Looks like they commit the cardinal sin of open world design

Looks like they commit the cardinal sin of open world design.

Telling you where things are on the map and just having you go there instead of actual exploration and guiding you towards things that look interesting from a distance. Movement looks fun, combat could be fun with better enemies.

Breath of the wild was released in 2017... that means we've had about 4 years of people constantly saying how much better it is to actually explore instead of just going to points on your map.

The camera positioning is horrible, big open world with nothing to do because you're supposed to be running quickly through it.

Combat is awful.

The animations are fucking basic, especially on enemies.

It actually makes Assassin's Creed games look GOOD.

Forspoken effects artists: "So we're thinking about adding in this spell where the whole screen is filled with 1000 rotating and scaling alpha effects, I've told my guys to go wild with it, no thoughts of performance just pure art design! You guys can optimise that for us right?"

I'm actually pretty bullish on this game. I think the traversal and combat abilities look really fun to use. Seems like there might be some issues with the frame pacing or something, but I'll be playing on PC, and there's still time to sort that out besides.

It's a next gen only game. no idea why the engine is struggling with this. Did they not upgrade their engine for next gen at all?

Is it even 4k? Maybe they can halve the resolution and save on performance that way.

I really wanna support this since its a New IP but anything less than 30 FPS needs to be fixed, i cant play a super low FPS game plssss

Liking the idea of nail polish designs containing augmentation runes - very cool concept. Frame rate needs a lot of work and, yeah, that kind of glib, running-commentary dialogue needs to die in the deepest fire Earth can muster.

The game looks fucking incredible to play. Yes, it runs like shit but i highly doubt a sony exclusive would ship in this state.

I really dont understand how gaf can look at that gameplay and decide we need to ignore the awesome magic abilities, ignore the incredibly quick traversal, and focus instead on the framerate drops of an unfinished game.

Everyone loves Zelda, but my goodness traveling through that world was a fucking chore. Same goes for other open worlds like Ass Creed, Far Cry, Horizon, and RDR2. Here she literally fast travels through the world jumping off cliffs like shes spiderman. Magic system lets you tie 3 different spells together for unique chain attacks. Just imagine the possibilities! This looks new, different, and interesting.

It looks like they took FFXV and finished it a bit more. Instead of a teleport to specific points, now you have fast traversal with rapid jumps and dashes. Instead of one spell that's an item, now you have many spells.

I have very mixed feelings on FFXV, so this could go either way for me and I wouldn't be surprised.

Last time I enjoyed magic in a fantasy game was Two Worlds 2. It's about time we got one that goes all out with it.

This looks like what the FFXV team would come up with. Its a pass for now, but i'm kind of a sucker for action RPG so w/e.

I like how the combat is based on flashy spells.
But everything else about it looks rough: framerate, IQ, art direction, bland writing with constant talking, constant grunting while traversing the world.

Game looks like it could have launched on Ps4 but barely seems to be able to run on Ps5.

Traversal and combat looks interesting enough.

And plot\charas have involuntary comedy gold written all over it, after ff15 and ff7 rerape i'm sure that square is gonna deliver in this regard.

lol me too. I liked some aspects of it, but my goodness, thats such a weird game. The open world was severely under utilized. The combat was flashy and fun, but wasnt very fleshed out. The less we talk about the final few hours the better. This looks far more traditional, more focused and while I am getting tired of the ubisoft style open worlds, it might work here because it will help them focus on the combat instead of whatever they were trying to do with the open world in FFXV.

Why do some devs feel the need for their character to constantly throw out one-liners during fight scenes?
Too many barks in general, like the constant grunting during traversal. Gets annoying.

But this looks like AC with magic so I'm down for sure.

As long as they include the options to turn off marker and have the game hint at locations and or tell which directions to go, then that'd be cool. I think AC Odyssey did this.

There is not a single thing that resonates with me in this game. I don't know...
It's ok. Someone times it's best when things aren't designed to try to appeal to everyone.

I'm interested in this for the story and the different style of combat.

Just hope it delivers.

Maybe when the reviews drop i will think differently but for now...
