Hogwarts Legacy |OT| The Prisoners of AskforBan

Upgrading all herbology skills and gear really is OP. Holy crap. Drop two cock-diesel cabbages at once, then a tentacula, warp off and hide, and they will wipe out a room - event he boss as well sometimes.
I'm honestly disappointed that they gave us all these fun spells and abilities that can hit single targets (and later on some can be upgraded to have small AoE effects), but every big fight in the game consists of you being locked into an arena with a horde of enemies around you. All of your effective crowd control is the plants essentially, so you throw your plants out and they get busy eating your enemies for you which isn't exactly fun when you most likely want to be using magic to murder your opponents.

I could also complain about the absolutely terrible targeting system which also makes magic not fun compared to letting the plants do it. It drops your target the moment it moves off screen, it constantly switches targets on you even when locked on and trying to combo juggle somebody, it has no proximity priority and never targets the enemy standing directly in front of you trying to chew your face off, and for fuck's sakes when you Protego and Stupefy why the fuck does it reflect the Stupefy onto the target you're locked onto instead of the caster? Simply being able to Stupefy reflect onto the enemy behind you off the screen and make them stop for 2 seconds would go a long way towards letting you enjoy magic instead of relying on plants or becoming a stereotypical Souls dodge roller for the whole fight.

For you guys talking flight controls, I agree with the poster I saw yesterday saying Ace Combat controls.

For those of you who never played AC, they have a Novice control set (though AC7 made it more complicated), where all you do is brake with LT, accelerate with RT, move with LS. Face buttons are to shoot guns and missiles. That's it. It's the equivalent of playing Afterburner. Easy.

I can understand any game making controls complex if it's a hardcore PC sim, but 99% of games involving driving or flying arent. So make it easy.

It's like COD gamepad layout. Tried and true and makes sense. Why shooters over the years try to mess around with their own layout makes no sense. Just copy COD s much as possible as the base layout, and mess around with the dpad for that game's different stuff.

You went the wrong way, if you are talking about the jackdaw quest. I did the same on my first playthrough. He stops and moves aside to stands in front of the path to the spiders. You are supposed to continue on the path he moves aside to let you through. On my second character I noticed this.
Well. Shit. I did not notice that.

I love the seasonal changes around the world and inside the castle, it’s such a nice touch.
I haven't seen any changes yet but I'm taking my god damn sweet time with this game lol. I only just unlocked the Room of Requirement.

If we get to spend Christmas at Hogwarts I will be so happy. Ever since I first read the books 20+ years ago I've been fascinated by christmas time at Hogwarts. I always try read the books every year at Christmas. I find it so cozy and relaxing.

It changes as you progress through the main story. To emulate completing your annual lessons. There are some seasonal side quests, and the season is locked at summer once you complete the main story, so make sure you get everything,

Hm, this is odd. I never seen any main quest with requirements higher than my current level. They were actually significantly lower. I had only one quest that was above my level, which was a side quest with level 30 with a boss fight

I would also say that this game is quite far from Ubisoft bloat. It much more values exploration and quests over checklists. The only thing I felt that overstayed its welcome were Merlin trials which felt way too repetitive, at least for me
It's the Jack Sparrow quest you get right after you learn Expelliamus. I was level 10 and everyone was level 20. Am level 16 now after finishing all the side quests i had started but never finished but now i have to find other quests in hogwarts to do before i can hit level 20.

I love the hogwarts quests and secrets. Its definitely a lot more organic than ubisoft and sony open world bloat. However, the open world itself is basically your generic copy paste missions of go there and destroy the camp. Most of the side missions start off by you talking to a random NPC, hearing their sob story no one cares about and then finding something or killing something for them.

And the problem is that once it does get back to the story, it lacks the production values of a Sony first party title. It's competently directed and told, but nothing truly special. I only say that because the first couple of hours were magical and I was like this is going to be my GOTY but ever since then its been mostly great which is fine, but not GOTY material.

My main gripe with this game is it needs to be 4 times longer.

Anyone else finish it then just start again straight away, even after 100%, or am I just obsessed? 🤣🤣
Before I played it I thought the playtime was reasonable but now I'm playing it I wish it was longer. I'm still not anywhere near done but still I don't want this to end. The wait for DLC/expansion or a sequel is going to kill me :(

I've got DS5 haptic vibrations working on PC. It's really good. You need to play with the controller wired and you need to turn off any type of DS4Windows and you also need to turn off Playstation Configuration Support in Steam Big Picture mode and make sure the Enable Steam Input is set under the the game (right click on the game, properties > CONTROLLER).

If problems persist you can delete this file and relaunch the game. ...\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\pc_info.json
Dunno if I'm doing something wrong.

I've deleted the json file as well as enabled Steam input for the game:

Is this where you disable the PlayStation Controller support (Steam -> Settings -> Controller -> General Controller Settings):

Controller is plugged in using USB rather than Bluetooth. Controller Rumble is enabled in game. I get nothing. I get nothing on my Elite Series II either though. Neither do a few of my mates. (The above shot shows No Controller, but it does recognise it and works as a PS5 controller in game. Just no feedback.

Weirdest thing about this whole game, and its a game so I get it but, I get stopped in the halls by some asshole Slytherine who wants to bully me like I didn't just end the lives of several humans and goblins before breakfast. Like I'm not a 16 year old whos killed more men than dragon pox.

Eh? I've never had students really interacting with my character outside of sidequest givers.

I’m not quite there yet so I’m not sure, I’m in the autumn season and its looks great. But I hope so, too! Harry Potter movies and books are best watched and read around the Christmas season imo. One thing I do know is that there is no way to change the seasons after the story is done, hopefully it’s something they include in a future patch.

Only 6 hours in but feel like I might need to crank up the difficulty as it feels a bit too easy. Loving it so far though.

Although I've been enjoying playing the game I've got to say that I find this world kind of just generic fantasy. I still think the world looks pretty at times but at the same time it looks boring. I was honestly hoping for a bit more wow factor in the environments and just the daily lives of the wizards. Mostly you just have have magical pictures and ghosts.

Finally got to level 20 and tried that spider boss and got whooped again. I think I'll try again at level 25 since I was able to defeat that level 25 troll at around level 17. The targeting still sucks but I've continued the story a bit more and as a result now have 2 of those red spells which makes finishing fights a lot quicker. I know it's weird that I only have 2 red spells but I've been attacking side quests and camps while also exploring all over.

I think games are too long nowadays. I hate that some years ago people kept complaining about how short games were, when actually they were just perfect. Now every game is way too long, in my opinion. This one too.

I've been playing for like twenty hours and I must say that going around Hogwarts and its surroundings is satisfying... I'm not calling it a masterpiece but for now it seems really successful.

Yeah, I wish they would make a lot more shorter big budget games( I think gamepass would be great for this) but then folks would feel like they aren't getting their money's worth if it isn't long game. Since I haven't beaten the game I can't really comment on the length of the game. I will say that although I'm enjoying the padding/sidequests of the game outside of hogwarts it does seem to weaken the game.

I get you. I felt that way about Valhalla, Forbidden West, Ghost of Tsushima, I didnt complete any of them.

Elden ring, rdr2, death stranding and Hogwarts though, just never wanted them to end 🤣

My wife hasn't really played video games since she was a kid outside of mobile, and she had a blast starting up a character last night.

She's a huge HP fan and this was like watching a kid go to Disneyland for the first time. She was interacting with all of the random stuff in Hogwarts and shooting basic spells at everything. The hardest part for her was really getting to know the controls but she made it through the first side quest duel with no issues (aside from not getting a handle on controlling the camera).

Great stuff WB 🙌

For me it made a difference which which USB port and version I was using. First I tried to run it through a USB hub but got nothing. But now I run it directly from the back of my PC and the motherboard manual says my port is a USB 3.2, Gen 1, Type-A". I don't know how much this makes a difference but I had to relaunch and replug the controller, turn on and off the steam settings and delete the json file until I got it working. I'm not 100% sure of a sure fire way.

loving the game, but, yeah, the combat could definitely use a bit of 'refining'...

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Yo this lock picking minigame is obtuse as all fuck and I'm glad the game has an option to auto solve it, because this is terrible.

The Fallout lockpicking game is the gold standard, no wonder every other game copies it. I didn't like this one at all.
But it is super simple, you rotate one stick until the mechanism start rotating then you press all the way throught to lock it in place and then repeat with the other one, i solve this thing in less than 5 sec, you don't have to do both at the same time.

The only "difficult" part is to lock the mechanism when the things start rotating but like i said, you just have to push the stick to the end of its run and put some force on it so it doesn't move.

Watched 20 minutes, looks to me like it's AC / Witcher 3 in almost everything: mechanics, collect-a-thon quests, fights. I even think the fucking deer runs the same as the one in Witcher 3.
Solid 8/10, gonna pass.
Yeah the game is a solid 7,5.
An 8 if you love harry potter more than your mom.

They really have a huge potential for a more refined sequel.

Is there even a way to solve the lockpicking minigame other than the controller vibration? That's the only way I've done it, and it didn't seem interesting enough to worry about otherwise.

Having played both, this plays nothing like The Witcher 3. Dont know about AC, I dont touch that shit.

When you rotate, you will see the gears turn. A light will also appear (green or red). When that light appears, you have it "solved". Just make both lights appear with both sticks.

You rotate the stick slowly and watch if the mechanism start moving, if it does, then push the stick all the way throught its run and keep it in that position with a bit of force and then start with the other mechanism.

left stick is the green light mechanism, right stick is the red one, i literally never used the vibration to solve this thing, just the visual hint.

As someone who never followed Harry Potter, the lore of this game drives me crazy. This is on Earth!?

Normal people are oblivious to magic? There is a huge ass school and towns with everyone doing magic, flying on broomstick, etc. No one ever noticed?

There are dozens of different animal and plant species. No one knows these exist either?

And these people clearly have the power to solve much of the world's problems, but no one does because of "rules"?

Also, these kids go to school full time here starting at 11. They go to potions class, dark arts, etc, etc. When do they learn math, reading, etc? None of that matters? Are there no laws requiring this?

Basically, nothing makes sense. And I'm having a very difficult time buying into the story, because everything I see raises ten more questions on how this could be remotely possible. Why is this franchise so popular?

All that said, this is still a quality game and I'm having fun. But, you won't see me rushing out to read the books or watch the movies.
