Some of this sounds REALLY good, but I'm afraid of it just having too many features.

Will still probably give it a try. I hope it can look as good as Unity did on PC. I didn't play Syndicate, but everyone says it was downgraded. Understandably so, given how Unity ran on consoles, but now that we have PS4 Pro and Scorpio, at least the highest settings should be able to look that good again.

Who's on the front of the cover?
Who's in the part of the game with the most content?
Who's in part of the main reason people buy the game?
Who is being completely hidden away as a secret marketing gimmick?

I'm so tired of Ubisofts reluctance to include women in their games. If it's not a Vita game or a DLC spinoff, it's only half of a game while being hidden away in marketing.

What exactly would change if the MC was female?! There are other games for you to enjoy with a "strong" female lead. Some people are never satisfied.. Jesus..

I don't think this is them having "too many features" but rather most of these being responses to the criticisms of previous games.

I don't understand why running isn't always set to analog speed control for every game

Reading the article, thats literally the question the developers asked themselves.

"Why are we doing this? Is it because its a legacy feature? What does it actually add?"

Haven't properly played an Assassins creed since 2, which is my most favorite game of all time, easy. I want to finish the story that's left hanging since the end of brotherhood but every time I put in revelations, I wanna blow my brains out. The tower/town defense formula is fucking dull.
Should I give it a shot or just watch the story on youtube ? I remember the present day/Animus stuff in revelations being kind of interesting, is it worth putting myself through torture ?

Just watch the story on youtube... but honestly, I don't think it's necessary.

Honestly though, this is probably going to be a hard refresh of the modern day

You're right, they don't seem like a regression at all, but it still sounds kind of bloated. Inevitable with AAA games, I suppose.

Did Syndicate have the microtransaction chest thing as well, or is it gone already?

Ignore everything and just play this one. Or play Black Flag, in case people end up not liking this one very much.

Tower defense was a one time only feature in Revelations and it can technically be completely ignored.

FFS finally true analog speed control.

FINALLY!

I don't understand why running isn't always set to analog speed control for every game

Honestly, I always enjoyed AC having walking as the standard movement speed. Just made the whole thing more believable and immersive. But, of course, it was originally designed to tie into the whole social stealth stuff that AC1 was pushing and the games haven't really been doing much with that concept for a long time (which is a shame because it was always a brilliant idea and could be something really special given the right execution). So yeah, I may be in the minority but I'll definitely mourn that feature.

optimized on Scorpio ? Arent all games going to be optimized on Scorpio?
'Optimised for Scorpio'. What does this mean? No enhancements for PS4 Pro at all?
Sound like it's going to have a marketing deal with MS, so they are going to market it as made with Scorpio in mind. But Scorpio didn't exist just after the ACIV release that is when this game was started to be made.

It's very likely that it will just mean that it's going to be native 4K in Scorpio and checkerboard 4K in PS4 Pro, with a few extra effects for Scorpio originally planned to be high end PC only settings that may not be in PS4 Pro. PS4 Pro would get the typical benefits over PS4 and XBO seen in many games.

They mean it's the marketing partner.

Marketing brother.

Ah right lol

This. It just seemed like they reworked the combat system and made a world that is closer to Assasins Creed 2. Nothing seems overly new in concept. Aside from the RPG leveling system and Heat actions.

Honestly the description just made me think Zelda x Yakuza with Assassins Creed's commitment to Historical Tourism. All of those series are reasonably congruent and should be natural fits.

Great, great bullet points (no sarcasm). Really hope it comes together: Ubisoft needs something that overdelivers.

I'm an occasional AC fan (Black Flag and Syndicate were both very good), so I'll definitely be looking forward to this.

So this game is going to get similar settings to my geforce 1080 ti settings ? I doubt my machine would be able to do 60fps/4k either on this game with max settings. That would be pretty fucking impressive for a console.

Any talk on actually having a Brotherhood system similar to Brotherhood(recruiting, training etc.) or properties/estates? I like the sim aspects of both, personally.

Oh sorry! Have you never played the AC series? Basically after AC2, they churned 6 sequels very similar to it year after year. They pretty much all had the same awful mechanics and dogshit narratives, which was frankly already rote by the end of AC2. Yet somehow people kept buying them! So I can only assume those consumers are children and/or dullards...I think that's a fair assumption.

This game sounds like it could be the is the first one since AC2 to actually have some pretty cool changes to the mechanical formula. Yet you seem to blindly ignore all that and shit on it because you have some wild expectation that Ubi has an obligation to provide Female&Male protagonists for all the games they ever make ever! From now until infinity! To me that looks like an irrational stance you have taken in a misguided attempt to be progressive.

I would just like to let you know that I think this game looks far more interesting than anything the series has put out for almost a decade. So if these rumours are true...and if you have somehow managed to endure the last 7 games (wow, did you really do that to yourself? God bless your cotton socks)...then you're probably doing yourself a disservice to bow out of the series now. But hey, I respect your political stance and I hope you continue to boycott any game that doesn't have a non-male protagonist playable. I'm sure the AAA market will get the message. I'm also sure game writers will be thrilled to find out they have to yield to the demands of an outraged pseudo progressionist if they want to make a story that is socially acceptable in the 21st century. I mean I think we can all agree on the fact that creative people should always be given strict rules to adhere to...After all, a safe stance, is a fun stance.

Unfortunately, I agree.

To be really honest I was never that interested in the actual gameplay mechanics of the Assassin's Creed games. I was interested in the idea That AC1 tried to achieve, which was letting players figure out missions on their own in a sandbox environment. AC1 however just wasn't all that deep. The different stealth mechanics were the same in all three cities and got kind of repetitive. The combat of AC games has never been great either. The only thing that worked as advertised was the climbing. AC2 more or less gave up on the systemic sandbox idea but used the same controls and building blocks to make more heavily scripted missions and that at least worked. There were some new sandbox mechanics but they still felt extremely "gamey." AC2 had a really unique setting with well-realized characters though so Ubisoft stuck with it for a while, annualizing the franchise. Brotherhood was a good third act story-wise but Ubisoft also tried to make the missions even more linear in place. The stealth got really annoying for me here. AC3 didn't have as interesting a set of characters (except Haytham) and the gameplay felt a lot more boring and bloated, but the naval gameplay worked and felt a bit innovative. AC4 used that to build a really fun "Grand Theft Pirate Ship" game but also had to bolt another AC game on the side of it. Stealth continued to be boring. Freedom Cry was really satisfying thematically which alleviated the feeling of that old gameplay formula. By this point one of the most annoying things about AC was that it tried to build linear missions inside the framework of a sandbox game. Haven't played any AC game later than 4.

I heard Unity tried open things up a bit and I'll try it sometime this year. Origins looks like the first time Ubisoft is really switching things up though, trying to make the game more dynamic and open-ended like the first one tried to be. I hope Far Cry 5 gets the same treatment.

I love mini maps for a few reasons -

1) I love the items being on the mini map so I can go retrieve them as opposed to walking/driving/running, etc. down every alley, dirt road, street, etc. looking for treasure chests and collectables.

2) MGSV for example.....I hate it when you mark a waypoint and it tells you the XXmeters of how far it is but because there's no mini map, you have to constantly look at the main map in order to know where you're going as opposed to getting stuck behind a mountain and then have to walk around it.

3) To me, mini maps are the full map but only shows the area that you're in and eliminates the constant need to open up the main map.

4) Simply, also personal preference as I like to know where every collectable, item, etc. is as opposed to going nuts looking for them all or like in Watch Dogs 2 where you have to get close to the item for it to appear.

5) If there's no synchronization that opens up everything, im going to be pissed because I can see what attracted me to Ubisoft back in 2012 with Far Cry 3 is slowly going away and if that happens, I'll simply cut down the amount of games that I play from Ubisoft and in general.

6) I think that every open world game should have a mini map, not a fucking dumbass compass as this reminds me of Madden's play calling. Old and obsolete where as NFL 2K-2K3 had play calling on the full screen which was fucking awesome and way better. This is how I look at the mini map. Besides, a simple on/off option solves the problem for those who don't like it.

But whatever, I can see that for me personally, what I love about Ubisoft games is slowly but surely being eliminated. Oh well.

I feel exactly the opposite. I want to keep my attention on the actual game world. I don't want to be looking at the minimap all the time. Occasionally checking a regular map is fine. More games need to do the Far Cry 2 thing where the main character just pulls out a map that's physically in the game world. The best thing though is for the world and characters to properly communicate where everything is so you need maps and waypoints as little as possible. If the game straight-up tells you where every collectible is in a minimap, what's the point? It used to be the whole challenge was in finding that stuff. Now it's just a checklist of things you go over to (or teleport to).

Online focused space pirate sci-fi game would be really cool, wouldn't it? xD

Treasure Island, the game? I'd be there day 1. I hope it makes it into KH3.

You are oddly antagonistic towards people with different tastes. On top of being degrading for no reason.

I mean I don't understand what games you're playing that makes you an intellectual after writing this vomit.

I agree about the AC games. I didn't read the other stuff.

No way you could read one thing without the other. The whole post was straight BS.

I can't remember for sure but I want to say in one of the Ezio games, you see the previous assassins in a secret room. And I thought the Egyptian assassin was a woman, so if I remember correctly, maybe she is the secret playable character.

Anyway, all of the info sounds great and I can't wait to see it in action.

You're right. ACII.

Like I said before, it'd be dope.

loving what im reading. challenging puzzles are definitely welcome! hope they include platforming like older games in the series.

^^^ Oh shit, challenging puzzles? That's about the last thing I want...I hate puzzles.

I'm having a really tough time trying to determine what to look at and what to avoid in terms of wanting some surprises. How spoilerific is the spoiler-tagged magazine details in this thread? A lot of people seem to be losing their shit over whatever it is.
