John says he still plays Elden Ring on Xbox due to the larger VRR range and forcing 120hz option.
Also confirms again that Halo Infinite does support VRR after all, it's the game itself that causes issues.
Even forcing 120hz from what I knew you don't fix drops below 48 FPS with 120hz and VRR. Maybe it's a bit better but isn't it exactly a dramatic improvement 40 FPS at 120hz. The improvement it's just compared locked 30 FPS.

About the 2 hour trial that's "forced" wait and see on this, Playstation is infamous for having programs and perks that they drop quickly when it becomes an issue. They'll drop it and keep the price up, while people cry out they'll ignore you.

Trials were a perk of PS PLUS ages ago, but that got dropped too.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
If VRR it's activated the frequency profile can cause issue on BC mode, doesn't matter if not works for PS4 games. My wild guess VRR can't work for the PS4 games because they use the "past" hdmi format.

Huh that's new info for me. Good to know.

Bro, we don’t even know if it really exists or was exploratory. It was never officially announced, and had nothing to do with the original tier announcements.

Time limited trials?

They are in the marketing of the new tiers.
Show me the official marketing of those tiers, because it wasn’t there a month ago when they announced the tiers, and this place is acting like this is new news from the supposed leak last week.

Not saying it won’t be there, but the way people are losing their minds over this, lol.

Convenient bad memory is hilarious though. Keep going.

So to my ORIGINAL POINT.

They've marketed perks before that they've QUICKLY DROPPED and people HAVE forgotten about.

IN FACT, this is the same old song and dance they did 8 years ago.

It wasn't known that devs were required to let Sony put out a 2 hour trial of their game (if it's of the $60+ variety.)

The "forcing" + charging money for it is what is irking some people.

People really should just wait for it all to pan out and for more info to come out though. If devs aren't screaming about this, then why should consumers? It's just a perk of a membership.. I find it odd it's locked behind the highest tier personally and kindof find that highest tier a bit comical in general but it's not harming devs lol

It'll be dropped less than a year into the perk.

No worries from anyone, nobody will remember it then either, you'll be paying for another promised then lied about perk.

So stop crying and don’t buy that tier. Like I plan not to.
I proved you 100% wrong about my original point, and that's the best ad hominem response you can muster?

The issue isn't me paying/not paying. It's that what I'm saying is based on historical FACT. I know facts are hard to deal with, it's much easier to create your own.

You win at the internet today, sir!

It’s not that, it’s just every one of your posts are always a paragon of negativity.

Sony removed rooms from Playstation Home YEARS ago!
I'm still waiting for that room where I can view my trophies in 3D, it's what brought the whole "trophy" branding around.

Remember that Catfishing nonsense people would do on there? Ralphing or something?

Home was a fun experiment. We need it or something like 1vs100(xbox 360) back.

Seriously. Home being revived in VR would be a killer app. Especially if people can have their own liveries, etc, like VR Chat.

Dude probably plays on Xbox because he started there, how is he going to transfer his save? Was he going to start again on PS because of VRR but decided not too due to the 8hz difference in the min range?

Xbox fans were praising VRR even on games where it didn't work, goes to show how this stuff works. Now it ain't about PS5 not having VRR is about the VRR min range and the LFC or some other thing.

LFC, the next acronym war.

We've seen enough posts around various topics from people saying they stopped playing X game on console because they started it on PC or something with much better performance, so that is not the most surprising thing in the first place.

And I'm not sure which game people were praising non-existent VRR in. If this is a slight towards Halo: Infinite, the VRR not kicking in with the 120hz has been known since the first DF video around the campaign launch, and the 60hz mode is 99.7% locked to 60 FPS anyway so there's hardly any drops there at all to observe (source: VGTech).

-

Other than that as I mentioned on a post in the last page, Elden Ring has plenty frequent drops below the 48 FPS range on PS5 where the VRR stops working, so anything below that will be just as juddery as if there was no VRR in the first place, so John's comment isn't wrong. Both Series X and PS5's lowest recorded FPS in Elden Ring is 42 FPS (again, source: VGTech) so it doesn't leave the VRR range on Xbox at all. Hence the perceived smoother experience in stress areas.

The one thing VRR does not fix, however, are the massive frame time spikes so even if you're within the FPS range, there will still be *some* obvious judder like crowded areas in Cyberpunk or even places in Elden Ring I bet.

''what insomniac is doing here is the perfect example of what VRR should offer''

lol i guess my man riki gloss over that part
He could have easily have just compared it to the VRR offerings on Microsofts first party single player games with ray tracing

But the PS4 games (BC games essentially) don't even utilize VRR as per John in this video (and I'm sure elsewhere).

I imagine they're following the rigid hdmi forum limit, and Xbox may have done some more custom implementation to have a lower VRR threshold.
PS4 games on ps5 don’t drop any frames so it’s all a bit moot. However, if some patching were to be done to unlock the BC framerates then it could be useful.

Also, funny comment from Alex regarding Bloodborne, said that it would run better on Xbox because of its VRR implementation, lol. Glad John schooled him on that 🤓

Alex is right, it's not to do with VRR but the fact that the game suffers from frametime spikes, so running it at 120hz would soften those, it wouldn't totally fix it but it would run better that way, Rich steps in and clarifies.

Enjoyed this week's show. Poor Alex wounded about PC gaming. I feel his pain slightly, must be rough being dedicated to his level to the platform and seeing less than steller support from studios and publishers.

Hopefully it gets sorted soon.
