Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy: The Definitive Edition announced, all consoles and PC in 2021 and mobile in 2022

I really hope these versions of the games feel better to play, if you go back and play the old versions now they feel very stiff compared to the last couple of games.

I shit bricks when I saw the tweet go up live. Glad they confirmed it will see gameplay next week hopefully or screenshots with an early Novemeber release data hoping for a stealth drop on GTA III anniversay date and possible GTA 6 Logo reveal.

Because they're classics. And this coming from gaming forums where people scream for BC left and right is priceless.
Honestly couldn’t give a fuck about BC and think I said it on here many times. I don’t do the nostalgia trip gaming. It’s always a mistake where you remember everything with rose coloured glasses. Gaming has advanced so much I’ve got no interest in going back and playing games I played years ago that have inevitably aged like milk.

This will never happen.

Rockstar is as lazy as Nintendo is.

i hope they put some effort into updating them but i'm expecting the bare minimum.

i'd love updated lighting/textures/models/ui/controls etc but i'm expecting nothing more than a resolution and framerate increase with MAYBE some control enhancements. if rockstar actually manage to do more than that then great but i aint getting my hopes up.

Yeah, that's not happening. If their game looked like that they would have showed it off. This is going to be a basic remastering, i.e. the same game only rendered in 1080p, 4K if you're lucky, and 60 FPS, possibly slightly better textures on certain objects. If they were smart they would have remade GTA III, making it look like GTA V. It would have sold millions and then they can move on to Vice City, then San Andreas, and then finally IV.

I see...

Now one thing i've noticed is that its priced much higher then what it would cost to buy all 3 PS4 versions that are up on PSN. I wonder if this means some semi-remake in some new engine is indeed what was actually done for them to feel the need to not only have a physical release, but a higher price.

I mean, think about it folks, why not do this on PS3? PS4? etc.

Why do this with THIS version and not the others and why price it like this comparied to the others? Maybe a slight overhaul in UE4, some different control options etc was really done to the 3 games and Rockstar Feels the full price justifies it or something.

The change from RenderWare to Unreal Engine 4 will make a drastic change. More than bumping up the original 480p to 4K (27x higher resolution) and unstable 30fps to rock solid 60fps. Lightning, shadows, weather, 3D models and overall assets are going to look so much better.

The significance in changing engine - and not just any engine - but the most used and tested scaleable engine we have today, is going to bring these games into the 20's.

This is not a remaster - it's a remake.

Wait and see when they release a trailer for the trilogy. Feel free to bookmark this comment.
I think you might be mostly right. It will be almost like a remake but I wouldn't expect the new graphics to look amazing. This could have low budget.

I’m actually really excited for this release for 1 reason. The Nintendo Switch. To have these games playable properly in portable form was one of my wishes come true when I was younger. This is going to be awsome.
I replay old games all the time that make me feel good. These are some that take me back and do just that. Just like Ocarina, Super Metroid, Uncharted, Halo.

My phone from 2020 is faster than a PS4.
I think too many people forget that the problem with mobile isn't the concept but the usual business model, since these aren't going to be an idol rpg whale hunter you can connect a controller and play these games the way they are meant to be played.
plus yeah mobile has plenty of power these days, the switch is running on a 6-year-old chipset and comfortably outperforms the xbox360/ps3 and unless you are using like a 5+-year-old phone or a super cheap one, these shouldn't be an issue to run

Could be they want to avoid bad buzz for being a basic port.

Then why make a basic port if they know a negative response would be forthcoming ? If it turns out to be the case it makes little sense. Then again the way the industry is st times I wouldn’t be surprised.

Don’t get me wrong I’m sadly not expecting much from this , I’m hoping to be wrong and it’s a decent effort.

SaintsFan....

I really don't have to say anything other than SaintsFan made this video. He's like one notch above Tmartn. Seriously, though, the reason this will never happen is because they're removing the original versions of the game, so these "remasters" can't be too far from their original state of release.

Or.. They're removing them so people doesn't buy the originals by mistake and they want to earn 100% from sales and not pay 30% to Steam?

I'll be getting this. Vice City is my favorite GTA.
Same, buddy. I get that a lot of people are taking a 'wait and see' approach with this and I respect that, but even slight bumps in graphic for my favourite game and I'll be happy.

I never get tired of playing it.

Of course no steam. Probably no buy for me. Why use another launcher? What's next? Publishers making their own consoles to run their own games?
