I will admit you correct about one thing though. I don't own a XSS but I have bought several for my friends. They appreciated the fact it could do things even more expensive consoles could not. I do not know why you bring up the XSS at all, its existence doesn't affect the PS5 in the slightest yet you find yourself in every XSS thread. Very interesting indeed. 😉

Why didn't you send me one?

I'm offended 😩

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Xbox fans who are upset people are mocking the article need to understand that people aren’t mocking Xbox, they are mocking an article that states PS5 sold out and it’s all about stock but before you leave let me hit these marketing notes because this is actually a sponsored bit.

Does it say anywhere in the article that it's a sponsored piece or is this just some localized copium flaring ?

You're saying the lack of supply of the ps5 doesn't tell us anything of its demand? Huh?

The series s is selling well. We have that data. No need to downplay or make excuses. It's selling. The ps5 and xsx would be selling if they were available. They're not. The series s is. It's as simple as that. It's a massive win for ms. So why wouldn't Sony want a similar win? They didn't have the foresight and it's too late now.

Will the chip shortage last into 2023? Maybe. Maybe not. We don't know. But in the interim ms is profiting with the series s. And if it does stretch into 2023 ms is prepared.

It's not an excuse at all. And I'm not downplaying it. But if the Xbox Series S and X were both available in the same amounts, which one would you think would sell out first? And to the bolded question.......Sony wouldn't want that "win" because it means they'd need to develop games with a slightly different mindset. And they'd need to develop literally two different console configs that have too much different hardware within it. It's not worth it. It wasn't lack of foresight, it was a choice to stick to one main Hardware config.

MS needs more acquisitions. Another one or two big ones and the things will go spicey.
I believe - Nintendo aside - in USA MS has high chances to return to 360 era within several years.
However with streaming it is gonna be different market anyway sooner or later.

In Asia even PS will lose to Nintendo so they can only bet on XCloud. For Europe - we need Bethesda games to arrive + acquisitions. Also get more commercials and localizations.

That is not what is being debated here. The question is would XSS have outsold XSX or PS5 had either of those had comparable stock. I think it is safe to say XSS would have a customer base due to its price regardless, but it just as plausible to say XSS is benefitting from lack of XSX and PS5 availability.
I don't think I've seen a single person on either side of this silly argument say that XSS would have outsold XSX or PS5 if those systems were in stock. I think what people take issue with is the prattling that the main (or only) reason people would buy an XSS is because they can't get a PS5 or XSX. It seems pretty difficult for some of us to accept that other people might be ok with what series S has to offer.

No doubt there are people who will buy an XSS now and upgrade to XSX or PS5 when they find one. If there's a game they want to play and they need a new console to play it, say like Flight Simulator, they may settle for XSS just to be able to get access to it. I imagine that a lot of people are also happy with XSS and Gamepass and aren't going to upgrade any time soon because it's good enough for them. Not everyone has a top of the line 4K TV. Not everyone cares about ray tracing sizzle. Not everyone wants to spend $500. They just want to play games and XSS lets them play all of the new games.

At the end of the day what Microsoft wants is the recurring Gamepass revenue, not to be number 1 on the hardware sales leaderboard, and XSS was clearly built to make that happen. Outside of forums like this a lot of just people don't care about game ownership and physical vs. digital and who sold the most plastic boxes. They just want to play games for as little money as possible and some portion of XSS sales are those people.

Of course the XSX would sell out first all things being equal. But that doesn't take away from the Series S's success. Especially with the chip shortage, the Series S has been a huge boon to MS.

And are you sure Sony wouldn't want that "win"? You are making it more of an issue than it is to develop for two devices. Every third party developer does it and I can't think of any developers, anonymous or otherwise, that have complained about having to develop for the Series S (or for a significant number of PC options or the Switch, etc.). I don't think it's that big of a deal. Although granted, I am not a developer. But I haven't read about devs being frustrated with the Series S. If you can point me to that, please do. To me it seems like it was a lack of foresight for Sony. They did develop two models, but both are equally as hard to manufacture. If they had developed something similar to the Series S maybe we would see more PS5 exclusive titles, other than the handful that we've gotten. Sony has no reason to leave out the PS4 when there are so few PS5s sold. That's why HZD2, GoW2, GT7, etc etc etc. are all going to be available on the PS4. At this rate MS may be going 100% current gen sooner than Sony, which is funny when you think about it given Sony's messaging prior to the release of the PS5. "We believe in generations." LOL

A business page saying Xbox series S selling more in Nov because it was more widely available whilst others short in stock = sponsored article?

The article doesn't even really pave th series S in a positive light.... Its just stating the availability and price. Do you have any evidence that it's a sponsored article or are you triggered by an xbox article that's not slating it by just stating facts.

..... And people say this forum isn't SonyGaf. One article just stating facts that series s is on store shelves and the place goes into meltdown.

Yes! The juice isn't worth the squeeze. Once Sony is 100% on making PS5 only games, they'll be better off not having to worry about a second sku.

And when will that be? Q1 2023? Q4 2023? Beyond that? That is a lot of years they are missing out on a significant number of hardware sales.

Are you in software development? I still think you're making way too much about designing for two skus. EVERY third party developer does it, and typically we're talking significantly more than 2 devices when we factor in PS5, PS4, Xbox One, XSS, XSX, and all the combinations of PC setups. I don't think I've read about any delays due to the need to develop for more setups. Maybe it's not as simple as pushing a button, but I think it's a minor issue. If it was a major issue you wouldn't see 7+ versions of Fifa (and that's only factoring in PC as one device). If you know otherwise, please show the proof.

While I don't agree that the "only reason" anyone is buying XSS is due to stock shortage, I don't understand this need to speak to this in absolute terms. XSS certainly has sales for what it offers as a console. XSS also certainly has sales due to the massive demand/low stock of PS5/XSX coupled with higher XSS availability. The article is giving reasons why "Xbox is beating the PlayStation 5" and many are highlighting that availability of XSS is the primary reason which seems to have triggered others. So if we are going to point out "prattling" then let's point in both directions.

I agree completely with the rest of your post.

BusinessInsider is a financial blog. Not written for angry GAFfers. Their target audience don’t live on gaming enthusiast forums. It’s also a well written piece. Why would any sane person mock the article? Or claim it’s a ‘sponsored bit?

I’m sorry, but at this point , this looks like a mental health issue for some of you people.

Dont have time to watch that but give me a quick run down

Basically saying you lied. It’s got a mostly solid 60fps performance mode.

Again ... Source?

It. was. a. majorly. down. month.

I've stated my support for the Series S for a long .... long time. But that doesn't change the numbers. What is this "huge boon" you refer too? It's a little easier to make so it's more readily available, but it's also not lighting up any charts. I can go get a Series S right now. I can't get a PS5 or an XSX.

You've answered your own question in your own post.

The whole point of the article (which has been thoroughly misrepresented in this topic) is that the Series S is selling well *BECAUSE* its the only one in stock routinely.

Using Amazon for reference like you did, Series S is the best selling console there right now. It's selling more than the Switch on Amazon (US).

The Non Bundle version of Series S is also in the top 20.

And just to answer your bolded .... It is not a "well written piece."

It is short, lacks actual context for some of the data it talks about, and editorializes along the way. But I do admire your attempted rhetorical device basically saying people who disagree (i.e. you frame disagreement as "mocking") with what is written is basically not "sane." You're trying to frame things so that if you disagree that Halo 5 and FH5 make a "strong case" for the Xbox (these are two series with a long historical record, and have not ever moved the needle towards Xbox being in a lead position. Again, referencing data here, not personal preferences or personal wishes), or that game pass is "wildly popular" (HIGHLY debatable given current sub numbers, and how many people are actually buying games on competing platforms) then that person is "not sane" .... Ok.

In the end, it's a pointless little blurb of an "article" that does not reveal any kind of solid data and it lacks any kind of actual insight. It's not even worth discussing.

For the second bolded, you might be right, but I don't think that statement should be targeted towards who you might think. There is a strong disconnect to reality going on around some of this discussion.

Ugh ...

No.

It has so far sold more in one month, because it is available. It is not selling well with respect to the overall competition or historical sales rates. Sales were down last month. How in the heck are people not understanding this?

There is a huge difference.

All the butt-hurt Sony fans coming up with excuses that everyone already knows and understands is quite amusing.

We get it, it’s the only console you can get your hands on. But I doubt highly that Microsoft paid for this article. As it also covers the cons of owning the Series S.

That's .... exactly what I said :(

I'm not talking about historical sales contexts, cause 2 of the 3 big next gen consoles are extremely supply constrained. Of course it's going to be a lower sales month in comparison with the past.

I'm specifically talking about the 3 next gen consoles in a vacuum if you will.

wouldnt this benifit MS then?
Instead of going heavy with xsx, why not go with xss? Since that one will sell faster, since its easy for them to produce it.

Considering these past sales, xss have been selling faster, due to availability stock.
This whole scenario could continue throughout 2022, as well. The Series S is a pretty fantastic gateway drug inside Microsoft's gardened wall. Sony is in a bad place, since the only difference between their two offerings is disc-drive/lack thereof; they're struggling to make BOTH their systems.

They are settling, because they cant get the C or ps5. If people really wanted it and it was a hot commodity it would be sold out year round as wel.
I ended up settling on two of them, to go along with two Seagate 1 TB "memory cards". Guess what? That money ain't going towards hardware I'm gonna grovel and spend time I don't have to get my hands on. Somebody's missing out, and somebody's fortunate. Those two would be Sony and Microsoft, respectively.

There is a huge difference.
One people can buy, the other people can't.
If you are a xbox/Playstation your main goal is users, who spend money on your system. Not having your system on stock, means not enough users to spend money on your system.

We can agree/disagree on xss. But the fact that it's available to buy, means MS is getting more users. And when people have the product on their hands, they spend money on it.

Xss is for people who don't care about graphics. 300$ console, and it's easy to get. They will go and buy that console. They won't wait for Xsx to drop.

Xss is also serving another purpose. Steal users from Playstation. Playstation owners will buy the XSS for gamepass machine. That is a win for xbox.

That available, is what will win you this gen. The harder the console is to get, the more people will stop looking for it. That is what MS is banking on it right now.

Expect this console to sell alot, the longer this stock issues continues on. We saw what happened in Japan, where both consoles were selling 3k total. We will see this issues in the future alot.

And I'd argue the best games tend to be focused on one sku type. For the most part if you're making a game for 5 different skus it's not going to be as easy as if you are making it for one sku. But at the end of the day, some of you guys are giving the Xbox Series S too much credit here. MS has never given us the numbers, so why act as if it's really been a huge boon for MS? Do we even know the ratio that the S and the X are being made in? I "thought" it was 60-40. With the 60% going toward the Series X. But I may be remembering that wrong.

I'm sure they will still be making PC games.

You knew what I'd say, because you know that's the correct answer. If it was so easy Sony's original internal studios would be making the PC versions along side console versions. So yes......they literally bought a PC port company to do those ports. It's a smart move for them.

My point is we were all kids at one point and wanted things we couldn't have or afford. I don't think anyone should be shamed for that.

For a younger kid or early teenager, the Series S would make for a far better gift, it's cheaper .. smaller .. has all the next-gen games you want and pairs well with any old 1080p TV or monitor. Otherwise you're gonna ask us if we should also shame kids for wanting 4K TVs to go with their $500 consoles :D

Hell, in most cases younger kids will only want a new console to play Fortnite or Roblox. They wouldn't really care about TFlops or SSD sizes. The Series S is an ideal gift as an entry level console for the entire upcoming generation, a gift which will last a good 5/6 years.

The one thing it shows is that Sony has a credible competitor and that can't be bad. I still do believe that the PS5 will end up on top (well, probably the switch actually but you know...) once the supply problems will be solved, but I'm glad to see Microsoft doing well. I'm not worried for Sony, they'll be ok and they'll release all the games that their audience wants and then some. But this generation being more disputed is a good thing.

That is false. Unless they have contract with the console owners, that doesn't happen.

Xbox/Playstation have in-house studios which solely focus on their consoles. GOT/FH5 are the 2 best games for Playstation/Xbox.

3rd party games depends on the platform they are making games for. Most games are designed for consoles, then pc. Because designing a game for pc 1st will create cyberpunk2077 issue for consoles. And PC is much stronger than consoles.

They have to work with weakest hardwares, then mid, and last high end pcs. They are dealing with Xbox sku, Playstation sku, Nvidia sku, amd sku. That is alot of sku devs need to deal with.

Ff7R PC port is straight up garbage

Pc have the best graphic games, but at the cost of lower graphic cards unable to play the game at stable frame rate.

I wanted ps3, but my dumb ass brain went with 500$ nike shoes. Don't ask me how I bought that, but I was so stupid as a kid. My biggest regret, since I could have alot of fun with ps3.

Kids make dumb requests. And right now, they are all warzone, fortnite. Parents won't buy them for these games. They aren't like us in the past.
