It's been pretty cold in the UK lately. I think Scotland recorded the lowest temperature since 1995 or something like that.

That's normal really. Ice age starts with global warming. Right?
It's been -10 in Poland for last few days. My limit for bike work commuting is -7 since I don't have any leggings :p

God, I hate nihilist bullshit like this.
lol, I'm more miffed that they say the china-virus (a borderline fake disease with a 1% mortality rate) is a fucking vaccine to this planet.
Nukes, on the other hand, now those could potentially be a vaccine, haha

Global Warming was a hoax. I am freezing my ass off here.

Average global increases year after versus weather. Weather can be sporadic with crazy dips and spikes, but they're looking a patterns over decades.

This is just my understanding of it, i'm definitely not climate change person

Stupidly cold over 'ere in Czech Republic. It did happen on occasion over the past few years but only for a day or two and not even every year, this year it has been an entire week now.

That is the most vague reply I have seen since the last time it snowed in Dallas. Kudos!
Look I’m not a weather expert but from experience know it’s not the first time this has happened

“We’re having a favorable pattern for this arctic air to come down,” said Allison Prater, a Weather Service meteorologist. “There’s a flow over the Great Lakes that’s just been kind of sitting there and keeps pushing down that cold arctic air.”

“Polar vortex” is a popular term that often gets tossed around during winter storms, but Prater said it can be misleading.

The polar vortex is not something that magically appears during the winter. It’s around all year long.

“It always exists near the poles,” Prater said. “But it weakens in the summer and strengthens in the winter.”

The vortex is an area of low pressure that hangs around the north and south poles thousands of feet in the atmosphere. Shifts in its position or its strength can affect weather across North America, Europe and Asia.
According to The Washington Post, this week’s winter storm and extreme cold can be traced to a disruption of a weaker-than-usual polar vortex in early January, which allowed extreme cold in the Northern Hemisphere to start moving farther south than usual.

The mistake was labelling it "global warming" when "climate change" is more apt.

The changes will result in more weather extremes at both ends of the spectrum. This is happening as a result of both our activity on the planet and the changes in the solar system as the galaxy continues to shift.

Anybody interested in this topic should look up pole reversal theory.

All my outdoor faucets are frozen. I tried wrapping them, dripping them, but when it hit 8 degrees F here in Austin, nothing could stop the freeze. I hope the pipes survive. My brother in Dallas has spent the majority of the day without power.

i forgot to turn off the water going into my sprinkler system over the winter and the water froze in the pipes and caused some ruptures.

the pipes inside your house should be fine. But it's always good to turn off the valves before every winter and then let the water run out to prevent pipes from bursting.

I pooped in the past, will plan to poop into the future. Variables like cheese intake will cause great fluctuation. Yada yada yada.

* Not a poop expert but have considerable experience
That’s fantastic, just don’t eat it like you usually do , it’s not cheese anymore .

I personally will not be taking any precautions with this snow. It's more important to drive full speed down the road to keep this economy open and anything else would be restricting my rights as a patriotic American. No I will not wear a coat to prevent hypothermia and I most certainly will not turn my heat on because I am manly and I was born with an immune system and hair on my body. People die in car wrecks every day. Freedom! /!!!! A thin piece of cloth restricts my skins ability to breathe. Say it with me now, I can't breathe , I can't breath. Not in that pussy George Floyd way though, but in a I'm very sensitive to cloth way.

Rolling blackouts are bullshit. Someone fucked up real bad and I hope all of them lose their jobs. Fucking greed man. Fucking greed.

Yeah, it's bad here in Houston. Lost power for 12 hours. Just got power back but we might get hit with rolling blackouts tonight or tomorrow. Wind turbines are still frozen and not enough natural gas supply to meet demand = rolling blackouts.

Rolling blackouts here in San Antonio since last night around 11:00 PM. Getting power turned on for 10-15 minutes at a time. Never experienced such a thing.

It is crazy, man, I was just thinking about many homeless people in Texas - some will die if no one helps them
Its the same here in KS. Was negative 15 overnight. There are outdoor cats in our neighborhood that always stop by for food. Had to buy a propane heater for the garage and heated water bowl, and let the space heater run in the garage and get hay and it was probably still like 0 degrees in there. Just saw him when I got home and he's still alive somehow.

This is bananas! Houston is absolutely not geared for this.

i, thankfully, have power. No issues so far.

really, it was quite a beautiful day in Houston this afternoon.

I hope all of those without power are getting under the blankets and staying warm. I’ve heard some estimates that over a million people are without power (and that means heat) on the coldest night in a generation.

Got quite a lot of snow here in southeast texas, below freezing here.

This is like the first time in ten years we've had weather like this down here.

I know that it's very unusual weather for Texas, but the fact that the piping isn't installed with isolation and that some people have to deal without electricity is still mindblowing. Hopefully some changes and some investements into infrastructure will be made, because if it happened once it'll happen again.
