I had hoped next-gen would put an end to the low quality copy pasta speedtree foliage, but I suppose it is technically still a PS4 game. Maybe UE5.
I’m sure this is the DLC from the first Horizon lol or looks identical. Anyway copy paste will be a thing for years.

How do the waves look? I'm unable to watch the stream at the moment ( hate the phone for this)
Not as impactful as the original trailer, I would have to say. Bad angle and a tough angle to judge though. You can see motion of waves rolling in, but we can't really see the curl that we could see from the first trailer...

Nope, they just cut to a better angle and waves look awesome. Rolls up on the beach, reflects the night, washes my fears away...

...But, why? That's how folliage is made. There's nothing about UE5 that will automatically make forest-building a different process or even necessarily a higher quality process. (Nanite is about a micropolygon mesh, but when you're talking something like folliage, that's not necessarily the solution. It also cannot currently handle full motion right now, you can move a Nanite element but it still must remain ridgid.)

More than graphics, which Guerrilla always deliver on, I’m interested in what they are changing with the gameplay

Hopefully they reboot the melee combat.

And make the world and gameplay a lot more dynamic from a physics stand point. I’m not saying rip off Breath of the Wild. But yeah, basically do that

I’d also be interested if they take it down a much deeper RPG route

Wow, it really does look so much better on the Twitch stream. I had to check for myself. Huge difference from Youtube!
Yes, its alot better on Twitch. Same 1080p, but the quality is just better.

But I'm patiently waiting for the 4K clip to be uploaded later.

Folks, watch this on Twitch.

Christ, this looks beautiful.
This and the beach shot....whew...

They should just sorta copy Kojima's climbing rope anchors from Death Stranding, but let Aloy shoot them from her bow.

Walk up to cliff face, shoot anchor up into cliff, rope falls down, climb up the rope.

Kojima got player placed rope climbing to work in DS, and it'd work perfectly for exploring and climbing. And fits Aloy's focus on using her bow.

It does look quite a bit like the first game so far - but that's a good thing. Sony exclusives tend to have very good art design and direction, and a very clear artistic style. You can see they put a premium on that. I was really impressed with HZD's visuals when I played it on PC, even if the game wasn't necessarily technically cutting edge at every level - the art design was honestly up there with the very best I've seen. So it's good they've kept that art style.

I didn't end up caring much for the story, however, which I thought got really ridiculous. And Aloy ultimately didn't really work as a character for me. But HZD definitely worked as a beautiful open world where I could run around and kill metal dinosaurs.

Are the waves getting a bit stronger at the beach?
That's usually how waves behave (at least in calm waters).

Only blemish I’ve been able to notice is far away clouds seem to have some pixelation artifacts, hopefully it’s just a glitch or they’ll work that out by release time

Also, one can tell how shit of a quality these stream have when the fog is basically 1 huge pixel. The easiest thing for a video compressor to work on is lower fidelity objects that won't be as impacted by the loss of quality, and smoke / fog are usually pretty borked.

SlimySnake SlimySnake you can see the water texture by the shadows in the ocean, near the coast.

Regarding Valley of the Fallen...

Valley of the fallen...what? I'm not going to have to fight something like that, am I?!

(I'm guessing this is a land with natural bridges or something made of downed creatures or something like that?)

The trailer was supposedly in engine PS5 and this is in engine PS5. Therefore, they should look pretty close, they don't. Not even when taking into account image compression or cinematic direction.

Sony expressed a belief in generations last year, then the PS5 reveal event took place and Forbidden West was revealed with exceptional visuals/simulation and no mention of a PS4 version; a fair implication was we were going to get a full next gen experience. Of course, it was later revealed it would be on PS4, no doubt limiting the potential considerably. Sony leveraged the hype for this going into PS5; when it should have been announced first and foremost as a PS4 title.

It looks wonderful, but as a late gen PS4 title with some extra bells and whistles. Not in any way as a PS5 / next-gen title. Even knowing all this, I've held out hope as a result of that trailer. Perhaps they were really diverging the two versions to push the PS5 harder. And it was a somewhat fair hope, given how the first Horizon looked as good as its trailers, even in gameplay a lot of the time.

I still wanna be proven wrong cause I loved the first game so much. But since I recently got a PS5 after holding off 7mths to begin with, I've not had anything that comes close to what I'd deem a next gen experience. Aside from some impressive haptics/feedback in Astrobot and better load times. This is the first time a new PS generation hasn't blown my socks off, despite the important paradigm shifts in the hardware itself. There are no outright showcases, with RnC looking to be the only one coming up; and it just seems to me like Horizon would have been an absolute killer if it was tailored to PS5.

Yes, that and I’ve seem some wierd shadow flickering. That’s pretty much it. So far this pre-show has been a fun ride. It’s like a roller coaster going up, up, up.

For each camera location I’m more impressed, because they seem to have chosen every new location based on what will come across as more beautiful/impressive.
