Honestly, I have a hard time believing any gaming forum is going to be better than Neogaf was before the incident. Unless a seriously impressive "replacement" forum gets made, I'll probably just stay here on Gaf and hope it gets better. If you don't want to support the site owner, just use Ad block.
Unfortunately, this is what anger and the internet echo chamber bring out. Sure, some people are rightfully upset and this anger towards GAF has been brewing for a long time, for various different reasons and I get that. However, a large majority of the shit talking both here on GAF (by account suiciders, etc.) and all around the rest of the internet is unfounded. Some people are angered by the alleged events, but the internet seems to run on hate in 2017 so I would venture a guess that a lot more people are just jumping on the band wagon and following others to feel part of something. The echo chamber seems to have blown the allegation that started this explosion way out of proportion as well. Sexual assault or assault of ANY kind for that matter is not okay. Harassment is not right in my book. I am also not condoning any alleged behavior at all. However, from what has been reported, the situation in question is sexual harassment at the most (because assault is actually something physical) and an awkward, misread situation at the least. I think the whole thing just got way blown up and honestly a lot of people probably haven't even attempted to look at the actual facts, rather instead relying on hearsay.
I too am very sad to see the spiral this place is currently in. It is sad that so many long time posters are leaving. As someone who has been here a long time but is more of a reader than a poster, I am not known around here and don't have a huge post count. However, it is always nice to have a community to follow along with and see those frequent, familiar names pop up, so it is tough to see this happen. I had many of the same feelings as you did this weekend.
I will stick around here to follow along with the community members who are left, because like the OP I still love this place as a gaming community. I think things will eventually settle down, OT will come back and hopefully changes will be for the better. I also intend to check out other communities that start from former members because I do think they have a potential to improve on what GAF was, is and has become.
At the heart of everything, we are all humans who have feelings, emotions, thoughts, views, etc. My only hope is that we can someday let those human similarities (AND differences) bring us together and stop being so hateful as a species. At the core of it all, past, present and future GAF members are all here to partake in shared interests, which should remind us that we are indeed human.

I know the best but unpractical thing would be to choose neither GAF or the "others".Just a small forum in my local language with 1-2 posts a day. But at least it is clean. And spend the rest of my time melting in video games.

I have several video game sites in my native language...and while they are way better moderated and more clean than here, the users don't really know much about games. Heck, even on NeoGAF old Japanese PCs and some series are completely niche.

I keep seeing the words "cuck", "SJW", and "snowflake" popping up in lots of threads here since the board has been back online. It's fucking depressing seeing a once great board circling down the drain. I don't lean as far left as the mods did (I've been called alt right even though I've never voted for a single conservative/libertarian in my life) but I was always able to argue my points without being silenced. I found lots of the board members were naive and full of hypocrisy with their politics but It was still better than every other board by a long shot. I'm gonna miss GAF. I don't know enough about the individuals involved when it comes to Tyler and the allegations laid against him but the revenge porn move (seriously thats really fucked up and should be illegal) is very telling in my opinion as was the power ass grab move (fuck thats some creepy shit). I love GAF and I want this place to come back but it seems like the odds of that are pretty low. Reading threads on here now makes me feel like I'm still living with a girlfriend that cheated on me lots and I just found out about it and we are trying to make it work but its just weird cuz we both know its not going to be same ever again.
I know I didn't post as much as a lot of you who made this board great but I would love a PM with an invite to the discord channel and I really want to be a part of the new board when it comes online.

Maybe some people just want a forum that doesn't bring to mind allegations of sexual harassment, child pornography and an admin that has a terrible attitude toward women. Not to mention the handling, and content, of the response. I think the community deserves better than that regardless of where individuals choose to post.

evidently there were a number of long term users with long good post histories who enjoyed the site but nursed a grudge because they knew that if they posted that they actually love white supremacists or donnie trump the avenging tank rider, or Milo, they would get banned.
And this was eating them up inside. But not enough to leave. Because it was great to use a board not stuffed with children or pinheads or raging right wing single issue obsessives. What bad luck, that the only "all gaming" successful huge forum should have a slight progressive bent, and a moderation policy that reflected it. What rotten luck. If only it could be like 4chan where you can post anything, and still be as large and successful and on-topic!

This isnt it at all. GAF has a HUGE reputation for being elitist, ivory tower and thinking people here are better than everyone else. Make a thread saying you dislike Bloodborne or Horizon and see what happens. Its practically online bullying in most threads. That's the main reason GAF is disliked oitside of GAF.

For better or worse, even in the current tumultuous state, NeoGAF is head and shoulders above the next gaming forum in content, activity, design aethestics, and mobile app.
Have only seen it in the "The state of NeoGAF" thread and there, it was used by both "sides", the remainers as well as the leavers, so...
Granted, I'm not on reddit and the likes but that reputation hasn't really reached the other places that I frequent. Are you sure that "HUGE reputation" isn't specific to just some other certain forums? Apart from that, I can't really say anything else since I never entered those threads (I'm less into recent releases, more into older ones). The only thing that comes to my mind at the moment is the BOTW one where the guy complained that the game is too hard while users pointed out that he didn't even read the text that the game was displaying. I followed that thread for like 2-3 pages and obviously agreed with the people.

The internet has zero experience with a site that is free to join but can't be joined instantly.
It also has zero experience with a site where a ban means something. Where you can't just re-up instantly but this time with revenge in your heart.
These two things, absolutely regardless of the site content or policies, accumulate enemies who cannot believe they are not allowed to return to post whatever it was that got them knocked out. Add to that the toxic culture war politics in new America, gamer gate, and the alt-right online activism and you have a potent mix.
It isn't about the right to say bloodbourne sucks. If you state something in a new topic without backing it up you're going to get laughed at. But that isn't any different to how anywhere on the net.
This isn't about the private life of EL, and it isn't about ivory towers and unpopular gaming opinions getting "bullied", it is really only about egos and egos that have been banned whether for a week or permanently. I've been banned three times and deserved each time. Some people learn from it, but I observe most just bear a grudge. The entitlement generation online is real.

Unless something drastic happens, I'm not going to another new place. I put 10 years into GAF and will simply not let one person screw it over. If people want to leave, so be it, but leaving a place like home is hard for me to do.
As I understand it, either get into one of the discord thingamajigs and get an invite or wait for it to move out of soft launch and start actually taking applications.

So what's going with that they gave out verification codes to former GAF members who part of various GAF discords. Primarily to make sure there isn't a huge influx of new registered users at the sites launch, and GAFFers are prioritized before the general public.
I imagine in a few days, registration will be open. So sooner than later, you can join - or not - really it's up to you where you want to post.
I've always been a part of multiple gaming forums so it's no big change to me.

Signed up to talk about my favourite games with other like-minded people. As far as I'm aware that is the purpose of this site first and foremost. I don't have an opinion on the whole situation as there's not enough facts or evidence, but moreso than that I don't care. If there's an allegation, then the case can be taken to court and we can make opinions on the outcome. Until then it's just speculation.
Same here. I've been on this site forever. I'm old...lol. I've lurked here since '05 I believe. Finally gotten an account in 2011. I don't want to comment on the controversy but the fallout is really sad.
I also primarily loiter around the OT section and post like once in a blue moon. Seeing the OT section gone is weird and sad to me.
I don't wanna partake in any forum wars, I'm gonna visit whichever site that has topic of discussion I'm interested in. I do genuinely hope the best for everyone.

There will be people that step up and fill the voids of some of the OT work that is gone. That is mostly want I want to see and what I have always come here since I found it long long ago. I didn't even have an account most of the time as I posted somewhere else but I don't really care too much to sign up somewhere else where a lot of those people have been downright terrible to people with dog piles. I'd love to see that stopped here once and for all. No reason to treat people bad, and that has been happening a lot the last few days as well. Gets no one anywhere.
When this place went down over the weekend, I didn't even know what had happened. Not until Monday when it went back online. I was shocked at what was happening. This is the one place where I visited regularly for over a decade.
Whether it'll go back to its former self, I dunno. But I've already came to term that the GAF I knew a week ago no longer exist.
What I have to say is this. The community built that version of GAF for me, so it's up to the community here to build it back up again.

One thing I like about GAF is the forum theme, it's really pleasant to the eye.
Being a site owner myself previously, I love the simplicity of it all, it just works.
Aside from that this is my go to place for the latest news about gaming and/or sales and discussions about gaming in general.

Yeah, I was on the IGN boards a few years back and the GAF hate was strong there. Mostly from people banned for one reason or another. They'd be like "Goddamn Bish banned me for so and so...".

I loved the OT discussions. Despite the political shit there were tons of conversations outside of that that made that place special.
Didn't post on gaming side much. But OT? I was on that forum constantly. The soul of the site has been gutted IMO. Especially the WAY it happened.
