Appreciate the perspective, I have not played the game nor do I plan to.
Its hard to imagine anyone who takes pleasure in slowly killing someone be portrayed as good guys. Nothing justifies torture.
basically this is how it works - Abby is (imo) more fun to play as than Ellie for one. I realize why they made her ripped now - it’s because she plays almost exactly like how Joel played. And Abby’s story is way less one note - it’s express purpose is to get you to sympathize with her character. Which makes the narrative parts of her story a bit more interesting, there’s more people involved and it’s less one note. They actually give her a similar arc to Joel in the first game - a pretty big chunk of it even has you running around with a kid and the interactions basically mirror Joel and Ellie. They throw in better weapons and enemies as well. I almost wonder if they started out wanting to just make this separate story and then decided to tie it to the first one by making it connected in the way it is. Either way you gotta play as her for quite some time and her entire story is a redemption arc so.
