Sony is the best publisher of the decade

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment
I’d argue they’re the best when it comes to AAA cinematic linear narrative games. But their games are starting to feel a bit stale to me.

I can see why someone considers Sony the best publisher of the decade, but I’d still give it to... I dunno, Nintendo. If not just for sheer variety in addition to their games also being top quality games.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
I’d go with epic, sony prob made a fraction of the cash Fortnite racked in.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
I wouldn´t judge anything based on awards given by the media 'critics'. Most of that is marketing or just being scared of making Sony angry.

A lot of the games they publish are neat tho, like Bloodborne and God of War... Others not so much imo, but that´s subjective and a matter of taste.

Some of the comments in here...

Trying to post some garbage "cinematic games" comments directed towards a company that has Spider-Man MM, Demons Souls, Little Big Planet, Ratchet and Returnal coming out within 6 months of each other.

Take the L, sit down and wait patiently for a fraction of that to come your way. Jesus.

Eh, Sony is kinda like Ubisoft in my book.
They put out lots of games that have great production value, but that are also rarely interesting and that follow pretty standard formulas. Some of their games like GoT or HZD are even often compared to Assassins Creed. Also like ubisoft, they occasionally launch one title or another thats genuinely interesting, whose studio/developer then proceeds to get thrown to the wayside in favor of some blockbuster, or put to work in said blockbusters.

This argument only holds if you think BotW is the greatest game ever. I liked it, but I think it's WAY overrated. I could name 10 to 20 PlayStation console exclusives I personally think are better than BotW.

I could also name several Switch console exclusives I think are better too.
Its the best game of the last generation

Sony hasn't made a game this decade thats better than BOTW. So Nintendo takes that title

Also, Death Stranding is garbage. I don't listen to anyone that thinks the glorified UPS simulator is a better game than Sekiro
I remember when Nintendo fanboys hounded Jim Sterling when he gave BOTW 7/10 😁. They get really heated about anything related to that game.

Sony is really good at making story focused games. Most of them are not instant gratification/jump in and go type games.

I really like these types of games but also recognize that they dont click with some people either. Nothing Sony has made will scratch the same itch that COD does, which is totally fine.

Sonys first party studios have been on fire these last couple of years, and I'd guess that the game that started their journey towards where they are now, is Uncharted 2. After that, quality has been pretty consistent and they are showing no signs of stopping.

Their IPs are world class heavyweights, embedded to popular culture, thanks to the collective vision at Sonys worldwide studios, to always strive after the highest quality, but to also take risks and evolve their existing IPs or create new ones.

They have a strong legacy to build upon and it's an exciting future that just started with the PS5. I think we are in for another great gen with Sony.

I've become bored of the third-person story games that increasingly have their heads up their own asses, but then I realized I've been hopelessly addicted to MLB The Show the past six years so Sony got me anyway.

As far as triple-A publishers go, most of Sony's games are some of the most polished games released. Seriously, with the exception of Days Gone which needed a fair amount of patches to become less glitchy, Sony's games rarely have notable glitches that riddle the gameplay experience. Not only that, but the stories are riveting, the graphics are gorgeous, the characters are memorable, and the gameplay is thoroughly engaging. Say what you will about the "Sony formula", they know how to make a solid game. You can make cinematic games that are fun as hell and Sony is most consistent at that.

For me -

2010 - Dead Nation (8.0/10)
2011 - Uncharted 3 (9.0/10)
2013 - The Last of Us (9.5/10, my 2013 goty and my PS3/360/Wii gotg)
2016 - Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (8.5/10), Ratchet & Clank (8.5/10) and Alienation (8.5/10)
2017 - Horizon Zero Dawn (9.5/10, my 2017 goty), Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (9.5/10, #2 2017) and Nioh (8.5/10)
2018 - God of War (9.5/10, my 2018 goty) and Spider Man (9.0/10)
2019 - Days Gone (9.5/10, my 2019 goty)

Those are my 12 best games from Sony over the last decade. I know people will include 2020 but I don't. Overall, 1 gotg, 4 gotys, 3 games at 9+ and 5 games at 8+. So I can definitely say that they were the best publisher for me of the last decade. Ubisoft was 2nd.

Agree.

Uncharted, TLoU, Spider-Man, God of War, LBP, Horizon Zero Dawn, Killzone, GT, Ratchet and Clank, Ghost of Tsushima, Infamous, Days Gone, Resistance.

They have such a wide range of games spanning multiple genres with each having a distinctive feel.

I really feel like there is something for everyone.

People who don't play Sony games are the only ones that can call all Sony exclusives "movie" games. Uncharted 4 and TLoU games are pretty heavy on cutscenes but everything else on just the list I made isn't.

I would argue that their output was incredible going back to the final few years of the last decade. they really turned things around after shipping the ps3.

2007 - Motorstorm, GoW2, Uncharted, Heavenly sword, Ratchet and Clank Future tools of destruction, Warhawk
2008 - LBP, Motostorm PR, Socom, Resistance 2 and MGS4. though this was only funded by them, konami published this
2009 - KZ2, Uncharted 2, Infamous, Demon Souls, Ratchet Clank in Time
2010 - GoW 3, Heavy Rain, GT5, MAG

There are at least a couple of goty caliber titles every year starting from 2007. back then i used to be at the gamespot forums and gamespot's gotys used to mean something back then. when they gave mgs4 and demon souls goty back to back, it felt like a real shift because nintendo had won like 4 of them for metroid prime, zelda, resident evil 4, and super mario galaxy earlier than decade.

I think Sony is indeed best western publisher, delivering tightly QC controlled goods year after year. They are like MCU of video gaming - good or bad - albeit their portfolio is quite narrow in terms of genre/variety. I would love to see more experimental ones like old SCE.

If I were in agreement, I'd have a PS4. But their style of first party games does not give much to me. The most interesting Sony games for me over the last decade both released this year: Astrobot's Playroom and Sackboy. Places 3 and 4 would be Astrobot (PSVR) and God of War.
