NO PAIN TRANCE CONTINUE
The Guilty

Netflix joint. I knew nothing about it going in aside from realizing I had to prepare myself mentally because Jake Gyllenhaal seems to only play emotionally intense roles these days - and I am and was when it started high. High.

Amazing performance. Great story. 4/5. When the credits began to roll and it showed Fuqua as the director I literally said to myself "of course".

I got bored halfway through and skipped around to see if what I thought what the case would be was correct. It was.

It's a movie you could watch with your eyes closed so that's something

Good performances tho!

I saw the new Addams Family movie in theaters. It was a lot better than I thought it would be and made me chuckle a couple of times. I kind of felt sorry for Pugsley in the movie. The last movies story focused more on Pugsley and this movie focused on Wednesday. I was actually thinking the whole family vacation thing would be boring since it is used so often. I really enjoyed the movie and I'm now looking forward to what the 3rd movies story will be. I still don't like the way the Wednesday and Morticia look with the super skinny and massive forehead thing.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

What a piece of shit. Venom and Carnage don't even fight until the last 10 minutes, the humor has 9 misses for every 1 hit, the effects look like a ps3 game, there's no explicit killing despite the bad guy being a serial killer...I mean what the fuck did I watch.

Saw Cruel Intentions again yesterday. Solid flick but seeing it as an adult is quite different than as a teenager. Quite a joke of a script. Rich bad playboy gets turned soft in a few days by good girl because she makes him laugh. Every girls wet dream I guess. Only possible on celluloid of course. Still enjoyed it though. Soundtrack was great. 7/10

I just finished watching The Gangster the Cop the Devil. Was a fun movie to watch. The gangster is usually fun to watch since he always plays the thug type character these days. The cop though was just annoying. Like I'm surprised he hasn't been sued like crazy or killed. He would just barge in by himself into gangster owned territory without any type of weapon like he owned the place and acted more like a young gangster than a cop or maybe an entitled cop who thinks he can do whatever he wants. His style of cop goes just a bit too far and ends up being just annoying. Maybe if he was an older guy who didn't give a F then it would have fit if he got his butt kicked but he was a young guy that looked like he was in his mid twenties. The devil guy was a bit more interesting but they failed to make him crazy enough. I'd give the movie a 8 out of 10 for enjoyment my critics review would give it a 7.5 since the devil character wasn't used equally to the gangster and cop.

So what's the deal with Halloween Kills? Why is it bad? I was thinking about streaming as one of my 31 horror movies this month.

I just finished Leon: The Professional. Yes, I was one of the three people over the age of 20 who had never seen this prior. Wow. What a movie. No wonder people still reference it and homage it to this day. The acting across the board is great. Portman looks like she must have been eleven or twelve here, and even she put on an acting clinic many grown, tenured actors these days would be jealous of. And that's before we even dig into Oldman's or Reno's performances. I should have watched this years ago. 5/5.

To be honest, I think that was probably her best acting to date. It has never really been great to me since.

Watched Papillion via Amazon Prime video yesterday. What a weird movie. Not sure if it was the acting or the script but it made NO sense whatsoever to me that this one dude went through all that shit for the other dude. Completely ruined the mvoei for me. Otherwise it probably would have been great I guess. 6/10

Jingle all the Way yesterday. Don't know if it's because I'm getting old or because I'm finally old enough to see the movie for what it is (judging from the imdb average score it's more the latter) but the movie wasn't nearly as good or funny as I remembered it. Sindbad had a few funny scene but the rest of it was honestly pretty flat. 6/10

We were Soldiers yesterday. Possibly the weirdest war movie I have ever seen. Felt to me like a high budget B-movie. Can‘t really point my finger on it. 6/10

Scram 4
today. Remembered this as very trashy but was quite surprised right now. Sure, first halt was shit with the overuse of the Scream trope but the 2nd was surprisingly decent. 7/10

I read the book it's based on, We Were Soldiers Once.... And Young. It's free for Amazon Prime members right now, btw. It's a straight forward military history book just about the battle itself, peppered with glimpses into why either side was doing what they were doing. After watching the movie, it seems like the screen writer(s) simply didn't do a good job of adding all of the human moments back at home, while sticking reasonably well to the events of the book (in a very compressed, dramatic way of course). So the two sides just don't gel.

The Lost World

I used to love this movie but fuck me if it doesn‘t get more stupid every time I watch it. This time was especially painful. Almost every scene has either someone doing something incredibly stupid, saying something incredibly stupid or has no logic whatsoever. One more view and I‘ll prolly think part 3 is the better movie…

I loved the shit out of this bat shit crazy film, so damn good and highly entertaining. I was in awe at what I was watching towards the end. People who say the film has bad acting have absolutely no understanding of "camp", the first 10 minutes of the film tell you exactly what you're getting and the way people are acting is intentional. James Wan definitely had fun making this film and it's not often Hollywood will green light something original like this. I kind of joke guessed what was happening in the film and I was kind of sorta right, even though I sort of guessed it the reveal was still totally different to what I expected.
If you haven't seen this, try and watch it with zero spoilers and please know that this is not a Conjuring type film.

The Last Duel - cinema
I wasn't expecting this to be one of those movies where they tell the story from 3 different perspectives. It was interesting to see how various characters acted differently depending on who's aspect it was coming from. Some people might find it slow paced but I enjoyed it. It's definitely worth while for that last fight, intense as shit and I had no idea who was going to win. Good times.

Finally No time to Die yesterday in cinema.

Overall a solid Bond. Worse that Skyfall and certainly worse than Casino Royale (still Craige‘s best for me) but I guess better than the rest. Stunts were amazing but I guess I‘m just kinda tired of that safe the world story. Always some virus or bomb… Also, the villain was quite weak in this one… But anyway, good sendoff for Craige.

Godzilla vs. Kong

To be honest I‘m baffled that Warner continues to pour so much money in these trash tier monster universe plots. But I can‘t deny that thanks to these greens the movies do delivery some mindless entertainment value. The action and effects from the 2nd part of the movie are mindblowing. Watch on UHD if possible. So yeah, it is stupid but at least it‘s entertaining.

Cry Macho.

I hate to say it but Clint Eastwood should retire. I would have wanted to applaud him for being an actor/director at age 91, but in Cry Macho he is playing the role of a character obviously written for a thirty-forty years younger actor. It is just uncomfortable to see Eastwood walk with his old man shuffle, embarrassing to see a beautiful woman throw herself at this stiff, almost mummified nonagenarian and silly to see him pretend to one punch knock out a muscled guy in his thirties. When Eastwood gets on his knees to look under a car, I feared he wouldn't be able to get up. It doesn't help that the kid actor looks too old for his role as a 13 year old and his acting is awkward. The movie lacks tension and drive.

All in all one of Eastwood's weakest directorial efforts. Not recommended.

I really liked The Mule though.

Started one of the '100 Best Movies of All Time' list, first was 2001: Space Odyssey - incredible movie. I forwarded a few times during particularly long sequences but other than that I was very impressed. The Godfather is next.

Which list are you using? I still need to show my wife 2001 but might wait until I get the 4K disc.

*EDIT*
Out of curiosity, I checked the box office for The Last Dual. It's absolutely fucking sad that it is failing so damn hard. Might sign the death of old timey epics.

The Imagine Dragons of popcorn movies. The first 30 minutes was fun as ****. Then they just hit you over and over with the same formula for the last 60+ minutes.

Halloween Kills - cinema
Wife and I watched Halloween (1978) and Halloween (2018) last night and watched this tonight. We both enjoyed, were entertained and laughed heartily at the gay couple. No it's not the best Halloween film, no it's not better than 1978 or 2018 but it's certainly better than any of the other sequels that have been made in the past. Lots of gnarly and bloody kills which is what I am there for. The whole mob mentality aspect definitely delivers a new angel for the franchise, to a degree. Will buy on 4K.

More of a slow burn this one, basically it explores the themes of child trauma. Pretty cool monster design and quite a bit of goriness too. My wife was luke warm on it but I love creature features so enjoyed it quite a bit.
