IGN Xbox executive editor :I was wrong . Past hardware DOES holds back next hardware

I thought Phil said it won't hold back next gen ?? Was Phil wrong ? He said only fanboys say it holds back next gen ????I m confused now.i trusted phil 👀👀👀🤔

I would not suggest a new project begin with the previous generation in mind. Anything that was in the works for the last few years should be released. THEN you can move on to the new hardware. TLOU 2 and GOT would have looked even better on PS5 exclusively but it would have been a major waste for all the time that was already spent on those titles. Show me NEW development on the old consoles and I'll show you something being held back.

Literally how obvious could this be. Designing a game that also has to run on Jaguar cores and rust drives necessarily means extra limitations on game world and scope. This was always marketing malarkey for hedging their financial bets and some fanboys ate it up without question.

If you are making the same exact game then duh. If you make two different version of a game that leverages each piece of hardware correctly then you are in business. Microsoft has done this before, they know how to do it. I am not sure why they didn't do that for Halo.

Lets see if phil also admits if he was wrong or not 👀🤔
It is questionable if they will cancel the Xbone version at all.
After Schreier said it's all made up it seems like they will stick to their cross gen plan.
You know what let's just give them extra time and judge the product by its gameplay, MS has to deal with the blow to their series x value proposition, not us.

Because it may not be feasible from a budget standpoint?
Halo is a bit more expensive to develop than Forza Horizon 2 yeah?

Ryan, used to think you were alright but you’re too much up their arse these days mate. Even with this tweet, I suspect he already knows what’s coming and is saying it now to save face.

Can’t even ask a exec during an interview why free to play games require Gold. None of you “journalists “do.

So split budget and still hold back the game?

What are you talking about? Who said anything about a split budget?

Its really hard to say because we dont know the scope of what Infinite is really. We know its ambitious and big but we don't know a lot of the specifics.

But I find it hard to believe internal projections would show that Horizon 2 it made sense for to use a separate team but not Halo.

This is big. If one of the biggest Xbox fanboys can admit this, then it makes all the other fanboys look borderline insane for continuing to buy Phil's lies. People swore up and down that Sony was in the wrong for daring to believe in generations, something that has been consistent since all of us even started gaming. That never sat right with me, it's delusion at the highest level. Sony were right. Generations matter and now people will start coming round.

I'm not done. Sony were also right for betting it all on Dualsense and not going with Dualshock 4 compatibility.

Imagine playing Uncharted on Playstation 2.... and so on
Thats why there are generations

I guess there are exceptions like how you can just downscale games to work on lesser hardware like Switch but when you want to push boundaries the older hardware will hold it back.

Doubt we’ll see Cyberpunk on the Switch or can we?

Wow. Good job Ryan.

See we dont need to cancel fanboys. Some of them might have the capacity to change. That said, I would be glad to see this kind of about face from our resident xbox fans who were vehement in their defense of Phil in that thread.

Fingers crossed we see this level of maturity and growth from gaffers.

Nah man not everyone shared Phil's view on generations. Many of the xFans said fuck the xbone they want next-gen too.
Naturally, they do not have a lot of affinity for current-gen and would also prefer if Infinite was this great Series X system seller.
Slowly but surely more and more people suspect that it won't be that and if MS does not cancel the Xbone version, Infinite will not be very impressive.

Only the most deluded guys thought that a shitty netbook CPU as baseline will not hold back a semi open-world game.

A trip down memory lane.
The attack of certain fans on sonys generation approach didn't age well 👀🤔😬

I'm sorry, but it's patently clear that MS is not a gaming company. They sell hardware and games, but they're not a gaming company. All of this so they can bulk up gamepass across all their platforms.

They've sacrificed their greatest IP at this gamepass alter and let a studio slit its own throat to try and make this work.

MS does not have gaming in its DNA.

I mean its pretty much common sense...Its one thing to say you're still going to support the old shit by making a game or two for it...but forcing new games to scale backwards for technology thats almost a decade old..

Its like...Well no shxt. I wanted to buy a Series X day one...I usually buy every system day one...but as someone who owns a 2080 Super and will be upgrading to a 30xx series card there is absolutely no reason for me to invest in Xbox Hardware.

Like I said in another thread if they wanted to offer fans on the old consoles something halo...Do it the same way Ubi did AC Rogue and AC Unity(And pull it off better lol)...But generations change..folks understand having to buy a new system and games, we've been doing the shit the entire time.

I really feel like the Series X might get pushed back to Spring 2021 to give them more time to actually offer something. And if it does, and they pull it off with a worthwhile offering that can only be experienced there? I'm there day one.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
Yeah, the guy got fooled by the wannabe politician that is Spencer.
Spencer still has a legion of fanboys fighting the wars for him though, and those won’t own up to how stupid it is to wish for the XSX to waste its initial years playing up scaled last gen games.

I am stilling thinking this is a false narrative. Can anyone show me a game that is currently being held back by previous generation hardware? GTA V came out on 360, PS3, X1 and PS4. It was an open world cross generational title and I don't remember anyone talking about it being held back. With the XSX MS has given 3rd parties the choice on where they want to do their software. Unless someone can show where a developer was forced to make a game on old hardware this 'held back' thing IS a meme.

Before anyone talks about Halo Infinite remember that game has been in development for FIVE years. Was the XSX a complete hardware platform with mature tools that could have been developed on five years ago?
