The voice acting is surprisingly good so far - the tone fits the atmosphere, and the lines are delivered on point. Art design nailed too and combat looks fresh. Level design and how it all comes together is what's left to judge at this point. Wanna see a boss/or mini-boss fight breakdown if the story is being kept tightly under wraps.
The stealth concern rush in the first page from the usual suspects is unfortunate and not subtle either. Don't be crying Sonygaf later when folks repay in kind for games on your preferred platform.

Somehow had missed this trailer and thread. The more I see the more I like. Pretty hyped that this isn't a cross gen or cross platform title. No excuse not to focus on PS5 features and capabilities.

Cmon guys, don't show a massive damage sponge with almost zero impact visibility as the first enemy encounter in your combat video. Sometimes you watch these AA studio video ads and have to wonder if they let Danny the intern produce/edit them, reminds me of the Godfall videos where they're just fighting 1-2 enemies at a time in tiny boxes for 30 seconds straight.

While your comment is focused on this game in particular, ive been complaining about this issue for like the last two generations; developers skimping on substance and instead making everything hella shiny/explosive in an attempt to overstimulate the player and 'wow' them has been an issue. It seems like a lot of creative bankruptcy.

Why are people still acting like their decision not to buy the game is still due to the character at this point? It's a third person shooter and it's not like you're gonna see the character's face during most gameplay. And about cutscenes? Probably wont be much of that since it's a Housemarque game.

I'm not trying to establish a rep as a mouthy poster, but you guys are... Textbook shallow and really should have just not typed your post in the first place, for all the relevance it bears on the game or this thread.
I just can't wrap my head around someone who tries to make a thoughtful post out of "I'm butthurt that someone is trying to force an unattractive main character on me", neogaf deserves better reasoning than that.
As far as i can tell, valid criticism of the game at this stage:
- this is the first time that company is making this kind of game, so they may stuff it up
- any horror realism that might have been in this game seems to take a hit from the big bright resogun style projectiles.
- bullet sponge enemies might not translate from shmups very well.
- it's cyclical, difficult gameplay is derivative of From software et al, and maybe we've had enough of that (probably not though, because Hades)
- the gameplay doesn't seem to fit the weight of the story as has been presented.
Is saying the character is offensively unattractive valid? Shit no.

The people screaming about the character looking like a "Karen" are making very lazy paint by the numbers responses. Disappointing from a site with repute such as NeoGAF. The $70 price tag for the developers past history is a much more worrying sign, personally.

Honest question. Who in this thread said they aren't gonna buy the game because of the main character? Most i've seen about her are some jokes here and there, otherwise its legit complaints like price, gameplay or overall visuals, the things you yourselves pointed out.

People like them and Hades just won a ton of awards. So I wouldn’t say they’ve overstayed their welcome by any means.
I’m tired of them and was never the biggest fan, but I can just accept they aren’t for me. I’m always drowning in games to play. Not next gen games mind you, but I’ll grab Kena next onto if that turns out good to have something to play on my PS5. I bought the new consoles knowing my PS5 would have some gaps the first year or two where I don’t use it much (just like PS4 did) and my XSX would mostly get used for better running/looking versions of last gen games on Gamespot for the first year or so.
I’m good with that and have tons I want to play, so I’m not going to begrudge this game that intitially looked promising to me for likely not being my cup of tea given the genre. House Marque is a solid studio and I hope it does well for them and that fans of the genre love it and enjoy having another new game top lay on their PS5s.

Bugsnax and Allstars??
If this game sales flop, it definitely will. I'd easily buy something like their other games or sequels to them. But this looks bland and more like a $20 title rather than $70.

Bugsnax is a timed console exclusive and is already on PC, but otherwise I think you're totally right about it potentially being offered on plus. It would still be a 12~18 month wait I imagine. Just look at the ps+ collection on ps5 for what Sony is willing to give away lol.

I honest to god haven't seen anyone saying this as their main complaint. If someone does, its alongside stuff like seemingly boring gameplay, uninteresting visuals, etc. You don't need to tag anyone, just quote what they said.
