Nah that is pretty normal honestly beating the bosses also makes you way more powerfull imo.
So in hind sight the areas will get a lot easier.

Still stuck near the last boss in act3. This fucking bridge.. sometimes the game just decides to fuck me over and spawn all the rocket fuckbots in that area, other times it's piss easy.
And then .. the stupid jump shit :messenger_tears_of_joy: (y)

The risk reward spin is fun. But the devs srsly need to balance it.

Nice tip,

Save up 300 obli's and go to the shop in act 1. buy 5 ether.. hoard them. and spend them at your ship. when you die. (this will make runs not a complete waste of time.)
it will add new items to your loot pool effectively making the game easier.

I had just had a good run, prepared for Phrike by leveling up weapon proficency, buying an astronaut and crafting a large health pack. Just when I was about to head to Phrike the game crashed out of nowhere.

Seriously thinking about waiting to play the game anymore until these crashes gets sorted out, extremely demoralizing.

Its a shame cause I really love the gameplay and everything. I have no problems with the rogulike aspects but having a random crash wipe a so far promising run is really, really bad.
are you using the pre-order suits?

Worst part is ascending that tower and they spawn about 3 of the big robot fuckers in the same area :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I will complete this biome by the weekend!

I keep hoping that back paddles/buttons become standard on controllers moving forward. They would be very helpful for this game in particular.
Long overdue. They probably won’t be standard until next gen but I can see a mid gen PS5 pro with a pro controller if they plan on releasing one.
Mapping jump/dodge to L1 and R1 is something I’m gonna try tonight tho.
I saw DonJorginho DonJorginho post that too. I couldn’t get it right in custom and didn’t want to mess up that run so I’ll try that again. I don’t care about trial and error with gameplay but I wouldn’t mind a guide for the systems. It’s confusing

Yo this game is awesome. Probably the best sound production I’ve ever heard in a game.

I’ve only died once (still on Biome 1) and it was a total Souls moment. I dropped into a room and some big red bastard appeared out of nowhere and wasted me in a couple hits 🤣 Didnt care.

Love the teleportation and adrenaline systems. I’m doing so good this run lol love how much you need be on your toes and alert.

I got within 2 more blasts of the shotgun of beating the first boss on my first run and now after 3 more runs I can't even get back to him :/

There was me thinking the game was easy when actually during that first run they barely throw any enemies at you.

Also, I found something that helped the feel of the game a lot:

Go into Settings->Controls and reduce the ”Right Stick Input Min” from 15%. This is for the aiming deadzone, and 15% is too high IMO. Its sort of up to your preference but i put mine at 8%.

You can change the setting for the left one as well but its less crucial. They have a lot of control settings, a very good job done by Housemarque.

Damn, the only thing I miss is at which point the adaptive trigger puts its resistance. It feels way to early, I would like to be able to customize it to kick in a little ”further in” when pressing it.

It’s completely random. I guess that’s why some reviewers took so long to complete. However long it actually takes me to finish the timer will be insanely high regardless because I’ve paused and come back after a couple of hours more than once.

Yeh in typical roguelike fashion your runs will live or die by the upgrades you get early on.

Having said that, I'm sure some youtuber will do a "no upgrade completion" run within the next few weeks and make us all look like pathetic noobs.

Game is pretty fun, but it's way too hard to see what's going on. At least in the starter area. I can't even make out the enemies and just have to look for health bars. The weapons are also really boring and generic so far.

Edit: They should have made consumables into some kind of random gear. Like I found something that made blasts when I landed from jumps. That would have gone a long way to make fun builds. I tend to never use consumables in games.

Consumables are random in this game though so I don't understand what you're getting at?

Having random consumable power-ups is a common trait across all rouguelikes.

I'd rather have a permanent effect like that on a piece of gear(i.e., blast boots or something) for a run. I don't play these types of games, so it's just how I would have done it.

The whole point of these types of games is that each run should be somewhat unique in terms of the power-ups you pick up along the way and then the strategy of when to use (or save) those items.

For example in my first run I found an instant level 5 adrenaline consumable which I saved until the boss even though it made some of the battles along the way a bit more difficult.

Some of the consumables are OP and if you could have them as permanent then the challenge is gone.

I agree with this 100%. I also find myself staring at my screen after a 5+ hour run thinking to myself I even feel like going over it all again.

Just out of curiosity, how does Hades do it in comparison to Returnal? That's been on my list of games to play, but I really hope it's not as tedious.
You return to a comforting home base with story and tons of permanent progression on every run.

How's it possible to reach the second biome boss without finding the grapple? I'm looking everywhere.

I have to beat the boss, f

There's a lot more meta-progression in Hades in comparison to this game. There's also a lot more story progression between runs.

It's too early for me to say for sure but I have a feeling that I'll look back and think Hades was easy compared to this.

Had an issue in week one and have been too scared to use since
I ALWAYS have my PS5 in rest mode, I've even lost power to it once or twice in that state. Never had a problem so far. Just saying it will probably be fine.

You don't need the grappling hook to reach him.

You actually get the hook from the second boss.

Yeah you have to beat the second boss to get it. But there was a lot of shit unreachable just before him.
Same in the first biome. That makes it more fun and more varied to replay. I'm in biome 5 now and still not able to go into the water.

There is even more "fun stuff" later on! :messenger_grinning_sweat::messenger_expressionless:

Point blank alt fire and one or two hits with the sword and he is gone.

Hades is a better roguelite game imo,
Hades can be as hard as you want it to be.
The freedom in this game is rather lacking,

But i'm a stubborn motherfucker and i will just keep on picking shit items because i love making shit picks work,

What is the best strategy after you die?

  • Should you immediately use your Ether back at the ship area to unlock new items every round?
  • Is it better to skip through the early Biomes as fast as possible and only try to explore side areas/build your character in the Biome you have left to complete?

I'm still struggling on the second Biome. Mainly because I spend about 1-2 hours exploring it (skipping first biome), but inevitably end up dying on something completely careless (get stuck on a wall or something stupid while my health is low). During my first run after I beat the boss I felt like an absolute beast because I had so many stat boosters and health upgrades. The most unforgiving thing about this game is losing all of that, so I try and rush through to the next Biome and feel underleveled and just make careless mistakes or get screwed by some jank. RNG can also be a bitch

Hades is objectively better in a lot of ways. Not sure they are comparable based on what I've watched though. Probably more comparable to a Binding of Isaac.

Now that I'm playing it I'm realising this is actually more roguelike than roguelite.

Punishing as fuck.

I finally made it to the boss in derelict ruins. That was fucking intense. My heart is like a goddamn jackhammer right now. If I die, I'll probably rage quit because it took me the whole day to just get here. If I beat him, well, yippee kay yay motherfuckers. Probably gonna shit my pants during this battle.

Yup, saw in a reddit post it might be the reason. Definitely swapping to the standard outfit now.

After getting the bug almost every run, I went back to default outfit and it's never happened since. Several runs later.

Save Ether for the reconstructor room so you can have another life.

My strategy for new biomes (assuming you're 1-3 biomes), is get the 25% integrity upgrade, check for astronaut toy in first biome. Buy both if they're there. Then go to second biome. When I 1 shotted 3rd boss, I just did a full entire run. I killed first boss and second boss, then just kept going.

The 25% integrity is key, both biomes offer it. Even the 3rd does. Get'em!

is the astronaut in the fabricator room to buy sometimes?

I really love this game but I will never see the end. I can't even get past the first biome's boss. I barely make it to the second phase. When I read there is a third phase I was like 'how am I gonna do it'?
I'm not. Eventually I will.

Really want to play but the crashes are turning me off. Think I’ll wait till fixed. Is it mostly digital that’s crashing or disc or both?

People are seeing crashes? I have a disc edition PS5 playing the digital version and have put ~7hours in and it has run like champ. But it sounds like YMMV. If that’s the case, I hope it gets a swift patch.

Game is super fun. Slow start but gets going fairly fast after your first death. Well at least it did for me.

It’s not the reason. Me and a good friend are both using default suits and have had crashes. Reddit doesn’t know what the fuck it’s talking about lol

I am so fucking done. So many idiotic design choices.

There is a boss portal shortcut. Good
It's mid way through the second World. Bad.
You still have to go through the first World every time just to get to the second world. Stupid.
The shop that sells health upgrades, resurrection stones and all other critical items you need to beat the boss is NOT at the boss portal shortcut. It's much much further into the second World so you basically have to replay the entire level hat to get to the boss with decent items and weapons.

Moronic.

You keep nothing. You don't keep your weapons. Your artifacts. Heath upgrades. Weapon levels. Mods only get added to the loot pool after you unlock them. What? Let me modify.

So many runs are ruined by rng. One only had malfunction chests. One had me go through like ten rooms just to get to the second world. Screenshot below.

I greatly dislike how chests spawn enemies. I just killed s bunch of enemies don't fuck me over by spawning more when I'm low on hp and can't escape.

That and being attacked right after using a healing "bed."

i am going through the same thing since last night. beat the first boss with no problems. then have wasted almost 6 hours on this second boss. have only fought him twice because i also randomly die. those damn turrets are the worst.

i just use the first world to get some health but thats it. i am not going through 75% of the level jsut to get to the shop so i can buy the integrity upgrade. especially when the weapons dont level up beyond 5.

i cant believe they thought spawning you with a handgun everytime was a good idea. i have to fight those flying mantis enemies in world 2 with a level 0 pistol. like wtf.
