Am I Alone in not buying the Elden Ring hype?

The problem comes when some people see "9" or "10" score and they think they are "missing out" regardless of the game its for them or not.

I'm sure most people here are grown ass adult with free will, dont buy a game based on hype of other people or high scores, buy it if YOU like what you see. We live in age of internet, you can easily find everything about a game before release, so you can make your damn mind.

I'm not surprised that it's getting high reviews. I've disagreed with gaming journalists and their braindead takes for ages now. There are no critical, watchful eyes in gaming journalism. I don't have any idea what this has to do with what I said, though.

the only thing thats piqued my interest, is ppl that say the exploration was cool and that the opening new pathways mechanic is weaved into the open world. That sounds good. But other than that idc. I kinda liked Dark souls. I really like demons souls remaster. Can't tolerate that frame pacing mess of bloodborne. And lets be honest, these idiots that can't shutup about souls games in every thread every week for the last decade put u off of the series altogether. As if the souls series invented any of these mechanics and they didn't already exist long before. i dont get why these games get succed off so hard

Reviewers have a major boner for open worlds that don't have markers so you just go around and explore cool stuff and find things on your own. For people who aren't really into that or very difficult games there is really nothing much that should motivate you to buy this game.

The gameplay I guess but the story is the same old confusing jibberish by the looks of it.

I will buy it soon after taking my full time with forbidden west as I am loving it but I just like third person action games in general. I also really like that Elden Ring is much more lenient towards saves and progress compared to prior From Games by the sound of it.

I actually want to like these games. I have Bloodborne on my PS after getting it for free and I keep trying to make myself see what so many people see and it just never clicks with me.

FOMO seems to be damn near crippling to a certain age range.

The hype was insane for Lost Ark. I find Lost Ark to be a grindy pay to win mobile game. I bought the $100 founders and leveled a class to 50 enough to unlock two power passes.

Eldren Ring has more hype. I am not a souls fan but every one in saying there's treasure and loot all over the world filled with secrets and epic bosses. Sounds found to me, but if the loot is not rewarding it will be a bust for me.

Problem with hype is Streamers hype up games. A game great for a streamer could be a terrible game for everyone else. Streamers want games they can play 12hrs a day and make a ton of content for. Normal people do not want to play a game that feels like a job.

Nope. Nothing about looks special to me. But I don’t really like open world games.

Most of these games are technical messes. Im not even a frames whore, locked 30 is all I expect.

I dont expect the sales to match the rating.

If you are not into Fromsoftware games before, but somehow you'd like to try out, the best game I'll recommend you is Sekiro, the most new player friendly Fromsoftware game.

It had Tutorial, Training mode, Hints everywhere, a pause menu, easier to understand level design, a more focused plot line compare to other souls game, and lastly Death is much more tolerable in this game.

You can't understand the souls effect until a game triggers it one day.
It was Dark Souls 1and especially Bloodborne for me (I played them YEARS LATER).
Before that... I was like you and also a souls hater (because of hype overdose) before the revelation.
Sadly nothing guarantee that it will happen to you. You'll see and there is nothing wrong if it won't.

Look at it this way if you like Souls/FROM games, there is a 100%chance you are going to enjoy Elden Ring. a lot

If you hate their game design or aren't a fan, then this one may not convert you, either look for other game or try it for cheap in 6 months.

From games have a very specific appeal, but they aren't designed to be played by 'everyone'

Congrats to the people that are excited but the taint of bullshit souls games are all over this. I never even thought twice on this game once I knew who was making this. I have tried to many times to get into the roll around thumbstick simulators to know From Software games are just awful to me.

I thought your rambling about Souls games being an overrated fad that everyone was just pretending to like to be cool was over?

That 97 metacritic and the extreme excitement says otherwise.

I've never been interested in FROM software games before, but this is one that has interested me enough to at least check out. Nothing I've seen really seems to indicate it's deserving of the reviews it seems to be getting, but again thats coming from someone who's never cared for any of these types of games before....

There’s a lot of hype games that do fuck all for me but I almost always see why someone else would like it. Watching footage of Elden ring and not understanding why people are getting hyped is hard for me to understand

Just played a little. It's basically dark souls. I like the series but man I wasnt ready for just how similar this would feel. I noped the fuck out after the first few minutes and I havent played a souls game in 3 years.

Graphics are really rough. Catacombs look like shit. I was shocked at how bad they look. Dark Souls 2 post downgrade had better looking indoor areas. Outdoors, it looks pretty decent, but I think bloodborne, sekiro and dark souls 3 looked better. I just dont care for the lighting.

Well, I don't know what to say to this. I personally think the games are a bit of a meme and are overrated, but that's my contrary opinion.

Watching my gf and friends play it. It looks solid af, and I'm a souls-game virgin. The older ones never had a setting or atmosphere I could resonate with (esp w/ depression), but this one looks be so much more for it's open world. I'll probably get it next week after fucktons of work is over.
