Microsoft Raising Prices on New, First-Party Games Built for Xbox Series X|S to $70 in 2023

He never lied about this or said it would never happen. Its only forum dwellers (not xbox fans) that seemed to think this wouldn't happen.

These consoles launched 2 years ago, one raised prices 2 years ago, the other did not. You can guess who is who.
Xbox fans have been sharing and posting memes across social media about the $70 price point of Sony games and you're trying to tell me Xbox fanboys believed it wouldn't happen? lol

It is logical.

To say it's NOT logical then you're saying they wouldn't consider increasing the price of Game Pass or even consider releasing their games months later instead of day one on the service if they're not seeing enough improvements in the future.

I'm yet to see any service that significantly worsens the quality in response to stagnating subscriber growth.

Company buys up multiple studios to provide first party content for GP. then you posit that said company will proceed to keep the content off Gamepass for months, removing one of the main draws for the service.

I think the issue was Sony didn't have to do it 2 years ago. there was no reason. How is that hard to understand?

Damn some of those Forza Motorsport screens in the article are lookin' niiiiice. Can't wait to try it, it'll be my first proper FM title since 2, though I've played the last couple of Horizons.
OT, expected and not frazzled one bit. For those whom these things matter they'll usually wait for sales or can Gamepass. I've been paying Day 1 prices for years, and paid even more back in the 90's for cartridge games. I assumed it was known that the industry would adopt the $70 regional equivalent going forward as many companies have been dropping hints for a good few years now. A lot of warriors looking forward to duking it out though which is a shame.

The only system/publisher whose pricing scheme interests me would be Nintendo, I want to see what they'll do for their next console. Do they feel that they can get away with a price hike, despite their games rarely going on sale? I don't think they will honestly in part due to perception of the hardware limitations, but then again who knows maybe they'll get cocky.

Both HBO and Disney used to release their big movies on the streaming service and now that has either stopped or been reduced. They also increased their subscription service.

Based on your logic, their service has gotten worse.

Yes, it happens, and don't pretend that it doesn't. It's a logical step companies make.

Midnight Suns has taught me that $70 more than I'm willing to pay on day of release.

I never had an opinion before yesterday, and would probably have said $70 doesn't phase me. But when it came time to click the purchase button I just couldn't do it and Wishlisted the game instead.

This isn't an attack on the pricing scheme, just an observation I made about my own willingness to seal such a deal. It turns out I can be patient.

Name one person on this forum who said MS will never increase prices.

Why are you trying to extrapolate a meme done at a certain point of time as being a forever thing?

So now we all think Microsoft are going to have sick next gen games in 2023?

I'm trying to work out what's happening?

At least we got forza and halo at 60 dollars lol

Prediction for 2023; Gold is discontinued. Base Game Pass now required to play online @ £8.99 a month (£107.88 a year).

That would be suicide, not everyone wants game pass. Unless online went free. Forcing people to the current highest tier of game pass (ultimate) to play online is a bad idea and already messed up for them when they tried to double the price of gold only for it to backfire.

Maybe a lower tier of game pass which is the same price as a year of gold is now would be a better idea. Maybe no day one games and a little tester of what game pass is. Then add online to all tiers as it's only on ultimate ATM.

We had a pandemic and people weren't going to theaters for a while...

Not to mention Disney's been pumping billions of USD In permanent content to their service every year. Library quality is increasing year on year.

But you clearly had issues comprehending what I posted earlier. I clearly specified "in response to stagnating growth". Disney Plus subscriber count gas been growing at a very steady clip

Let's try to keep these arguments honest and logical.

Where did I say people on this forum said it?

I clearly said Xbox fanboys on SOCIAL MEDIA criticizing Sony for charging Sony gamers $70 for their first-party titles.

This has been happening for years and now you come up with this lame response instead of holding Xbox fanboys accountable.

You're going to hold accountable gamers on social media (which you didn't even specify who) about memes and laughs regarding whether a video game company will increase prices in the future?

Those unknown gamers have bothered you that much for two years, you bring them up now?

Probably because back then rom chips cost a lot and no game companies were making giant profits. Even Nintendo wasn't raking it in like now. Video gaming back then was such a mosh pit of weird shit like Atari, Turbografx, a half broke Sega, and the industry was the fraction of the size now.

Now, game companies are raking in tons of profit due to digital being cheap form of distribution (no inventory or packaging) and mtx fees can make any game a big money maker.

Any big company claiming they need $10 more per game for survival is lying. It's purely about profit boosting.
Completely disagree, but I understand where you're coming from. And I respect your opinion.

But that's not what that article says, though.

The competition has been happily charging $70 for cross gen games since 2020. MS has similarly released AAA first party games in that period and still pegged the price at $60 in that time.
Such a weird post. Cross gen GT7 can be $70, but it would have been haram for MS to put a $70 price tag on FH5?
Sony had some games they released at $59.99 too and even if you want to dismiss that, third-party games have been $69.99 on Xbox as well. The notable games that come to mind for Xbox, where they charged $59.99 are Forza Horizon and Halo Infinite.

Examples of Sony games that were $59.99.
  • Sackboy Adventure
  • Miles Morales
  • (Horizon Forbidden West, if you count the free upgrade)
If you simply want to push the fact that Xbox has had 1 or 2 more games at $59.99 than Sony, then sure, you can take the win if you want lol.

EDIT
Microsoft has been better this generation against Sony when it comes to their "play anywhere" system. I wonder how that will translate over now when they have officially acknowledged $70 pricing.

The Suicide Squad was released on streaming and theatres the same day
Disney released their movies around the same time frame and waited to release its movies on the streaming service after the Black Widow movie.

I didn't have issues comprehending anything, you're trying to move the goalpost with your god-awful argument and it didn't work.

From an accounting standpoint it won't matter whether Diablo is released before or after the deal is finalized. All of ABK's assets will become MS's property, including the profit s of D4.

Now whether the deal goes through or not is a different topic.
But that's also the important part. If it doesn't ms doesn't hardly get a dime other the physical sales of the game which will probably be the least on Xbox.

It didn't bother me because I didn't care. I just read it. But you seem to be bothered by the fact that I'm bringing it up. Xbox fans such as yourself get really defensive when people call out Xbox fanboys.

PS gamers are on twitter laughing at Xbox fans right now for this very reason. All you have to do is search $70 games on twitter and you see exactly what I'm talking about.

Stop getting defensive, dude. lol

In terms of letting the competition go first, it certainly was effective, for me at least - cause I thought it was already @ $70.

For more than 2 years, yea. While Sony and other 3rd party publishers have been @$$ **ing everyone, but suddenly MS is TeH EviLz hypocrite lol.
No, they aren't (unless they said otherwise, I don't know what Phil has said), the fanboys are who were flapping on before are who will suddenly be OK now with this.
It was anti-consumer before, now "but I have Gamepass".
