Pretty much. I like to think of SNK as the Falcom of fighting games. Yes the visuals are a step below their peers but they make up for it in other ways. Two of them are more interesting/better characters and movesets just to name a few. Most of the people crying for Capcom vs Snk 3 are just Capcom fans who want Capcom to have access to those superior characters. If SNK made the game and used their combat style they wouldn't even fucking play it

I have, but not the 3D entries so it's been awhile. I'm sure the game could be great but it's definitely not a looker.

3D ones were Maximum impact series off-shots. Different style, 3D movement, crazy strings. Mainline games always have traditional 2D gameplay. KOF14 was 3D but it's still the same 2D game.

They looked more realistic and animated better. Kof 96 in motion was vetter than the alpha series.

I love em both. Different styles is all. Adored SNK's detailed style and Capcom's pseudo anime look.

Too bad SNK started to disregard pseudo-realism more and more after 98.

Alpha sprite felt like a downgrade from Street Fighter II IMO. As other have said, Alpha sprite is cartoony, and I felt the color seems too bright as if its was port from console to arcade.

I think they played with it mixing other styles for a while. Last Blade did a lovely job mixing it w classic anime, while Fatal Fury Real Bout Special went closer to SF Alpha with so much more polish. Real Bout Fatal Fury Special is painfully under-rated. It's a fucking masterpiece.
