Pretty sure that's a pic from filming the final battle of Force Awakens, but the caption is noteworthy in that it seems VIII is officially wrapped now (that is until news of reshoots causes the internet to go dumb).

Yeah she changed clothes at the end and her hair is the same, I doubt she would go back to her rags from Jaaku.

Nice pic though

Awesome. Seems like filming has finished with no major problems then. Congrats to them, exciting stuff. Can't wait for this weekend.

Was getting caught part of your plan?
I will be shocked if Episode 8 doesn't have the expanded version of the flashback sequence where Luke's school is wiped out.

I'd really like Ben to be given the same flashback treatment Rey got in TFA because I'm just so curious what his upbringing is like that led him there. I mean, it's probably a little obvious considering his parents probably wouldn't really fare that well for his childhood considering their careers but I'd just like to have a better peek. Granted, they probably have to do some leaps of facial CGI for that stuff to in terms of Han, Leia, etc.

One thing that I'm really looking forward to finding out more about though that's come up very recently - and this is spoilers from the new SW novel Life Debt and potentially the future movies as well - is
what the hell Palpatine had been trying to dig up in Jakku the entire time the rest of the films were occuring.

Been watching Clone Wars 2008 for the first time lately. Recently passed the Mortis arc.

I desperately need to see Luke
grab/deflect a lightsaber blade with his hands
.

Yeah it's good to know they actually made a solid SW film. Totally rewatchable.

Assuming that episodes VIII and IX are good, how will Disney deal with marketing the prequels? You know Disney's going to want to rerelease these films in marathon packages into theaters in the future.

They can split it per day. 3-3-3

I know a few theaters that manage those amount of films like that in such an event.

That'll be interesting how this all pans out. Lucas has often tried to claim that the disparity in quality between the prequels and the OT boiled down to aesthetics and available technology. But many are of the opinion that TFA is enjoyable with repeated viewings.

For me, everything rested on the quality of the acting and writing, and TFA delivered well in that regard, so much so that it feels more in line with the OT than the trilogy. If TFA is to be the status quo in terms of tone, then the prequels are going to become increasingly marginalized with each new installment, as well as the overall accretion of time.

I don't really see that being the case. Like them or not, the prequel universe has been made incredibly ingrained into the Star Wars culture in the past 16 years, especially with the popularity of Clone Wars and to a light extent, Rebels. Not to mention those films themselves still defined a younger generation of SW fans like myself. Even though I see them as objectively sub-par films now, they were the talk of the town amongst my generation when we were kids. Even now, some of those same people think fondly of those movies and, believe it or not, not in an ironic way like me.

Hell, it's pretty telling when people actually clamor for more of that universe when it comes to Dice's SW Battlefront content.

Honestly think the opening of TFA, up to the end of the tie fighter chase, is probably the best opening act of any SW film, the pace is phenomenal.

I'd even say the Escape from Jakku sequence is a top 5 sequence for the entire franchise. It's just so perfect.

Yep. That and Poe and Finn's escape. The bit where the TIE leaves the hangar and JW's music comes in gives me chills every time.

I think ANH and ESB have much superior beginnings.

I'd probably say ANH has the best opening, then TFA and then ESB. The Star Destroyer coming in to view and Vader's entrance probably won't be topped. Though I thought TFA came pretty close.

I think ESB opening is a very close second and in some ways better than TFA (Better spectacle, more emotionally investing given we knew the characters), but pacing wise TFA's opening 20 minutes is just absolutely nailed on for what it tries to achieve, and its arguably the most important part of the film, in the opening 5 minutes you are sold on Poe and Kylo and the tone then after that sold on Finn and Rey, its a monumental undertaking. I think once they get the Falcon the pace really calms for a while and its arguably the weakest section, then picks up at Maz base, probably a necessary calm.

Yeah too bad about the rest of the movie
Uh.. What's wrong with the rest of the movie? Jakku is one of the best sequences of the entire franchise as well.

It's got us problems like any other film but this bullshit is getting tired.

Man it really became the new try hard hipster thing to hate on TFA shortly after the huge success and praise it initially generated.

There's a thing that I've been thinking about for awhile now, probably needs a name like the Theory of Star Wars Continuum or something, but that you're gonna get this with every single Star Wars movie no matter what. Because the fandom is so large and all encompassing, there's going to be some subset of fans that take issue with the movie in some way no matter what it is. Some subset is always going to be looking to the next one to fix the wrongs of the previous movie. The next movie is always going to be the "real" Star Wars movie that fans are going to want. To the extent that what a "real" Star Wars movie is supposed to be ends up losing meaning (kind of like discussions about what a Star Trek movie is supposed to be. Huh.).

Didn't like Phantom Menace? Don't worry, Attack of the Clones is a way better action movie and moves along at a better pace. Didn't like Clones? Don't worry, Revenge of the Sith gets back to the emotional heart and grand space opera the series is supposed to be. Didn't like the prequels? Don't worry, TFA is the breezy, nostalgic old school adventure flick you've been waiting for. Didn't like TFA? Don't worry, Rogue One is the gritty, adult movie you want and/or VIII is the new, dark middle chapter that isn't a shoddy remake.

Get ready for this same conversation to happen in perpetuity.

Yeah, you got me. Everyone who has problems with TFA is obviously a tryhard hipster or some shit. You saw through our clever ruse.
