Hey FitGAF,

Been away for a bit. But i come back with great news lol. My bench goal has been to get 350lbs. I finally Got it! Words can't express how great it felt to achieve this goal. Since i had a slip and fall accident messing up my Hips and Back, I can't dead or squat anywhere near as much as I once used to. Actually I'm not even cleared to squat yet, so the bench and OHP are the only big lifts i can really focus on.

Anyway, here's the lift

Wow, dude. I think you have a lot more in you. Great job!

Quick question guys. On my cut, If I absolutely run into a situation where I eat excess calories can I just subtract those from my next day? I know that's pretty meticulous, but it's already so hard, I don't want to undo anything.

Pay attention to your weekly average, is what my experience says about that.

Doesn't apply to cooter's protocol because I can't really make heads or tails of it lol.

I personally wouldn't try to make up for it the day after. If you're in a cut and you've gone too high on calories, the chances are (unless you went crazy) then you just hovered around maint level anyway. Even if you did, chalk it up to a cheat day and just get back to it.

Of course, you could choose to fast for 24 hours if you were feeling really guilty. ;)

I think its probably around 2 months or more. I get like a 6lb thing from costco so I have plenty. I also use it for breakfast because my current schedule doesn't allow me to really cook breakfast these days.

6lbs lasting for 2 months is pretty good all things considered!

Raw eggs yes but not so much for protein since uncooked proteins won't break down as well as cooked but it sure as hell adds a nice richness to the shake :D

Aren't you afraid of contracting salmonella poisoning :(

Thanks Bros. and that's a big mile stone on bench, Jack. Nicely done!
Thanks dude!

Dude. 300 is yours well before end of year!!!
I hope! Working my ass off to hopefully attend PSX this year so I'll be working double time to see if we can get on board. Gonna keep at it tho!

Aren't you afraid of contracting salmonella poisoning :(
Salmonella is on the shell, not the egg. I've been eating half-cooked gooey goodness my whole life without issues. A nice runny over easy egg on a burger is insane, too. That sweet, sweet yellowy goodness!

Also. More PB and Co just arrived!!! Awwww jerrrr!

Holy shit! Thats insane! Very well done :O

And followed on Instagram.

Fit-gaf, novice question here.

Total, total newbie to the gym. Started this week and my arm muscles are sore af, how long am I meant to "recover/rest" for?.

Sick! Attending as absinthe or jack??
Abs in the games XD

We will see if I make it cut. If I do I'm going and if not, then I just keep plugging away. These damn events cost a shit ton when the only funding for your game is your day job, lol. Trying to not crowdsource, just saving and paying my own way with contracts.

I see how it is, since you're not cleared to squat, you'll just bench what some of us can't even squat.

After reading about how much (or little, rather) you guys use protein supplements, I've shifted my diet. No more supplements, a hell of a lot more chicken. The right sauces, spices, and toppings and hopefully it'll be tolerable in the long term.

ALL THE MEATS!

I just prefer food but do indulge with making some huge ass mutli-ingredient shakes a couple times per week.

General rule is to not lift the same muscle group on consecutive days (there are exceptions). You will be sore for longer than 24 hours though. DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) are a completely normal response to lifting.

Well I would too, but my body simply cannot handle milk or large amounts of any dairy product. I tortured myself with it for months but I can't do it anymore. :(

I pretty much rely on chicken. I do red meat, but I don't tend to cook as much of it (that'll probably change again soon now I have space to use my slow cooker again).

The key is knowing how to cook though. Even with the notoriously poor lifter tastebuds, grilled chicken can be too much for most after a while.

Cool, will keep that in mind thanks. Was thinking arms two days in a row was okay with a break after, guess not.

Well, I didn't think the day would ever come where I would have "visible" abs, but it has arrived. Since my last post, I've lost about 5 more lbs and I've added some strength to all of my lifts. Not sure if my lower abs will ever be visible due to my loose skin, but I'm pretty proud of my progress. I want to thank all the regulars in here who have given me great advice just by posting. Anyway, I think I'm sufficiently intoxicated to post several shirtless pics of me awkwardly attempting bodybulding poses on the internet.

I've drastically cut down my red meat and pork consumption, much to my dismay. There's just been a lot of talk/research about their consumption and the link to certain cancers. I wonder what fitgaf's take is on the subject.

And in other, also depressing news, my OHP is stuck again at 125 and I can't seem to get any leeway on it. Anyone know any exercises I can add to help out with that?

That 350 went up smooth, with excellent form. Are you doing any program now or just improvising?
I wasn't really following any known program per say, just been doing a variety of exercise to try and hit the muscle groups in different ways week to week. Now that I'm starting to cut I'm following a simple lean body program that has yielded me results in the past.

A little while ago I posted a vid if me doing 315 saying that my goal was to get 350 using the same slow controlled rep that I did at 315. I restarted my bench focusing on a 2 second negative to promote solid form. So it's nice to know it paid off.

Lol. Not being able to squat our dead as much as I bench really hurts my ego, even though I know it's because of injury. I used to squat 5x5 with 350. Now 275x5 is killer for me and leave me in to much pain to bother. My deadlift is back up to 300 at least, but I was at 425 (I was a late Bloomer on dead lift).
It still sucks though.

Don't try to make up for it, it can lead down a slippery slope.

There's a correlation... but it's a tiny effect in reality.

However, I still just can't get past the old science that says it's generally bad for you. If they ever come out with info saying chicken is bad I'm going to have a full on meltdown.

Wednesday morning weigh-in: 166.4. I'd also already had coffee and water because I was basically sleep walking after being up 3:30-5:30 with my son, so maybe nick a few oz off that. I'll call it half a pound down since Saturday.

So happy, I was finally able to do full bodyweight dips for the first time today.

I did some light reading on it and I feel like if you just don't eat it excessively it mitigates the possibilities of obtaining cancer from it. You can still eat it, just practice moderation and you should be fine. Besides cancer has a lot to do with genetics too. Not just what you consume.

Having looked at it, I don't think it's a good idea. In the demonstration vid he immediately hits his chest on the front bit and I'm not particularly broad, so I'd probably need to be even closer to the rack than he was.

Definitely thinking of something standalone. Something a bit like this:

Damn, he even bumps his head on the upright, hahah.

I've been using rings for dips, but was thinking about the matador anyway just because I'm usually too worn out to be very stable by the time I get to it. Hadn't seen the video before for some reason... And now it's right out.

How is Rogue for returns? Maybe give the attachment a shot since it takes up WAY less space. They sort of owe you one after all...

I bought a standalone for about 40 bucks on sale on Amazon. No mounting. Easily taken apart and slid under a bed for space. Looks cheap but it's fairly sturdy. 225bw + 45 for dips and only slight give:
https://www.instagram.com/p/BCjBBjwxYC_/

Edit: since you have a rack now just buy some 2" pipe and screw it together with 90 degree connectors to make a rectangle. Lay that across the bars on your rack and dip :D

Sorry, I meant Psycho...but I'm checking out Amazon now because of your post.

I was actually going to ask if you built one into your garage walls, but $40 isn't bad at all.
I was going to but this price was good enough for me XD

Still haven't gotten around to building a shrug bar but I'm working on salvaging some scrap pipe.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOVBOwbqcT8 Healthcare Triage uploaded a pretty good video about it.

The 18% or whatever percent increase is just relative risk, not absolute risk. Your risk of cancer is 5%, just for argument's sake, from daily consumption of (non-red and unprocessed) meat. So 18% increase of your already 5% is 5.9%, therefore your chances of cancer from eating red meat and processed meat is increased by 0.9%. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you're already exercising, eating well, and not smoking, you're already doing better than the rest of society. Just need to be lucky to not get cancer.

Because of shoulder problems I can barely do dips, not even weighted dips, normal dips. Hard mode isn't an option for me right now, probably never will be.

Aw bummer man. Was gonna say with your rig you could just hang the rings straight off the pull up bar.

I've used the matador, wasn't a fan. I found myself banging into the rack repeatedly.

I feel like something closer to this would be ideal:
