He is using his agenda (or what he thinks is true) and doing it in video games (which you call "it doesn't matter they are video games"....), and he is doing the same hypocritical shit but in his politics and agenda, he didn't do anything right.
I'm sorry, but targeting a group like that would make the story feel unnatural and filled with unnecessary politics which would make the story bad, BUT I do not think the story will be like that, this 4Chan rumor is bogus, because it would laughable if it was like that.
Honestly if true, it seems like an a story from an american point of view that is concerned with some of the fundamental forms of christianity existing in the states and the social issues it's causing in the country. And like all stories it's amped up to make a point and it's actually interesting to have such tales in video games now. People have to accept that with video games evolving, it's narratives will too and most great movies except die hard are about societal conflicts and the power dynamics of systems/people and not just Russian fucking shit up. And of course people who would not play this game just because it's a gay revenge tale are boring. And as a european, it's just plain out weird to read about all this SJW name calling, some guys really seem to have their head stuck up their butts. And yes, of course all of this is intended by Naughty Dogs.

It's not like these kinds of games are sports or shooters where if you're competitive, you got to get in on day one to make sure you level up, learn the maps and rise up leaderboards with everyone else.
When I got Oblivion on 360, I got it about 6 months after it launched. Who cares. Even better, I bought it used for $40.

As a European? Not all european people think the same dude. Yes, of course there are a few crazy SJW countries like Sweden and also Germany (and it has to be, because of obvious reasons) but a lot of countries in South, Central and Eastern Europe have a very different way of thinking. I honestly struggle to call them "Christian" as they reject most of Christian doctrine. They're more a group of crazy people wrapping themselves in religious trappings as some sort of shield. Even some of the most hardcore "Fundamentalist" groups have counter-protested them more than once.
EDIT: And, in fairness, that Punisher bit was actually due to comments by one of the actors about his own character. Whether that was just some weird internal headcanon or something cut from the show, idk, but the dude did say some weird stuff.

Remove the zombies, put it in a Rambo 1 like context, then it's a good revenge story, asking questions on how society treats people, mental health, etc. A cult of homophobes would spend time going after the small percentage of gay people that might be found in various small communities spread around a big area? Nah, calling this rumour fake. Wouldn't even say something interesting about "the last of us", like the first game, so definitely calling fake. More so, focusing overly on her sexuality would just dull the game down further. Was the focus of TLoU, Joel's heterosexuality and Ellie's homosexuality? Nah, it was barely a part, mostly mentioned as context of their relations to people.

Being against gay marriage isnt even a mainstream part of christianity anymore and was never “homophobic” to begin with. They, as a people, are more accepting of other people than any other group. People should already be skeptical of rumors posted on /V/ to begin with. Just because some legit news will occasionally get leaked on there doesn't negate that 90% of the rumors the get posted are bullshit. Even when leaks have validity, some details are often mixed up or end up being incorrect altogether.

Like it's crazy if people feel free to do whatever the fuck they want, everybody has a pension, free healthcare and there's good public transportation.
