Something feels off about Xbox Series X unveiling , a month later & it still don't feel like a next generation console was unveiled

As much as people hated the Xbox One unveiling with all the TV , TV , TV stuff & Kinect 2.0 it still felt like something new compared to Xbox 360 good or bad. But with the Xbox Series X unveiling they was more like this is the new Xbox it play Xbox games but better than the older Xbox.

I kinda feel like this was intentional on Microsoft behalf making new console launches less of a big event & more of a biennial upgrade to fit your needs.
This could be a good thing for Xbox if they can push the message that if you buy a Xbox game you're not stuck with the hardware that it was released with .

Less about the new console generation but more about the extension of the software beyond generations.

It is anything but intentional.

MS's next gen games are 12 months late. No more and no less. Any excuses to justify it as some grand stratedgy is just smoke and mirrors. And all these threads trying to talk about porting games down are part of that smoke and mirror illusion show.

Scarlet has its 1st party exclusives delayed because Microsoft can't finish the games on schedule. This is the only thing that is real.

I mean they showed the form factor and a trailer for something probably two years away that we all suspected anyway, this wasn't like their event where you actually learn things.

Did them unveiling the console at TGA actually clue us into anything we didn't already know? Not really, it was merely a different rectangle than the rectangle we were expecting.

There's not a lot to talk about on either side because we're basically in the same position we were before they showed it.

It is anything but intentional.

I think it's just that neither company has actually revealed anything yet. We will get a much better look at the XSX at E3, and I expect a bigger blow-out of info. UI, features, games, ect. I'm not a big fan of the fake reveals so far.

And when that actually happens, it's hype time.

Exactly, I mean them showing off what the system looks like didn't get us closer to actually knowing anything, it was just a tease. There's not a lot of tangible substance to go over based upon that and we did in fact discuss its form factor to exhaustion.

We still don't know much about it. Basic and incomplete specs, plus what it looks like. That's probably the main reason why you don't feel like a new gen was unveiled.

However, I do feel it's possible that even after they do go over it that you'd still feel a bit the same way, just from the messaging so far.

It’s you OP, you can tell a lot people were actually excited about the unveiling just by the good or bad reaction we got here on GAF.
This

It's probably too early to get into more specific around release windows/specs/price and launch line ups but you also have to look at what's on the cards

Ms have shown a lot more about their next gen stuff so far than Sony have and are looking to show off a whole lot more

Sony appear to of been in hiding the last 2 years

People will spin that in so many different ways but presence is key outside of gaf and ms have a lot more at the moment.

Going to be a great 12 months as a gamer

I don't think so I think this make sense for Microsoft to have a scalable platform & it's smart of them to let the install base grow before they make games that can only run on the Scarlett hardware.

So what Sony 1st party AAA exclusives do you expect in the first year of the PS5? Seriously, what?

Well, it's better than the non-existent PS console..

The vast majority of "discussion" has been either leaks from sources of various legitimacy and fanboy sniping.

The actual confirmed info from Microsoft and Sony has been both scant and slowly and intentionally dripped.

Frankly, Microsoft has shared more actual info than Sony...and Microsoft hasn't shared much to start building the next gen hype. Fortunately that hype is about to start soon.

lol wait so everyone who clicked on that video has the same opinion as evidenced only by the fact that they clicked on the video?

No. Some “interest” or why bother clicking.

If you saw the Game Awards full reveal and have no interest you’re not watching this 2 min spot.

If you saw the full reveal, were interested, and still watched this spot your interest must be pretty high.

And if didn’t see the reveal but heard about it and watched this spot I’d say the reach of the reveal was pretty damn good.

Either way, the idea that reveal was a bust doesn’t jive with that view count.

they have committed to publishing everything on pc, which means no exclusive next gen games ever. So, going forward, xbox releases will feel more like a new gfx card series or ipad then the start of a new epoch.

With the more PC focus approach, this certainly makes sense. MS’ next gen starts once the ampere cards and flight/AOE4 is out. Hopefully wasteland 3 will be optimized to show its power for ampere cards as well. Hopefully that rumor about turning their new console into budget pc is true, would be great for many to enjoy all the customizable benefits from PC with a more affordable price point and easier set up.

womt happen, but damn i’d love a subsidised htpc.

So what Sony 1st party AAA exclusives do you expect in the first year of the PS5? Seriously, what?
Whatever they are, they would be announced soon.

And regardless of how few they might be, Sony isn't going to try to argue that they "released less exclusives to be proconsumer".

So you're guaranteeing the first games out of the gate will look better on PS5 than Xbox right since the hardware is holding it back?
i am guaranteeing that Microsoft never once intentionally decided that Scarlet would have no exclusives until 1 year after. That there was no decisions made, it was forced on them once the studios fall behind. And that anything they say to justify it is just talk.

And all the massive threads discussing game quality of cross gen games is entirely irrelevent, because since microsoft didn't plan for any of this, there was no stratedgy and there is no point discussing if it was a good decision or not. There was no decision made to begin with.

I don't think so I think this make sense for Microsoft to have a scalable platform & it's smart of them to let the install base grow before they make games that can only run on the Scarlett hardware.
The install base grow by making games that justify the purchase. You got it backwards, you make the exclusives to grow the install base, not the other way around.

And that is why MS was making Scarlet exclusives, just like Sony and Nintendo would. But the studios just didn't make the launch deadline. This fact is being repeated because multiple threads are pretending that MS is somehow porting down all Scarlet games, when the reality is that there was no Scarlet games announced, and all the games we know are Xbox One games ported up. Halo being the prime example.

Because it wasn't the proper big blowout reveal I think. This should come later, before or around E3.

I get where you are going OP, and kind of agree.
But in any case that next gen feeling you talk about will arise as soon as PS5 gets unveiled, and the bases for a more realistic comparison becomes possible.

I think you completely missed what OP was trying to say.
In any case, Sony will release maybe two or three -at the most- PS5 exclusives on launch. So probably on par with MS. Is Sony late to the party as well?

I don't think it matters until they officially show it off and tell us what differentiates it from the Xbox one.
