Thats partly why I made this thread. Factions sholuldve released by now, but still no reveal? Didnt Jason say that Sony Bend was helping ND with Factions before moving on to their new IP? The rest of the team at ND took over the TLOU remake by VSG studios. So now you have not one but two last gen games in development and still not released and we are already a year into next gen.I thought Factions 2 would be a game 6 months to a year at most after TLOU2
Now we are a year and a half and it doesn't sound like it's anywhere close. Who is going to care about a PS4 game in 2023 or whenever it comes out?
Frankly I could care less if they abandoned it and had just moved on to a new single player IP for next gen exclusive. That's what would get me hyped up
Im on my phone now in a parking lot so my ability to reply is limited at the moment. But you really aren't understanding what I'm saying. Im not out to diminish anything about ND. Im literally just answering your OP. My answer is that they never were that productive, and they maintained the illusion of productivity by just continually releasing minor updates on the same game over and over with graphical updates that are industry leading and very time consuming.I dont understand this logic. Why does something need to be on a different engine to be different? Mortal Kombat is on Unreal Engine. Days Gone is on Unreal Engine. Are they the same game because they are on the same engine?
you keep ignoring entirely different genres just because they share the same third person perspective or the same engine or same trees. As if including some foliage and trees somehow means creating a post apocalyptic universe is the same as creating a modern world with some tombs and lost civilizations.
I mean saying TLOU and Uncharted are the same game is like saying RE2make and Uncharted are the same game. I am not exaggerating, I am poking holes in your logic.
And now crafting is apparently just a UI change. You seem to be intent on diminishing everything ND does different. They are not productive because they make third person games. They dont make games in different genres because they use the same engine. They make the same game over and over because I choose to ignore entirely new features as minor UI design changes. What's funny is that they rebuilt their entire animation system for TLOU2 to implement industry leading motion matching that was not in their previous games but you will probably dismiss that too because they added it to their existing engine instead of creating a new one.
excuse me? TLOU had one of the best and most unique MP experiences ever. Can't believe anyone still gives a flying F about TLOU2 multiplayer.
This studio has been one of the most productive studios in the business. They are by no means as bad as studios that take 5-7 years to make a game. From 2007 to 2013, they released four games in two year intervals. From 2016 to 2020, they released 3 games in 4 years. Even Uncharted which was in development hell was released in just 3 years, and they turned around and released an 8 hour Lost Legacy in just one year. TLOU 2 despite all its delays still launched roughly 2.5 years after Lost Legacy.
So why is it that 1.5 years since their last game we haven't seen anything from them? No new reveals. No TLOU remaster like they did on PS4. No Left Behind style DLC. 6 months after they launched Uncharted 4, they revealed Lost Legacy at PSX. We are now 18 months since TLOU2 and nothing. They even had that 1080p 60 fps teaser for Uncharted 4 ready in one year back at E3 2014 while they were working on Left Behind and TLOU PS4 remaster. There is a chance they might have something at the VGAs so fingers crossed for that.
Again, this is a VERY productive studio so they are held to a higher standard than say Guerrilla Games, Rockstar or 343i who produce one game every 5 years. 1.5 years is a long time for them to not reveal, let alone release anything. For example, I am very disappointed that they did not release a PS5 sku for TLOU2. Game plays amazing at 60 fps, but it wouldve been great to get the instant loading upgrades from a dedicated PS5 port. The combat encounters take almost a minute to load on the PS5 which makes replayablity a chore since the main campaign is paced so poorly. Having a dedicated PS5 port wouldve also allowed for a far higher resolution, framerate and character model upgrades they were able to include a PS4 port of TLOU. That too in just under a year despite the difficulty of porting the game from a Cell processor based engine.
Besides, what can we expect at the VGA anyway? The Last of Us remake? Factions? Both of them are likely cross gen so it's not like they will blow us away. Is Naughty Dog going to become a 1 game every 5 years studio or can they be productive like they were in the 2010s when they released 7 games in 10 years.
excuse me? TLOU had one of the best and most unique MP experiences ever.
Get your head out of our ass.
Apparently there's dozens of 'em!Now we are a year and a half and it doesn't sound like it's anywhere close. Who is going to care about a PS4 game in 2023 or whenever it comes out?
What? It's no different than me pointing out that in the span of 2007 to 2013, they released games every 2 years. Of course UNcharted 4 took 3 years of dev time, I mentioned this in the same postThey released Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy In 2017, then TLOU2 in 2020. That’s essentially 3 years between each game.
You’ve taken that as ‘three games in 3 years’, divided that up and decided on your own that not having a new AAA game to show just 1.5 years after their last AAA game is something ‘bad’.
Never mind your casual dismissal of how COVID’s affected timelines and development.
Even Uncharted which was in development hell was released in just 3 years,

No.and THAT future game
So probably working on a new IP.
referring to future game which is game from not too distant past seems stupid as well as multiplayer mode to already existing gameNo.
He either means TLOU remake or TLOU online.
just repeating what others have said.
Its not a multiplayer mode. Its an entirely separate new multiplayer game.referring to future game which is game from not too distant past seems stupid as well as multiplayer mode to already existing game
Nah..want nothing from them until at least gow ragnarok has a solid date. Take your time ND
This.Productivity is going down across the entire industry as games continue to get more expensive and complex to make, this is specially true for studios like ND who have build a reputation around making visual showcases. Look how upset people got when GOW Ragnarok didn't seem to show a big visual upgrade compared to the original.
If you want games to keep pushing visuals and production values even further with each new entry you'll start getting longer periods of time in between games, except for big publishers like Ubisoft who can afford things like having multiple teams working on Assassins Creed sequels in parallel.
I dunno, but I think in terms of being Sony's marquee studio they will be surpassed this generation by either Insomniac, Sucker Punch or Guerrilla Games. That doesn't mean Naughty Dog won't be good; they'll still make great stuff with some of the best character animations in the industry.
But the other studios I mentioned have been improving all around at a pretty fast clip, whereas I think ND have slid down in terms of writing and game design/mechanics innovation if TLOU Part II is anything to go by.
Both are sony studios? Sony overlords dictate when to show off or hold back stuff. What does one have to do with the other?
In short, we’re working on it - we see the community comments as many of you clamor for multiplayer and want updates. For now, we’ll say that we love what the team is developing and want to give them time to build out their ambitious project, we’ll reveal more when it’s ready! To that end, we’ve been busy growing our team inside the kennel since The Last of Us Part II launched and are currently in full swing of hiring for MP-related positions (hint hint), so if you or somebody you know qualifies for anything you see on our jobs page, apply!
This was from September.

"We love what THE TEAM is developing and want to give THEM time."
It looks an entirely separate team is working on the multiplayer project and they're hiring a lot of people to finish off the project.
So it seems like there are 3 teams working on 3 different projects. 1) The multiplayer Team 2) Main Naughty Dog Team for the new IP and 3) Small team to finish off The Last of Us Remake

I am going by their history. They have traditionally had something to announce months after releasing their games. Be it DLC, or a smaller game or a remaster. If covid is to be blamed for everything, fine. Thats a valid excuse i suppose though it did not seem to affect Insomniac. But the point is that they have not had anything to show 1.5 years after shipping a game when in the past they were releasing games, DLCs and remasters within that time period. ND, by their own recent standards, is literally a year late.
We must have played different games. I didn't see any social justice bullshit you talk about, not the stupid characters.Imagine Naughty Dog not messing up the sequel to one of the best games ever by having incredibly stupid characters and ridiculous writing in the name of social justice.
Love a poll that attaches commentary to it. I can't just vote "No". I have to also vote that Neil Druckmann has run the studio into the ground.
Totally agree on all points. But u4 multiplayer was tons of fun! At least I can't deny that. Played a lot.No longer care. Loved Uncharted, was found of Jak games, loved TLOU1..... Then enter wokista takeover and ousting of Amy, Drukman takeover. ND has never been the same, to me.
Uncharted 4 was bleh of a game. It looked great and was repsonisve but it was missing something that was in the first 3 games.
Then tlou2 happened. .. Won't comment as i didn't play it as i was turned off from it with killing of Joel. One of my favorite games from ps3 and didn't play the sequel.
Uncharted will probably never have a new game with Nathan Drake so i could care less at this point.
You know it!Preparing that sweet unchy 5 with nate's non-binary daughter.
I think they'll double downLol just one game with some wokeness and look at you guys. Studio run into the ground? Gamers are some of the most sensitive people I've ever encountered. It was one game guys, and not even a bad game at that. Very few of you probably actually played it. Just followed the herd once you read stupid forums like these. Get over it. My God grow up and move on. This is Naughty Dog, one of the industry's leading developers. You think they haven't learned anything from all this? Lol
It will be interesting to see when Naughty Dog's next game is praised all around and is another hitYes if the most awarded game in history is anything to go by its clear Naughty Dog is on a downward trend
I don't understand the concern, TLOU 2 just released last year. I don't think it's reasonable to expect something from them this early.
and THAT future game
So probably working on a new IP.
Don't even get what yall are mocking. You know it!
In Uncharted 4 - initially, the plan was for the ending to feature Nate's son. Someone suggested to Neil - what would happen if it were a daughter instead. So he was like - why not? So we got Nate's daughter. In TLOU1 we had one gay character. Then in Left behind we also had Ellie kiss a girl. In TLOU2 this storyline and the diverse representation was expanded. The next logical step would be in U5 for them to have Nate's daughter be an interracial bisexual or non-binary (simply being a lesbian wouldn't be enough because it was already done with Ellie. So for the sake of diversity, she would have to be either bisexual - which is kind of passé and old fashioned - or non-binary - which is the thing du jour.Don't even get what yall are mocking.
