Queen Elizabeth II has passed away

RIP.

I'm embarassed for that awful forum.
The decline over the past 3 years has been absolutely insane. They over moderated too hard to the left. Doing so they got rid of most of the vocal opposition to the extremist views. Then it just created an echo chamber and a place for that extreme narrow minded far left to fester and grow.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
RIP.

Guess the pubs in the UK will be busy tonight having a drink in her honor?

Not an British but I guess I'll play some Acorn computer games tonight and maybe play some ZX spectrum games for the the country of UK.

You know, I've heard Sinclair who made the ZX Spectrum was knighted by the queen. He must have been ecstatic when it happened.

Anyone have any good links to objective but fair articles, opinion pieces, or Youtube videos describing the life and times of Her Majesty?

You're going to have to wait a month or two for that, both sides are currently having a wrestling match on both sides of the extreme, and that's going to mess up the algorithms on several sites, including Youtube.

just took a quick peek at the other place and apparently clear violations of their own rules they sometimes unfairly punish people for is are perfectly fine for the Queens thread for some reason.

Been a while since I posted on GAF, but had to tonight to pay my respects (and thank god for this site - I saw the thread "over there" and it was franky disgusting). She was one hell of a symbol and someone utterly dedicated to service.

QEII did much more good than bad, and I believe with William and Kate the future is good hands. In the meantime I really hope the new King can finally kick off the cunt Andrew into permanent obscurity.

My condolences to the folks across the pond who admired her. She had quite an interesting life, that's for sure. As an American, I can't say that I truly understand the emotional significance of royalty, but I can respect it as a historically and culturally significant institution that provided a sense of pride, identity, and happiness for lots of people. I hope we can all take some inspiration from her accomplishments.
I'm from a constitutional monarchy, so I'll take a shot at this.

A monarch is like a symbol of the state/country without political affiliation. They are less transient than politicians and especially in times of crisis or upheaval can offer support or solidarity without the political baggage a Trump or Biden would carry, making them easier to 'rally around'. If they perform this task well their words start to gain a certain moral weight, with which (if they are wise/thoughtful) they can exert a moderating influence on public opinion.
A lot of the emotion also comes from the more theatrical and glamorous aspects of the tradition, after all kings and queens in their splendid castles populate the stories we are all told from a very young age, so in some sense they are a living connection to history and myth. Throw all of that into a bowl and you've got royalty.

Bingo.

It's less about the person, and more what they represent. The weight of history and time, encapsulated in a human being. The anthropomorphic personification of a national identity, steeped in battle, ceremony, pomp, circumstance, honour and service. In many ways, the Queen was one of the last things that connected modern Britain to that idealised past.

She had a hell of a ride over 96 years. Respect to her for the good she accomplished in that time, condolences for her family and her people that loved or respected her.

I found out while reading about this that now that Charles is taking over, it becomes the third Caroline era, since apparently Carolus is latin for Charles.

True, but this still depends on the person. If Elizabeth had been a promiscuous, hard drinking socialite who always manages to come across as indifferent and selfish in times of hardship, she could have irrevocably tarnished the tradition and all of those high minded ideals she is expected to personify.

BTW, this seems to be the last public photograph taken of her, it's actually pretty iconic IMHO. The way she barely even rises over the mantlepiece. Vulnerable but dignified and warm.

Great picture. Lets face it the old bird was a dude. My grandma popped her cloggs long before i knew her. Lizzie filled a gap god rest her soul.

She became Queen four years before Sputnik 1 was launched..

..and two years before Albert Einstein died.
A lifetime can be a long time. I work in an assisted living home and last year our oldest resident died at the ripe old age of 93 (IIRC). While making arrangements it occurred to us that she was born in same year, same city as Anne Frank.

Less than 2 days before her passing she welcomed in our new PM which shows her complete dedication and servitude for the country. A rare role model that carried out her duties in a way that almost doesn't exist anymore in sea of pretenders. Many won't understand why so many people care, but to quite a sizeable amount of people, the nation state and an identity tied to a nation that tries to do the right thing by people still matters. As does history.

She's been a grandmother of sorts to all, a calming influence and figurehead of stability through wars, economic and social crisis. Whilst the world and culture has changed so much, she's served as a reminder of the values of the old world that are still so relevant today. Duty, dignity, integrity and family. Rest in peace.

I'm not for any monarchy, but I do have a certain amount of respect for her. Also living to be level 96 is impressive in itself. RIP.

I didn't realize how frail and ill she looked recently. She has always looked very elderly since I can remember, so my mind just didn't notice any difference when I saw her meet Liz Truss.

Not sure why people would say "good riddance" and yell its a good thing she died, and actually laugh at the situation. Fuck Era. I wonder if it's because these morons feel its empowering to go against the tide, and wishing harmful thoughts against ANYONE powerful/famous/rich makes them the good guys? Is that just for being "edgy"?

Dem aliens? All seriously though a little surreal, had a similar personal experience recently right at the moment of the passing of my father. Something and some things that happened which was just far too coincidental but left me deeply comforted. Left me convinced that humans are extra dimensional beyond death, either that or humanity is being fucked with up there. Never tried DMT. Been curious if other people have had similar experiences when someone has passed, and yes also aware it could just be a coincidence.

I’m usually someone who doesn’t get emotional with 99% of notable deaths, and I did for this and I’m not British and have never been to the UK. Don’t know what it is about this one that really got me. RIP. There probably will never be another one quite like her again.
She was the sensible mother/grandmother figure for not just the UK but a bunch of nations, even the ones not still in the commonwealth. The only people alive who had anyone but her as Queen would be over 70 years old to this year.

She was the comforting but not commanding voice from the hard times of every generation since. It’s been so long pretty much almost everyone can’t remember a time without her being that voice, and losing that voice is like losing a big part of the world.

RIP Elizabeth II.

I really admired her and the work she did for the Commonwealth.

I had a look at the other forum and I really don't know what to say, just people repeating the same rude jokes and historical inaccuracies.

Seriously. Even the 4chan threads are showing more sensitivity.
Yea I don't think 4chan makes a good barometer here, considering how viciously racist posters are on there in general. Had it been a non-white figure of similar social standing it would be an entirely different sentiment over there lol

Resetera are loving it!
Of course they are. The site has turned to garbage for a long while. It was confusing why they hated her and it’s mostly cause of her being rich or existing.
If the person doesn’t have (they/them) next to their name like (PBUH) for Muhammad, they don’t give a shit.
That’s why I only browse the few gaming communities there. Also why one of the guilds distanced themselves from the ERA name.
