Yes now Nintendo is crying because a clown is outraged. Come to real world, the HR and Marketing will get some more work this week and next week you won't even remember this case of abuse from the japanski..
No one is braking a long standing relationship for a clown on TikTok.
You do realize that tweet from her account got 220K likes - 15K Quote tweets and 57.3K Retweets and is picked up by big gaming sites do you?

For a main character in a video game you're looking at least about two weeks worth of full day sessions. Most average out at a month with longer titles going up to six months. You're vastly underrating how much work goes into voicing.
Not for Bayonetta. We actually have a pretty good estimate how much work it is, because she's revealed her past work on the franchise. The entire casting for Bayonetta 1 took 16 hours spread over 4 days in 4 hour shifts.

This also adds up with her 4k offer and what other voice actors have been saying: a typical 4 hour session is about 1k USD. So 4k seems about right for a 4 day session.

The offer really isn't as ridiculous as she would like you to believe.

You're pulling those numbers out of your arse.

Here Helena states that for Bayo 1 it took 4 days at one 4 hour session per day. So 16 hours spread across 4 days for a full game..

Go ask people who star in Rockstar Games/CDPR/Bioware titles if those numbers are out of my ass. Granted those games have a lot more content and require motion capture.

> Platinum offers a deal.
> She rejects it.
> Platinum raises the offer and presents it again.
> She rejects it again.
> Platinum says "fuck it" and hires someone else for, more than likely, a higher price. Thus, implying that it isn't just about money.
> Both the actress and Platinum are calling each other "liars", so who knows what is true or not.

You (and a lot of people) are hellbent on saying this is a problem and not what can literally be described as every monetary transaction in human history.
And both Nintendo and Platinum will continue to work (be it together or separate) while Hellena is burning those bridges.
Yeah because gaming actors and actresses around the world are tweeting their rejection story and getting thousands of retweets and likes…

I don't need to. Here we have the woman in question directly contradicting what you said.

You pulled figures out of your arse to support your claim. There is proof from the horses mouth that you're wrong. Stop simping.

Games must not cost 70-80€ but every person that make a contribution to a game has to get thousands in money and royalties.... Either some of you just type because you want to be part of the outrage or you clearly are not thinking at all.

It backfired because when they outsource a game they don’t expect to get negative news unrelated to the quality of the game but the bad management of that studio and how they handle situations like this. Nintendo prioritizes their image. This isn’t a good look for them.

You *greatly* overestimate how much people care about this. I guarantee you this won’t damage the sales of the game *at all*, it will still sell gangbusters, and most people will forget by month’s end.

Looks like you've answered your own question why that comparison doesn't hold up.
Still doesn't deny that people here think voicing a main character is under a week's worth of work for the majority, at this rate all voice actors would be rich as fuck knocking out multiple starring games a week.

It's not simping to point out how most people in this thread are shitting on actors and over simplifying their job, we even have people cheering on AI voices to be used instead because God forbid these actors get paid a decent amount.

They can have 3bilions likes. Next week I will make a thread and ask what has happened last week that has affected you, and no one is going to mention this entitled lady. Because of internet there are millions of people that are getting access to information and many may agree with her but no one is going to make any action because this does not affect them, people die in some countries because of wars and no one give a shit, people are being sold on Facebook as slaves in some countries and no one give a shit including you. No one cares until it start affecting you personally. That's a fact, you can have an opinion but to take an action you need a reason not just thoughts.

SAG Interactive/Video Game Rates
SAG Interactive Scale Off-Camera: Up to 3 voices / 4 Hours $902.00
SAG Interactive Scale Off-Camera: Up to 6-10 voices / 6 Hours $1,804.25

For an entire game it‘s low.

Given she's British, I'm assuming Equity rates would apply as opposed to SAG, so it looks like she'd get £250-350 per hour, plus usage fee of 50% of total pay, to a maximum of £1500.

I guess four days work for a major character, so 4 hours times 4 equals a total of 16 hours.

16 times 350 is 5600, plus usage brings it in around £7000, or $8000

So yeah, they're fucking her by about half.

Based upon her stated hours worked for Bayo 1, she was offered $250 per hour

Which co-incidentally lines up exactly with the Non-union pay rates:

She was offered the going rate. She was offered the industry accepted rate. $250 per hour is good money.

You're trying to shift the goalposts by over-inflating the amount of work to make the offer seem less than it was. You've been caught out. Stop simping.

$250 per hour was about to put her on the bread lines...

My guess is that they wanted her for less than 4 sessions too. Character probably gets killed off fairly early in the game and she saw this was going to be her last chance at a check.

You seem more pissed than the actual devs at Platinum though.

Is Simping all you can say when multiple others in this thread that I've responded to were clearly inferring ALL voice over work is a quick day or two job and that actors should stfu or else they'll be replaced by AIs that the very same people in this thread are cheering on? Also look up return fees.

A month of actual work or, rather, you might get called back a week later to read another line again, to make some adjustments.

I appreciate I was dismissive and came across as a prick. But I’m bored of insanely minor personal and professional decisions being blown out of proportion. Platinum aren’t that fussed about her voice, hence the pay offer.

Acting is a precarious job. Everyone knows that.

VO is probably even harder as ugly people get to do it.

The replacement VA Jennifer Hale liked the following twitter post less than 4 hours ago

Now that's reasonable terms. So if the rumours about Taylor's 4 day session a 4 hours is right then Taylor's hourly pay (4000 /4 days /4 hours = 250 USD) was exactly what's described as the standard actor rate.

Edit: Ah, so the 4 day 4 hour details wasn't even a rumor, Taylor was in fact the one who brought those facts to light. Well, there it is.. So in the end it's all about Taylor's own quantified entitlements and knee-jerk emotions.

I'm not boycotting this game. I had a physical copy of Bayo 3 on preorder before this controversy. I have Bayo 2 on Switch, Bayo 1 on Steam, and just recieved my Bayo 1 physical Switch copy last week. I don't condone Hellena breaking NDA and going scorched Earth here. She is in no position to drag the new actress Jennifer Hale, a fellow SAG VA Actress, down in the dirt with her issues of pay.

According to IMDB she hasn't worked on any other VA role since 2014 other than her Bayonetta gigs. Does anyone really think that she was waiting and and counting on Bayo 3 for 8 years to get her through till the next paycheck? Not trashing her craft here, but if she expects more VA work after this she has another thing coming. Once Hellena refused the offer Nintendo/Platinum were going to get another actress to voice Bayonetta any way.

I'm not big on boycotting in the first place, but I doubt this twitter outrage mob is going to affect sales of this niche game one way or another. The hard work from the developers behind this game have nothing to do with this controversy, and should not have to suffer because of one scortched Earth voice actress. I still say Bayo 3 still sells 1-1.5 million copies world wide.

Didn't Taylor say that 4K was the final offer, which means they were offering below the industry standard?

IDK. But you're jumping to conclusions. I mean, it's not uncommon that the final offer is the same as the first offer. She could be deliberately wording it this way. We just don't know.

4K is just too low, especially for an established role in a relatively successful series and considering she's done good work with it in the past -- it's definitely not easy to get good voice acting.

I agree it feels immoral even if it's legal and fans should know her side of the story.

I don't know about the rest of it though. Calling for a boycott seems like bad PR move for her. Anyone who sympathises with how they treated her would (probably) not get the game anyway.

The biggest thing I've learned from this is that VAs make awful money and it seems like a terrible way to make a living unless you are Troy Baker or Nolan North. Think about the process of applying for a job, only you have to do that and land the job about once a week to make sure a steady stream of work is flowing. There's no way you can be just a really good "British lady actor," you have to be good at basically everything in order to make sure you are cast in as much as possible.

A lot of actors do VA as a side gig. Very few can do it as only a main source of income and support a lifestyle.
No one forced her into her career choice, so not going to get a big amount of sympathy from me especially if the amount of hours required for $4K was about ~16 hours of work.

Not even legal so that is BS. Unions know all about the goings ons of contracts, and wouldn't allow pay bellow the industry standard. So no, they didn't offer below industry standard. All the Scooby Doo Internet Slueths can deduce what they want, but even in Hellena's own video she said that what was offered to her was legal, and went on to characterize the deal as an "immoral" offer instead.

Go look up in how many games Troy Baker has been in and how many Nolan North has been in. She has been in just a few games and most of them have been as Bayonetta.

Bayonetta is a low selling franchise and the amount of work we're talking about is probably 16 hours or less.
My point is that not all actors/ roles are beholden to time sheets.

Despite her not being in as many roles as Troy she should be BEYOND a time sheet after portraying Bayonetta for a span of a decade. She MADE Bayonetta as famous and popular as she is.

It's called professional integrity and respect. She was offered neither.

No, she didn’t. What made Bayonetta who she was was the writing, design, and gameplay. Literally anyone could have voiced her. She is not beholden to the character.

Wowzers, I just got done making a very simple corporate commercial, and our VO artist cost more than 4k for a 30 second spot,,,,
Yeah, that's either a well-known celebrity or a lie.

My aunt's husband is a VA and has done VO/acted in commercials for mainstream italian TV. Nowhere near those numbers.

You don't know how much that $4,000 covers, under a week's work, it's great, for four to six months work, not so good.
It’s good fir VA work. If you read up on it there or not many people who can live off VA work and those who do do many different projects for a week.

You just keep digging that hole.

You made unfounded claims in regard to the offer made to Helena, specifically inferring significantly more work time than was reality. The VA in question, the one being discussed, the one upon whose claims this entire thread revolves around is on record stating hours that are in line with the offer and which completely contradict the numbers fabricated to defend her. Stop wriggling, stop trying to shift the conversation away from your clear bullshitting, and maybe, just maybe, consider that you're in the wrong here.

And yes, you're simping. You don't give a shit about all of the other people who worked on the project and whose work and jobs she's calling to undermine. You don't care about their hours, their lack of recognition or how one spiteful entitled VA is using social media to try and ruin what they've all worked so hard for. No - all you see is the girl making accusations and here you are, making up lies to defend that poor lady. That's why I'm saying you're simping - because you're simping. Irrational, unthinking, simping.
