While it's not my personal game of the year, I can easily see this winning many awards and I don't have an issue if it goes on to swallow more.

"Because we were forced to stay home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a slow-life experience in this game in which you can do everything freely became a comfort to people all over the world," a press statement said. "Communication with close friends through the game and interaction with other players in events went beyond the bounds of a single game, and the game showed the power of entertainment from Japan, acquiring overwhelming support from many users of all ages, from children to senior citizens, in general voting, and won both the Award for Excellence and the Grand Award with unanimity.

The team behind the sim has also secured the Minister of Economy's Trade and Industry Award of the Japan Game Awards, which is given to "an individual or organisation that has made a great contribution to the growth and development of the Japanese computer entertainment software industry".

Dragon Quest Walk secure the Special Award, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare the Global Award: Foreign Product, while Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield was awarded Best Sales Award and Global Award: Japanese product. The Game Designers Award was given to Hempuli's Baba is You. [/quot]

More surprised Modern Warfare won the Global Award for Foreign Product 😱

Seems TLOU II and Animal Crossings are destined to be locked in battle this year.

I think it's daft to have any of the awards now. Unless they run the window from October to October for voting. But there are some massive titles dropping shortly - do TGS use their event date as the 'year'?

Yes. Same as MTV Brazil. Some awards will come earlier than the usual bunch in November. Some will come late in December that include games like Cyberpunk. The problem for Cyberpunk is just that, the cut off periods - which some fans of CDPR don't understand yet.

I played the DS one as a child and there was fuck all to do. I'll never understand the appeal of the series but whatever, people definitely seem to enjoy it.

Man stop coping. Everyone in this forum knows you low energy kids love that low poly apple selling simulator.
That's why I'm so hostile.
Because your bad taste is unironically ruining this hobby.
Now go play AC and visit AOC's island and exchange flowers or some shit after grinding your annoying fishing mechanic.
Leave the real games to me.
Nothink personnell kiddo

Animal Crossing is a good thing but I don’t consider New Horizons anything like a GOTY-worthy version of it.

The online is annoyingly Nintendo, the events are repetitive, boring and a downgrade from Pocket Camp’s and it still doesn’t have all the features New Leaf does.

I love Animal Crossing, but it has so many issues that aren't really excusable these days. Online being the main one. Add in that the content they're "adding" seems to be just gated timed releases of stuff they've already programmed, and it just makes me angry.

How on earth can the Tokyo Game Show compare with the prestige of MTV Brazil?

Guys, it's Japan. What did you expect? Animal Crossing is crazy popular over here.

Fear not. I'm sure all of western games journalism will shower their GoTYs on TLoU2.

Ew I think I was just a little bit sick in my mouth.

Any game can help you though lockdown, that argument is ridiculous to me. I can't believe a boring childish 'boring life' simulator is being considered for goty by adults.

Animal Crossing NH sold over 22.4 million units by the end of June while total player count of TLOU2 is only at 6.5 million players and probably sold around ~5 million units by now.

Animal Crossing NH is popular worldwide and selling at faster rate than multiplatform RDR2.

A polished game that isn't of an genere that i like triggers me so much when it win awards in japan.

Now i have to play something with "pew" "pew" so that i can remind myself i'm a rated M man.

No, it's about adults consuming games made for children when they wouldn't do the same for TV, books, etc. Surely you wouldn't spend tens of hours watching a kids TV show such as paw patrol? Games, especially those on Nintendo systems, get a weird pass from adults that tell themselves it's fun to play a game that is designed with a 6 year old as the primary demographic.

I don't care what genre I play but I do care that I'm spending my time with something that engages me either intellectually, physically or emotionally. Something that pushes and challenges me, not just press 'a' to watch a cartoon man pick up a flower or whatever... For thirty hours. Man, I'd feel my brain just dribbling out of my ear doing that.

So, stick to your boring cartoons for children. I'll play something designed for adults that is engaging and challenging thanks.

Ps. I don't care much about framerates.

You could have just summed it up with this.

Yes, I guess.

I just think it's completely pathetic and, honestly, I get frustrated at things I just don't understand. I'll never fathom why an adult would spend more than maybe an hour playing Animal crossing and, similarly, I'll never get why some men get their kicks dressing up in nappies.

I wish adults didn't buy this garbage and then Nintendo would fund games that maybe I'll like. So it does impact me in some respect.

You just wait.
