Ever since the PS1, Sony was always trying to "get with the times" and be as mainstream/casual as possible. That's how the Playstation brand got so big in the first place.

I dislike it too but it's their proven strategy and it's working well for them so far.

I get that this can come off as cringe because people who are part of a larger corporation is making them and corporate entities making memes can be lame and off putting, but what does this have to do with the youth?

The majority of memes that get made and shared online aren't even made by gen Z, they're mostly made and shared by millennials. Hell even gen X gets in on memes.
Memes have become a fixture in pop cultures as a whole, it's not a "youth" thing.

The audience for Sony 1sty party titles also skews older as well.

I dunno if that is Ellie, but it's a reference to the "disbelief" gif of one of the GIANTBOMB originals (I forget their name, he's not on camera often like Brad, Vinny or Jeff were).

I didn't expect for those in here to agree, just was expressing my point of view on the cringe...if Xbox did it with halo id be like Greenberg, this is funny to you not intended audience.

I'm the "young man yelling out clouds" posting this on this forum. I think my point stands it appeals more to an older demographic. The husbands of the wives who find minon memes uniornically funny.

They are super cringe but they accurately depict the current state of Sony studios. Full of 20 some young adults with blue hair Twitter junkies. This is what happens when there is burnout and most of the adults in their mid 30s and 40s leave the industry.

No one in their right mind would take their beloved creation and use it in meme gifs themselves. Imagine Spielberg creating memes featuring characters from Schilnders list and saving private Ryan. Tlou especially aims to be this adult, grounded and serious story and they had Joel depicting Jack from the shining while Abby’s father cowered like Shelly duvall. Ellie in hospital gown is triggering to everyone who played the first game and they turned it into a euphoria meme. Absolutely hilarious and exactly what we needed to turn everything into a marvel esque meme.

But hey its their ip, they get to do what they wish with their characters. All i know is that it isn’t as cool or funny as these gen z infested studios think they are.

The opposite, 20smth blue hairs aren't posting gifs of decade old memes, they are on tik tok or watching streamers. This is more so humor from a 35-40 year old who was 20smth in 2012 trying to recreate that era...which is fine if its organic, but when a cooperation leads a push to be funny it never works out. Xbox fails at it often too with their "lets be relatable" twitter post.
