One can't immediately conclude that 6.5x too high. The valuation depends on whole heap of factors. What are their margins? Era had 80%, what were the margins of that other site? Next factor is growth: ERA achieved this growth is 4 years, what about the other site? Then comes earnings quality. I assume era earned a majority of their earnings via ads and less from their era clear subs. Being a very ad friendly site means the earnings quality is high. Alongside that, what is the user base and their demographic makeup. How are their risk profiles. Comparing these fundamentals is how companies come up with a valuation. So compared to that site that they acquired at 2.5x, ERA must have had much better fundamentals that deserves a valuation of 6.5x. Even that is too low honestly, like mentioned elsewhere.

Totally agree, theres some legit great OT makers and posters with great heads on their shoulders when it comes to discussion. Angie, Loud Ninja, just to name a few. They always have great OT's and pretty great discussion on games. It's up to them to want to come back to talk about games again. I dont remember there being a TOS that literally said the site was pro left or whatever you want to call it, and that any deviation or antileft view/opinion would be banned snuffed out. To everyone at resetera, if you have an open mind, and want free discussion gaf is here for you. You will never be perma/banned for having an opinion as long as you are respectful. Which everyone here most of the time is which is why this place is way less stressful, and fun/relaxing to post on.

Let's not forget that Era did become the largest forum for gaming - regardless of the right or wrongs of how it achieved that position. Gamers are naturally going to be drawn to a site that seems to offer the largest amount of members, or the inclusion of industry insiders. A lot of the far left, cancel culture, nasty, misogynistic bullshit wouldn't be immediately evident, and it's easy to ignore that shit if you just want to talk about Smash Bros.

However, it's hard to ignore just what a cess pit that site is now, for anyone who's a member. Cut some of them a bit of slack. Not everybody is guilty of being a purple haired Era screecher.

I realized quickly enough though that you had to walk on a thin « acceptable » line over there, but I did not care for the majority of it as I was mostly reading and not active that much.
