DualSense Edge controller announced

For those having issues with battery life, id highly recommend buying one of these docking stations. You can simply set on your controller on it after you're done. Keep it next to your couch if you are lazy. plugs into any AC wall socket.

The official PS one is pricey at around $30 but you can get a third party one for around $17-20.

Good luck finding any kind of replacement for your gamepads built-in batteries in a few years.
Easy. There's tons of modders doing batteries for all kinds of older hardware.

I think the issue is more the Dualshock 4 and Dualsense having terrible battery life. My DS3, Wii U Pro controller, Switch Pro controller and Elite v2 last for a week or so at a time with moderate to heavy use.

It’s a non issue for me because I play at a desk and have a USB C connected at all times for my Elite v2, MS wireless headset, Switch pad etc.
I just prefer having removable AA batteries.

I purchased my Eneloops 5 years ago and they still hold charge incredibly well. If I turn off vibration, my Xbox controller lasts 2 weeks before replacing.

Can't say the same for any of my Playstation controllers that I have purchased over the years. My Dual Shock 4 sucks balls.

The price is really going to dictate if this thing is a good thing or not, with a few less features than the Xbox Elite 2 it shouldn't be the same price.

What is good, is that if it's cheaper it'll make competition for 1st party high end controllers, and maybe the Elite 3 will have to come down slightly in price.

Only 2 back buttons is a real downer on this, removable sticks does as everyone has stated remove the stick drift complaint.

The awful battery life of the Dual Sense will probably haunt this thing, maybe even impact it worse.

Already had two Dualsense controllers die on me whilst I’ve never had a 360, XO or XSX controller die on me. No doubt the build quality on this will be better.

I'm really not sure what bargain basement Sony get's it's batteries from but the Official Xbox Battery pack I've owned for 4-5 years is still going strong on 30ish hours of life, with my newer one almost exceeding 40 hours, the newer battery is so good it's to the point where I get a little surprised when I need to charge it.

Sony needs to get it's controller battery tech RIGHT, it's 2022 FFS.

It's not that people have the concurrent hours gaming sessions draining the battery, it's the frequency which they need to charge it which is irritating them.

Your post is a Sony apologist post for a shitty thing Sony is actively choosing to do.

The company doesn't actually care that you defend it's shitty practices, you're wasting your time defending them.

Even at it's PEAK it was impossible to get good long life batteries for the Dual Shock 4, I tried many and it's full of fucking snakes, they put a case over a smaller battery and say it's a longer life one.

Elite v2 price is £159.99.

This has to come in at £129.99 or less IMO.

The Elite doesn’t just have the added features but the thing is built with quality components and feels like a premium device in hand. I’ve not felt this yet but it looks like typical Dualsense materials.

£129.99 would make this a fantastic purchase.

Yeah, high end controllers really need... high end quality. If it's something that can be broken out of the box like the Elite controller, it's not worth it.
The only controller I have ever had break on me was the Elite Series 2. For a $200 controller, it should have been indestructible and yet with very little use, it broke. I have used my Series X controller a lot longer than the Elite and it works as good as the day I bought it.
You would think with all of the complaints of the first one that they would have gotten the 2nd one right.

This controller is aimed at people like me. Who play FPS shooters and use the cable to reduce any input latency.

Just give me the price and date please.

Actually my experience with the regular Xbox Series controller is terrible too, I have had 3 so far (in a little more than a year) and all have various problems.

When can I preorder it. I have four controllers right now, two of them have drift and I’m not confident in the new ones. I’ll pay whatever the fuck I have to, just give me a controller that I can buy replacement parts for. I’m gonna bind those back buttons to wiggle on dead by daylight so I don’t have to destroy my joystick trying to get the killer to drop me.

Not a single mention of better battery life on the blog post ugh, was hoping they would bump it up atleast a little bit.
There has been no magic improvement in battery technology and they ain't going to be adding a bigger (and therefore heavier) battery to an already porky controller.

You can get roughly equal battery life if you turn off the extra features, as they are what use most of the extra power.

Yes, battery life is great as long as you don't use the controller.

I’ll buy it.

Rather buy one of these than go through a couple of controllers that have stick drift.

I know you can replace a stick entirely on standard controllers but this one seems very easy to do compared to ripping apart the controller just to replace the stick modules.

Yup, my controllers never run out of juice midgame cuz they are always at full charge when i pick them up, and my launch controller charge still last around 10 hours.

The new Edge controller looks good, might be my next controller if not too expensive.

I can't believe people are complaining about the DualSense battery life. It's 10-12 hours. Get 2 and a dock, it's not a problem.

Over 5 hours of straight gaming without a break can't be healthy.

If you don't dock and just recharge when needed it gets somewhat aggravating. Comparing to the switch pro controller that has a battery twice as big, yeah the DS battery is tiny.

If it comes in cheaper than the Elite 2 this will be a win. I’m looking to get a Pro controller for either system and this may be the one.

Sony has lost it when it comes to design, I can't believe they couldn't come up with something better looking.
I don’t think it looks bad .. it’s just a tad bit too big to my dual shock loving hands.
