Both consoles have low supply due to stock, and because of that, they cant satisfy the demand. And since you cant satisfy the demand, you will have high demand for your product. (xsx,ps5)
If both consoles had high supply, everyone who wants the console will be able to get them. Because of how easy is to get the product, the demand would be low. (xss, switch)

The chip shortages is breaking the law of equilibrium. Which results in higher demand. Which is responsible for "Out of stock".

Until that chip shortage is fixed, both consoles will face this problem for a long time.

Xss has higher supply, which users here reported of its availability. Because of that, the XSS doesn't meet "higher demand" status, since supply exceeds demand. Same for switch. Switch has more supply, which makes the demand less, since you can buy one. XSX/PS5 have limited stock, which makes the demand for them higher. And because Sony and MS arent providing enough supply, both console will be in much higher demand. Its why its get "out of stock" status.

It doesnt have anything to do with n1 sales. Its whoever can satisfy the demand, will win that month.
NO ONE is MEETING Demand, thats the point.

Gee I wonder why that is? Is it really funny or do people not buy things they don't like and people buy things that they at least have some liking to? I think we need to get Einstein on the case for this one.

You can really say this with a straight face, in a thread where your fellow platform warriors have long since been arguing that the only reason people buy the Series S is because it’s what they settle for when the flagships aren’t available?

Lmao.

What IS funny is people spending an inordinate amount of time talking about a console they supposedly don't want and aren't affected by. They take time out of their day to let everyone know how much they don't like said console and making up hyperbolic nonsense about that console. Perhaps Einstein can figure out the thought process on that.

Never said self awareness was his strong suit.

I’ll make sure to ask my 9 year old daughter if she is unhappy with her series S on Saturday morning. It’s not like she even knows what a series s vs x is.

there’s no way I could have spent 450 squid on her as we’ll as everything else. Series s is great for this kind of player.
Your daughter is gonna be incredibly unhappy once she counts those pixels and realizes it's not full 4K :messenger_winking:

No one is salty or triggered.

Xbox fans in this thread don't know how to really respond to the fact that there are supply constraints other than to accuse people of being salty.
The article literally states that there are supply constraints for the other consoles and that the series s is readily available. The conversation seems to have gobe

Article:series s is selling well because its in stock and the other consoles arnt in Stock. Also its quite cheap to buy.

Sony fans: this is a propaganda piece..... Paid for by ms. The series s is only selling well because its in stock and the PS5 isn't.

I didn’t buy a 2k 75” tv just to buy a Series S and play games on 720p.
If you are living in your mamas house and only game on a monitor or your wife lets you only play it on the little tv than maybe it’s for you.

But I can’t imagine someone with a great tv to be happy with that console in certain games ( I know some of them run at 1440p etc.) . I think in 2 years when there will be next gen only games this console would rarely even touch 1080p. Mostly 720p upscaled lol

This happened during black Friday.

The article stated there were supply constraints and Xbox fans were accusing people of making excuses. Fact is, they don't want to hear it and they want to believe the Xbox consoles would be as successful without it.

If it's in the article, then no one would be this upset about it.

>article says that xbox is outselling ps5 mainly because of availability
>"b-but it's only because of availability! this doesn't mean anything! This is peak propaganda, paid for by Microsoft!" x24
>uh yeah guys that's what the article literally says,
>"omg why are you reacting so negatively? why so salty?"

Ok then 🤭

If there was widespread availability of the flagship consoles and many of the people who bought a Series S ended up buying the more powerful Series X, how would xbox consoles be any less successful?

Make it make sense.

1. It’s in the article. You couldn’t be arsed to read it, eh?
2. Now you admit you’re upset. Why would sales of mass market plastic boxes push you into being upset?

The person points out supply constraints

"You're downplaying the success."
"You're salty."
"Store can only sell what's available. You guys are downplaying."

People are literally posting data and it either gets a laugh react or people accusing someone of being salty. This is childish. lol.

Your question makes no sense. One console is going to sell better than a console that's out of stock.

That's common sense. Xbox fans have accused people of downplaying or being upset just because they're pointing this out.

These are the same people who go into UK sales charts threads and go, "Wait, there's no digital data."

This is what Xbox fans do.

Now if you're paying attention, I've always pointed out why the XSS is selling more than the PS5 AND the XSX. That means one Sony console and another Xbox Console.

My first reply in this thread was that it was obvious and guess who was the first to reply in a negative way?

You.

If it was in the article then you or any other person wouldn't have a problem with people mentioning it. It's like you're projecting your feelings on others. I'm just saying people are stating the obvious and that's something you have a problem with.

Just keep her away from this discussion thread. The poor lass would be mentally scarred for life...or put off games for ever..50/50 I reckon ;)

The majority of the best games of the past year have been on a device with a screen that's around 6 inches in size.

Some of you lot are so fucking elitist in your belief in how you think games should be played and owned.

Possible Series S will outsell the PS5 this month, but I’m seeing PS5 stocks drop left and right atm. I guess we’ll see next month.

Its because we already played those games on the WiiU years ago .... 😏

Jk mate... switch its selling like hot cakes ... Nintendo is just LoLing at this point

Both of series x and ps5 disc ones are more available in the UK, PS5 DE not so much.
The Digital Edition won’t be a common occurance anytime soon by the looks of it.

Which is kinda ironic because it’s the only version I’ve ever laid eyes on IRL. Mine is a Digital, and all the friends I know of that has a PS5 has the Digital Edition.

Yeah, I have to agree. It looks better but now I want a UHD player (bought a 4k OLED recently, only had a 1080p TV before) and games are pricier nowadays, especially in EU.

Tbf with a separate uhd player, you at least get the option of having dolby vision on supported movies. I need/want a UHD player as well.

leads to fear. Fear leads to xbox.
That is shitty argument to justify your point.

You are saying people will pay for 300$ console, when they can literally wait for the 500$ console to drop.

Do you think, people will spend 300 for xss, then buy xsx for 500$ later? Cuz that is stupid argument. You want them to spend 800$, before taxes on these 2 consoles.
I can see comprehension on this forum is high, its the HOLIDAYS, christmas, Kwanza, Hanukkah, whatever you celebrate, this is gift giving season. If you have two consoles that are sold out constantly and one that is not (which is the S, because im sorry the availability for it is high because not as many people are buying it because they want the S/5. So yes when its the holidays and kids, adults are asking/wanting something that is NOT available, they will grab something that is, THAT IS SETTLING. They sre getting something that is widely available because people dont want it compared to the things that are sold out
This is ridiculous. So the people who bought the S were held at gunpoint, then?
When you have kids or something you really want and the lesser product is widely available would you come home with something for the holidays or come home with nothing...? Why is the S so readily avilable for purchase, because other than the holidays, people arent buying it.

another analogy maybe you guys will get.

you wana go out clubbing and looking for action tonight, yet all the girls you hook up with that are 10's are busy or with someone else with the moment. You have another side bitch on the side but she more of a 6/7. Not as great of a body, her personality is dry as shredded wheat, but she the only girl available tonight. Again you're down for a night of fun that night, do you wait for the 10's to become available even though you have no clue when they will be or do you settle with the 6/7 because you need a night off with fun?
I ended up settling on two of them, to go along with two Seagate 1 TB "memory cards". Guess what? That money ain't going towards hardware I'm gonna grovel and spend time I don't have to get my hands on. Somebody's missing out, and somebody's fortunate. Those two would be Sony and Microsoft, respectively.
You're the exception not the rule, which consoles are constantly sold out, the X/5 or the S? Exactly. Not saying people dont buy the S, however the consoles that are in most demand OTHER than the holidays because they are a bitch to find are the 5/X, and if were the reverse then that means the S would outsell the X/5 every damn month (which is doesnt)

I always see the Series S in store and listed on sale.
Define 'always' and 'sale'.

For availability, I've never seen an X or PS5 in a retail store. For the S, I've only recently seen it in stores the past month or two.

As for a sale....I'm doubtful a year old, sought out piece of tech with supply chain challenges was ever on sale.

Fellow platform warriors, cute. Even if they were doing that they decide to buy it so clearly they don't dislike it.

It's called having opinions on a forum. Question is why you're always so upset as if that piece of plastic was your mother. You always show up without fail.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Sometimes I think that USA means the world to some. PS5 is selling more than both Series consoles combined worldwide.
'MURICA !

Jokes aside, the US is the Xbox's biggest market share so for this region it makes sense if Xbox is selling more, for whatever reason be it availability or not.

For the last time, the console is available, because it has more stock being supplied. For every 10 series S that is being sold, another 10 is being supplied. XSX/PS5 dont have that luxury. They arent easy to make like XSS, which makes supplying it harder. XSS is easy to make, and is being supplied faster.

So yes when its the holidays and kids, adults are asking/wanting something that is NOT available, they will grab something that is, THAT IS SETTLING.
Then explain, how this console is having alot of stocks then. Because being available=sell alot, according to this argument. T

those who are buying the console, should decrease the stock. But the fact its available means, they are putting alot of stock, which indicates it being sold alot.

They sre getting something that is widely available because people dont want it compared to the things that are sold out
Its because their stock is low. and xss is getting alot, every time it sells out. So yes, it will sell more than them, as long as MS provides alot of stock for xss.

The S being available greatly benefits Microsoft right now. The S is entry level to a Series X, which I have no doubt I'll be snagging in the future. Until then, my son and I are gonna play the hell out of these sleek little beauties.

EDIT- And I have to add, watching my son open his and laying eyes on it for the first time prompted me to get another one. It's probably the most I've been impressed with a system since the PS2 Slim.

One thing this thread shows for sure is Xbox gamers do care about console hardware sales now. I remember there was a time when the narrative was being created that stated hardware sales don't matter anymore due to GamePass™

But now it looks like we all agree that console hardware sales matter, so this is great to know going forward. Thanks guys! :messenger_smiling:

Again ... Source?

It. was. a. majorly. down. month.

I've stated my support for the Series S for a long .... long time. But that doesn't change the numbers. What is this "huge boon" you refer too? It's a little easier to make so it's more readily available, but it's also not lighting up any charts. I can go get a Series S right now. I can't get a PS5 or an XSX.

Screen-Shot-2021-12-21-at-11-26-13-AM.jpg

What on earth is going on in this thread?
The article is the source. The Series S is selling well. That means more game sales for Microsoft. That means more accessory purchases for Microsoft. That means more subscriptions for Microsoft. Did you not read the article? The Series S IS selling well. So yes, a huge boon!

Thats why i didnt like the 3DS and i dont like the switch. There are people with different taste.

But you got to respect that some people invest a lot of money in their home entertainment system and just dont want a halfbaked console there. Quote and save it but in 2 years the Series S will drop of so heavily.

And I'd argue the best games tend to be focused on one sku type. For the most part if you're making a game for 5 different skus it's not going to be as easy as if you are making it for one sku. But at the end of the day, some of you guys are giving the Xbox Series S too much credit here. MS has never given us the numbers, so why act as if it's really been a huge boon for MS? Do we even know the ratio that the S and the X are being made in? I "thought" it was 60-40. With the 60% going toward the Series X. But I may be remembering that wrong.

Well.....

You knew what I'd say, because you know that's the correct answer. If it was so easy Sony's original internal studios would be making the PC versions along side console versions. So yes......they literally bought a PC port company to do those ports. It's a smart move for them.
And your argument would be subjective about the "best games." I think your bias is showing ;)

Lognor

Nah, those games tend to be the ones most people say look the best.
Oh you're talking about best looking. Got it. Can you say which games specifically? Because I'm going to bet whatever game you say is, or will be, on PC very soon ;)

No one is saying it isn't more work to develop for multiple boxes, but I think it's not that much work. And I've asked if you know otherwise to post your source. And you haven't been able to. So I'm going with my assertion. So no, it's not a big deal for MS or other devs to develop for the Series S and X and PC. So if it's not more work and they're selling a lot of Series S consoles, then yes, it was a great decision by Microsoft and shows a huge amount of foresight. Gotta hand it to MS! Well done.

I’m starting to think a lot of people that claim to have a series x actually have a series s.

Then why isn’t there an article about how, 2 days before Christmas, the one console you can actually buy is still sitting on shelves and available online at every major retailer Including a bundle with 2 games?
Is what I just said untrue or not fascinating? Does it not paint a picture considering the lead consoles go for double retail or close to it on resell sites?

I'll get a Series X when they are commonly available

I won't buy a PS5 because it's ugly... waiting for a Slim
Here at Finland series x seems to have archieved the point of being almost normally available.

Series S have been available almost always since the launch, but on last friday I saw our biggest electronic store chain to get series X on inventory at majority of the stores, bought mine from store at saturday and they are still available on almost same number of stores than on last weekend. At my local store inventory said "+5 units" on saturday, and it is still the same. I think it means 5-10 units.

This is kind of weird, since it is xmas in few days -> it seems that even series x is not really that popular, when they sit on the stores.

To be clear, it is not available on other chains I think, because this biggest chain have some kind of direct route for shipments and others dont etc.

PS5 consoles still sell out in minutes, while we are playstation land, it is surprise to me that just before xmas they cant sell series x out.

So, we are basically at the point where Series x is available, at least in some countries.

And I have been mostly happy with my new xbox, some small flaws (same with ps5) but owning all current gen consoles is just nice and they complete each other.

Did you even read the article ? The whole point of the article is that Series S is selling better than the other two because its routinely in stock.

I mean come on, man at least put some effort into it lol.

No. They EXCEEDED demand. It’s 2 days before Christmas. You know what the story is when can get them at GameStop and you don’t even need to buy a bundle.:messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

Duh. We don’t need an article to tell us that. That’s why it’s easy to call it an ad. In 2021 given where the industry is, the more relevant and news worthy article is how is it possible that a next gen system is sitting on shelves when PS4s are going for $300-400 used and PS5 and series x are going for $800-$1000.
By the way, whose alt are you again? That’s a familiar way of writing something for someone who joined a month ago.

First, not sure why a certain subset of users keep calling this article an ad. Business Insider is not a gaming website, or an MS affiliate .. it's just reporting business news. Should we also start calling topics about UK Physical charts ads now cause they skew heavily in one direction ?

Second, the console shortages and price gouging has been covered extensively on so many websites/articles already, it's also not relevant to this business insider article.

And finally, I'm definitely not Kretos or Thelastwords I can tell you that much :D
