This looked as amazing as I expected it to be. Saying that, because the first game looked so damn good, the 2nd game reveal did not blow me away honestly. Still very much interested in this though.

She definitely has to be one of the best looking during gameplay, during combat character designs in gaming. She looks so fantastic during combat. The design is just brilliant.

Playstation Studios are so ahead that even their cross gen games look totally next gen :messenger_face_screaming::messenger_smiling_hearts:
Incredible footage, can't wait to see more in June.

Word, blows out the competition out of the water IMO. This was worth the wait. Now I can only imagine God Of War Ragnarok.

And with the PS5 being quiet, fast load times, dual sense and audio improvements, we're in for a treat boys!

Now I hope everyone can get their hands on more PS5 stock, last update I got on Amazon France was that they had some units and they sold them for 1000€ 🤣🤣

Hoping to score another one for my son at regular price for Christmas.

Here's my dumb little prediction :

This will be the least graphically impressive game from Sony we see during this E3 season, and Sony knows it. That's why they went ahead and showed it off early instead of waiting for their June/July digital show.

This is not me saying it wasn't gorgeous, just that I think they have even more impressive games to show around June/July, like God of War Ragnarok, new Final Fantasy exclusive, etc.

Just a quick question did GG say what {visual} modes would be available? I wouldn't go making claims about only 30FPS being available if they haven't said that yet.

Not that I know of. And I don't think the Youtube encode is anything to go by; R&C Rift Apart has 30 "Resolution" mode and 60 "Performance" visual modes but the gameplay sessions tended to only be uploaded 1080/4K @ 30fps. (Those were, of course, played in the high-resolution mode to have the best effects and the least hate-meme'able stillshots.)

I honestly don't think a FF game will look better than this.

Is it just me or does Aloy look like CG? Seriously, i'm blown away by her character model and animations. There's also a nice glow look around her... it just looks too good to be true almost
Me too man, I can't stop looking at her. She's looks like those pre-rendered CGI cutscenes in Finals Fantasy movies.
I'm being attracted by her. She looks so gorgeous. :lollipop_smiling_hearts:

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Is this cross gen? It doesn't look impressive for next. All the same current gen style flaws, lighting behaviour, physics behaviour, clipping, no grunt left for every aspect to be equally high quality (ie since the game doesn't focus on water there's nothing special when she walks through it) etc.

Some nice facial animations but the actual cut scene direction... She's in plain sight when she's supposedly hiding in the grass as the first dinos (nice that even though they're sci-fi they're feathered style designs like we've grown to think dinos were in recent times lol) pass, why so obvious?

I hope you're right. I would assume TLOU2 remastered and then TLOU Remake would be great visual showcases they shown soon. Ragnorok and GTA 5 enhanced as well. But who even knows if Sony is gonna have a summer show, I don't think they will.

Amazing as always! <3

It was sad to see people worrying about the graphics and fidelity during the countdown. It's PlayStation Studios, guys. No need to worry. They are so far ahead of almost everyone else in the industry, it's not even fair.

Excellent showing. I suspect a 2021 release date will be announced during Sony's Summer show.

Looks amazing, but I wish they had aged her face a bit more, surely this is some time after the first game? But they made her resemblance a bit closer to her clone-mother and she has more subtle facial expressions, as can be seen at the end before she opens the world map with that half-smiles and such. Expect to platinum this one as I did the first.

Since Far Cry 6 leaked today thanks to a french youtuber lol i figured id make some comparisons. it looks good and a lot of fun to play but very last gen. especially in urban areas.

Hey, that looks pretty impressive.

I thought - then I went to watch the Far Cry trailer and yeah, those two gifs are pretty much the most impressive parts of the trailer and the rest is just ok. There is a major visual gap between Far Cry 6 and Forbidden West. FC6 doesn't even stack up that well to the best looking last gen games, and neither does Dying Light 2. But for sure they have the gameplay that I enjoy so I'm always going to favor that.

The freaking waves breaking on the beach.

I CAN'T. FUCK.

Look at the way the beams from that giant elephant like creature creates patterns in the sand. All around it's pretty amazing. The more I watch of the demo, the more impressed I become.

Honestly, I was initially getting ready to say how it didn't visually impress me as much as I was expecting it to, and I largely wasn't too convinced from the initial reveal either, which I think I've said here, but, really, the game looks fantastic. It truly does. It appears to me like they've cleverly tightened up some parts to allow for more visually impressive scenes and combat scenarios, and it's a smart decision in combination with the wider freedom you'll get from the bigger open world.

Looks very good, but dam 30fps is just not suited for this fast action packed game. Hope they improve the open world a lot, first game felt like i was walking around in circles flowing a stupid onscreen arrow. Hand combat seems improved but still dont see much depth in it. They need to make a game that appease hardcore rpgs players and players like me who wants a rpg lite game like zelda botw.

I'm not trying to get into anything, but it could be ray tracing? Her legs are in shadow, but there are god rays going across both scenes which might conceivably have lit her from the side..

.. i could be wrong though, just playing devil's advocate
No ray tracing, but there’s obviously a GI solution at work here. She’s never truly in “shadow” during this demo, there’s always plenty of ambient light brightening her up from every direction.
In games lighting is usually pretty binary. You’re either lit, or you’re not, and when you’re not you lose a lot of visible detail because the engine depends on that strong directional light for shading.
Her being lit from soft bounce light sources with proper ambient occlusion gives her that “CG” look they’re talking about.

This is due to the limitations of a deferred renderer. Most games attach a light source to the character that is totally separate from the scene.
I fail to see how that has anything to do with deferred rendering?
Also - 'everything lit by the same lightsources regardless of the camera/cut' would require games to abandon their cinematic aspirations/ambitions first...

I was referring to the several render passes that are used in deferred rendering to compute lighting equations. I should have been more clear about that.

And that character light source is indeed out of the scene. It's being placed over her head where the sun's direction is opposite.

yeah, i didnt want to be rude and gif only the bad looking parts. those two parks looked the best.

the city does not look that great. the lighting is off. but i noticed some advanced physics i didnt see in far cry 4 and 5. some trees fell down and i even saw a chair get thrown about after a grenade exploded nearby.

i think the next gen versions will have those physics.
