Final Fantasy XV - 30 minutes of gameplay (Japanese)

Here's 30 minutes of Japanese voiced gameplay.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpFD6Hcx-Fc

There's also some new scenes, like aerial combat after 31 minutes.

Note that some footage is again XB1, and some is PS4, so half of it is rougher than the other.

For example foliage has a bit better LOD here on PS4:

EDIT: There are big script changes in the localization, it appears.

The scene with Iris plays very differently in the JP script compared to EN localization.
It has whole different dialogue and motion capture too.

Japanese version subtitled: https://vid.me/0ywL
English version: https://youtu.be/gje2nTPERAs?t=49m50s

It could be there might be a dialogue choice screen that has been cut, so not confirmed yet.

EDIT2: Dmax3901 confirmed that this difference is because there is a dialogue wheel option.

Interesting to see the differences in both versions, the trees and foliage in the Xbox One version looks horrifying. Looking forward to November when we'll see what the final PS4 version of the game looks like.

The AA creates some black fuzzy outlines...It is really off puting, and even on the PS4 version makes the game look worse than it should. SE need to fix their AA.

Also, I can't understand why they are showing more Xbone footage in Japanese footage of all things. It doesn't show the game in a flattering light and is not going to be the version most people purchase...They should have just put out two videos, one of each version, rather than this weird hodge-podge.

I'm looking forward to the game but the IQ feels utterly bizarre.

Then again, if it's fun then it is fun and that's what matters. I feel sorry for Tabata and Co that they have this DLC planned because they all deserve a long vacation. The way he talked about a PC release (wanting to implement all the tech they developed but had to scale back or cut for PS4/XB1) makes me think he would want to be in charge for the port.

The man is nothing if not dedicated.

This is his first major major project right? In away, his career and reputation as a developer rises or sinks with this game.

I'll crosspost this from the ATR thread.

NovaCrystallis posted this on twitter:

They are still working on it. Currently FFXV runs at:
PS4: 900-1080p at close to 30FPS.
Xbox One: 756-900p at close to 30FPS.

The 756 part makes me wince.

They also said they'll be polishing up the trees and shrubs so they won't look like they're from an N64 game anymore.

It's good (and depressing) to know that Prompto in the Japanese version is a lot more concerned about the fact Noctis is kinda. on. fire. Some of the English localisation choices for FFXV have been really frustrating.

In the end resolution doesn't matter, it's about IQ, right? I recently played the titanfall tech test on Xbox and PS4 and I could barely tell the difference between the two and Xbox was running st 720p. The 720p Xbox version looked very clean and crisp.

In FF15s current state, the game could be in 4K and still look sub HD if anything five feet form the player is obscured by blurr. I'm looking forward to this game greatly, but it's a shame they stuck to tech that just isn't compatible with our current consoles.

Gonna cross post this, since the other thread might not gain as much traction:

For a clear look at the newer build it'd be from:
10:12 - 12:45
15:20 - 16:30
27:56 - 28:28
31:14 - 31:32

The older (presumably, hopefully) gamescom build for ps4 are:
28:30 - 30:46 (yes I think the fishing is part of the older build)
31:34 - 32:08

All the other gameplay (not cut-scene as I can't tell which builds those are from tbh) is from the xbox one gamescom build.

The newer build has less Lod issues (though not perfect) and better IQ. Its especial apparent when they switch from chocobo free riding to chocobo racing

I feel that the IQ at least on the PS4 version seems noticibly cleaner than the Duscae demo. The problem is the LoD, especially when on chocobo and in the car is really poor. Well it was probably just as poor in previous demos, we just didn't have the option of fast travel.

I think so? I mean obviously he was involved with Crisis Core (seems to divide opinion regardless of Genesis) and Type 0....I think he'll gain a lot of respect from people at SE for managing the project to completion and considering some games become bloated and the like nowadays it's a relative marvel that he was able to work with Nomura and Co to restructure it into something that could be done in one title while he has hinted at the universe expanding with DLC, smaller games and the like.

That said if the game is just utterly awful, in gameplay and technical sense, then yeah no matter how much drive he has had will help him. I know a lot of the tech in XV is really impressive and in the Luminous Pro Engine too, but it feels like the console release might not be the best showoff for that.

Hopefully he can pull it off. I'm someone who really enjoyed Final Fantasy 13 and from what I see there's no way this can be worse than that. So I'm still really excited for this game, it's style, and it's tone. I would love to see it succeed and have him head more final fantasy games.

.... if this is a dialogue choice moment, im gonna be very cross with you...
Watch both versions be in the game...........

It could be, I mentioned that possibility in OP.
But they did show the wheel in other parts of the video, so strange if they cut that here.

Heh, I enjoyed XIII too. I'd be interested in a wholly Tabata directed + concept game, but then again from what I heard of Type 0's story it sounds like it goes kinda crazy. Don't know if he came up with the scenario for that.

Sad to see a FF game in bad shape regarding to image quality.

Even if they improve it for the Neo, millions will play this version and it's just frustrating to me how unnecessarily bad it is.

Wow...that isn't even funny anymore... Additionally the Xbox version runs as low as 752p resolution at times. Come on, other developers can have both versions look good too. :/

Another comparison. Open both in new tabs and click back and forth:

Holy shit

lol I need to take a break from gaf, I dunno why people like you play games

If you're gonna quote me can you at least quote the whole statement. I'm not saying the Xbox One version as a whole is terrible, I'm saying the trees and shrubs look terrible. This has been pointed out by many posts in the original Gamescom footage thread and anyone who is just looking at it. Also it's clearly something that needs to be touched up since the developers came out and say they'll be polishing stuff like that up.

I'm not some guy who's combing through videos for FFXV looking for reasons to shit on it. I've been excited for this game since 2008 and I can't wait to get my hands on it. However this isn't gonna stop me from pointing out stuff that looks bad and in the case of the Xbox One version of the game the trees look bad. FFXV looks rough in some areas and good in others.

Just because I point something out like that doesn't mean I'm some fun-hating graphics-nut.

Looks like a PS3 and PS4 comparison of GTAV.

At first i thought you were just being hyperbolic in your post but....looking closer at it....yeah...we have another grass gate on our hands.

XB1 version looks blurred to hell compared to the PS4 version and the amount of shrubbery and plain detail missing from that build is just unfortunate. I wonder how the NEO version will turn out

When I played there were dialogue options with iris, you could kinda tell her off for being too friendly or just kinda keep it friendly.

lol

Anyway is anyone surprised by this? Xbox One is weaker than PS4 and it's obvious SE will put in much more work on PS4.

I have yet to see a multi platform title that looked that different on Xbox and PS. Not only is there such a huge gap in LOD but the Xbox version runs at times just in 756 resolution.

Pardon my usual skeptism towards the game, but I would be more inclined to agree that it's fun if this piece of action were actually part of manual gameplay mechanics rather than being a portion of an elaborate context sensitive parry thing. I mean sure it looks cool, the animation choreography was well done, but purely in the context of gameplay mechanics, it's really a glorified QTE.

It's a case of press A for awesome.
