The cool thing about GAF is that OP is still allowed to make this thread even if, as most replies above yours show, the vast majority of users disagree with him. Instead of banning him and promoting an echo chamber where only one opinion is accepted, the people you just called a joke took the time to explain why they disagree.
But this is getting off topic so no point in discussing any more in this thread. I'm just saying, if you want a place where you'll never a see a thread you disagree with and the only users who are allowed to post are ones with the same opinions, values and ideas as yours, I'm not sure you'll like GAF.

To add to this... people who boulder have incredibly grip strength.
Juji mufu (a "bodybuilder") has a bunch of videos on grip strength and the gist of it is. These people have impressive (grip) strength/weight ratio.

it's a catch-22: say nothing and they get social license from repeating it in an ideological circle jerk, or pile on and give a dumb take disproportionate attention. i'd rather they bathe in disagreement because bans will often end up sending people with fringe ideas into to echo chambers that feed resentment

True, honestly this has been a refreshing experience because I dislike one place for being an extreme only to come to another place and get the opposite extreme. MSNBC v. Fox News both suck because they are two extremes. I'm glad to see so many people seeing OP for what it is. But again I don't want to push any angendas because I think for myself, regardless of what the group thinks. I have been mostly responding negatively. I made some poor assumptions about Neogaf. Offering a male/female protagonist option with identical strength and abilities, where appropriate to the game design (e.g. Dark Souls, not The Witcher where a defined character exists), makes a lot of sense and helps include more gamers. In those cases I suggest letting it go and playing as the male if the idea bothers you.
When a narrative-based game grounded in some degree of reality chooses a female protagonist, some level of awareness of the differences between men and women helps with immersion and suspension of disbelief, e.g. Ellie in TLOU using stealth, surprise, and blades in close quarters rather than punching it out head-on like Joel.
For an example of how not to do it, Joss Whedon has a history of casting skinny, unathletic 90 lb models as action heroines who beat up 6’2 220 lb tough guys hand-to-hand, and it’s never been anything resembling believable.
Of course, Joss was a Hero of Feminism for his Strong Female Characters, but only did it to sleep with all the starlets he cast. Game devs don’t even have that excuse.

Sadly, we do have to pretend it's the case in real life. I have no idea how long this current derangement will last. It feels like until we have a full on stint of communism in any given Western country, this sort of group think will continue to exist.

These may be power fantasies and tropes in games and media, but the consequences of normalizing this belief have also become a bit of a problem. There are several cases I'm aware of personally where a man overpowered a woman physically, and the questioning (even in court) is "why didn't you fight back?" or "why didn't you fight him off?"

I don't really think this is a big deal in games where there's always a suspension of disbelief that even a male protagonist could kill that many people.

I think it depends a lot on whatever other world this videogame is presenting to you. If it's an over the top action game a la Bayonetta, then sure, it's fun to play, or bloodborne, which is very much a dark fantasy game. Playing as Lara Croft or 2B was fun as the games were quite aware of the type of fantasy games they are. However, if the game is a lot more serious and presented in a much more realistic way, in a realistic world, then that's where it's jarring.
If a game goes to big lengths to be as realistic as possible and then brings along a tiny slender woman beating the shit out of guys twice her weight and size, or a huge ass woman in a world where the necessary conditions to have that don't exist, then that's where I can't suspend my disbelief, as the character goes against everything the rest of the game demands of me.
I think a better middle ground is someone like Alloy, who makes use of tools and technology aside from being pretty skilled in her moves.
