Aaron Greenberg: Starfield exclusive on Xbox Series X|S and PC - "none of that has or will change"

Not sure why any console fan would be upset. But if you're really cheap, wait until the end of the generation. The series S will be dirt cheap by the time Starfield launches. You can probably get it under $200 lol. Play all the MS exclusives, sell it.
I’ll ask the question again, what makes it a safe assumption that it will be worth that much trouble? I’ve heard nothing but positive optimism on Starfield but there’s been no gameplay footage. This may be the most bizarre position I’ve ever seen.

My point is simple. The way the game is being spoken of in exclusive, high quality status is setting the game up for a massive disappointment.

The chances are greater that Starfield will be excellent than it will be mediocre. Anyone who disagrees with this probably has some sort of agenda.

This is the next tent pole Bethesda franchise to follow Elder Scrolls and Fallout. I’m guessing that a decent portion of that 7.5 billion was due to what Phil and company knew about Starfield. Hell, Jimbo over at PlayStation explored the idea of obtaining exclusive rights for it (please correct me if I’m wrong here). I think most impartial folks in the gaming sphere have high expectations for Starfield.

I guess I have an agenda then. I have never been excited for a new IP in which I’ve seen zero gameplay. I think people who are overexcited may also have an agenda.

Fallout 76 has a 48 metacritic score on Xbox One. I’m hardly convinced based on history.

I think I’m just willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that after Elder Scrolls and Fallout that Starfield will at least be on par with those IP’s in terms of overall impact. This is what Bethesda does. Fallout 76 was just a flawed take on an very successful IP - and Bethesda has owned its failings at launch. Starfield is a return to what they do best.

As for a lack of Starfield gameplay….does a lack of gameplay for the next God of War - expected to release next year, perhaps competing with Starfield in the Fall - mean it won’t be good? Of course not. New IP or not, I’m as confident that Starfield will be great as I am with the next God of War. We will see.

Bethesda are aiming for Starfield to be the new Skyrim.

Both MS & Bethesda know they have something special in their hands.

Special? I hope by that, you mean not nearly as bug ridden as every other Bethesda game. I'm trying to play through FO4 at 4k60FPS and it looks pretty nice, but I keep getting random crashes. Straight up. The game closes randomly and it's frustrating.

Assuming it's good by that time a console owner would have alot more exclusive options than just Starfield.

It's extremely smart marketing to not close the door for a full 100% though, that 0.01% chance keeps the people talking and discussing about your brand and that is essentially what you want as a marketing guy, keep the brand in the spotlights as much as possible. Greenberg + team are experts in that good or bad doesn't matter.
I don't have a whole lot of respect for Greenberg and Co's marketing ability after watching them chewing on their feet throughout the Xbox One generation, but that's a very good point.

So much for a so-called "The Consumer Friendly Company".

Absolutely consumer friendly. Do you know what the word means? When you buy an Xbox product or a system that supports GamePass, you become their customer.

Starfield will play fine on all systems that support GamePass. Look no further to blame Sony if GamePass is not available there, Microsoft is offering it, therefore consumer friendly, but anti-consumer Sony will block it for sure.

What Sony often does is screw their own customers by forcing them to rebuy remakes, not support older controllers or peripherals, they purposely avoid backward compatibility, block cross platform play, etc, that’s what people refer to when they speak of which company takes care of their customers better.

Todd Howard was never the games director or project leader for Fallout 76. Only producer (in similar fashion as Spielberg on a lot of shit due to previous installments)

Starfield is his baby.

Games directed by Todd Howard:

Fallout 3- 93 MC
Fallout 4- 88 MC
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion- 94 MC
Elder Scrolls: Skyrim- 96 MC
...Starfield- MC ?

Project leader:

Elder Scrolls: Morrowind- 89 MC

That's why there is hype. You don't need to be convinced to at least have faith based on his history.

If you don’t mind me asking, why does it suck?

We have no idea if this game will be high quality. Also, what sucks about MS having exclusives?

“why does it suck for a company to buy an entire publisher with many highly regarded series?”

I’d have this same problem is Sony or nintendo pulled the same move.

They can't be upset because twitter and other places told us for years they all have "High-end gaming pc's" that's a lie from you

Yep, I would constantly hear how amazing all these people's PCs are, but now all of a sudden they have a problem with a game being an exclusive to Xbox next gen consoles, but still releasing on PC.

Aaron followed up and stressed it isn't a timed exclusive either.

Having to deal with exclusive games to a certain platform these days feels so archaic... at least Microsoft are including Windows in the mix so its technically two platforms, but still, this whole concept feels so 90s.

That being said, looking forward to this masterpiece.

Starfield is, and will be an XBOX and PC exclusive. It’s a first party Microsoft title…
If you want to play it, get an XBOX or PC capable of running it…

Not any different than God of War or a more recent title like Spider-Man being exclusive to PlayStation, so if you want to play that you need a PlayStation…

If you want to play Zelda or Mario you need a Nintendo console…

I don’t see why this is so hard to understand for some people. The ongoing anger and frustration over this is pure internet twitter autism rage at its finest.

Not a fan of exclusives, but most PS fans seem to have a high end gaming pc and casuals don't give a shit. So no problem. I think "an launching exclusively" is a back door in the case that xCloud/Game Pass will come to other platforms in the future.

OMG when will this bullshit end.
If you wanna play these games, play on your PC, or buy an Xbox, its as simple as that.
This gen probably has another 6 or 7 years in it, and an Xbox is a few hundred. If you dont think thats worth it to play these games over the next 6 or 7 years than you cant play them, simple.

The fact that there are still people on here that think MS are going to spend $7.5 billion and then release all their games on the competitors console is embarrassing.

How many halo games are on PlayStation?
How many Forza games are on PlayStation?
How many gears of war games are on PlayStation?

Do these people expect God of war and Spider-Man and gran turismo to release on Xbox too?

You don’t spend 7.5 billion dollars to make games for your competition.

Not a first party game, and it was the developer that said that, not Microsoft. Plus it came what?, 4 years after launching on Xbox?.
If people want to wait 4 years in the hope these games will come to PS5, go for it.

I am absolutely perplexed that any Playstation fan would be upset as of now. I don’t think it’s fair to compare to God of War. I personally didn’t get excited for GOW until I saw that trailer with actual gameplay footage/cinematics. GOW is a known entity at this point so I don’t think that comparison is apples to apples. I can see the excitement or anticipation from the side of Xbox owners but I don’t think anything is a guarantee. AAA game making is extremely complicated.
