another. However I did find the DC port to be the best of the bunch.

Don't play this unless you absolutely need to say you played every Dino Crisis game.

Emulating the Playstation games makes Dino Crisis 1 look great, since it smooth's it out. Dino Crisis 2 however due to the pre-rendered backgrounds can looks bad if stretched too far out. However the 3D models will look great.

Great opening post, however I should point out that anyone in the EU region can still set up a free PSN NA account through the store and then add credit to their account by buying digital store credit from Amazon. To buy from the Amazon US store, just add a generic US address (e.g. for a hotel) to your existing Amazon account before trying to purchase. All digital purchases will work fine regardless of what region your console is, so no need to miss out on these games if you have a PAL console!

Also, once you've started the download you can then log back in to your usual PSN user account to play them.

I really hate that DC2 didn't have NG+. Why wouldn't you include that? It's perfect for the kind of game it is.

I'm guessing Regina is your fav video game babe TC since you have an avatar of her mainly.=p

Yep, Dino Crisis 1 is awesome and I plan to get 2.

If you played it on Easy mode and sort of ignored the broken dino combat and instead focused on exploring the awesomely huge space ship and solving its inventive "Transfrormer" puzzles, it wasn't so bad!

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
I loved Dino Crisis 2. Such an awesome, fast-paced action game. Could never get into the original though.

Was the Dino Crisis 2 ending ever resolved in the Gun Survivor game? I know the third game has nothing to do with the rest of them. I just like to pretend there is no third game.

Thanks i'll add it to the OP for anyone who wants to go that route.

Do they work with PSTV?
Yes both are playable on PSTV

Only changed my avatar from Regina once and got so much flak for it I had to go back.
She is my favorite female character ever.

It's very loosely resolved.
Gun Survivor takes place after DC2. Regina Does go back in time and save them. From there they're still trying to stop the time anomaly's and dinosaurs. That's all the resolution you get. It sucks.

At least there was some kind of resolution.
It sucks we didn't find out if they saved David.

DC2 is sooooooooooo good!

I've replayed dozens of time; the great gunplay, coupled with a relatively short clear time (3-4 hours) is a winning combo.

Love the characters and tragic ending as well, that completely threw me for a loop when I first saw it.

If Capcom has any sense (and this is a stretch, mind you) then after they are done with the REmake2, they should make a new Dino Crisis (or heck, remake the original, remakes are the hot shit nowadays) on the same engine as RE2 is getting remade on. Eat into that Jurassic Park revival pie.

Guess it would depend on how far back she went. With time travel anything is possible. Main reason why the series jumping shark sucked so much. So many things they could have done with the already established characters.

I would, but Capcom refuses to put it up on psn (AU)

Didn't know it wasn't available there either.

The rumor of a Dino Crisis reboot was never debunked. However there sure hasn't been much in the way of murmurs for awhile now sadly.

Came in expecting a jawmuncher thread. Wasn't disappointed.
Don't forget Dino Stalker/ Gun Survivor 3 (?) !

True Dino Stalker is another DC game that really doesn't need to be played by everyone. Will recommend it before 3 any day though.

I don't know, man, Can I put them in little balls and battle other dinos with the dino I just caught? thats what I need to know to make me jump in
